HNC Library – We are much more than just a room full of books.
What’s on @ HNC Library What’s been and gone February Events: Love Your Libraries Week Weeklong events build up to National Libraries Day on Saturday 8th February. We held a Writing Competition which was won by Tia Hanley for Poetry and Sarah Jordan for Flash Fiction Short Story. We also created a Love Line using heart shaped notes which students and staff filled with why or what they love about libraries.
What’s to come… March Events: Just see the front page for all the events we have planned! But we are also hosting a Logo Design Competition! To mark the arrival of the revolutionary EBSCO Discovery Online service we would like students to design a new logo for it. Your logo could be used on the main portal website, search boxes and app site of Discovery Online. So if you can design one better than the one shown on the front page please email it as JPEG to Rebecca Wilson by Friday 7th March! Or email her for any other details or design spec. Make it creative & bold & memorable!

Our World Book Day Charity is Book Aid International. They raise money to send books to Sub-Saharan libraries in schools, colleges and communities. This is a major boost to the people who use and need such services as a single book can cost on average a month’s wages if not more. Making new books and learning materials often out of reach for many. The charity also creates and sends out a School Library Box to remote villages where they do not have a building for a library. This often gives children and youths as well as adults access to brand new books for the first time. For every £2 we raise they can send out 1 book. We raised just over £52 pounds last year through a cake and book stall and donating all library fines. Help us raise even more in 2014! All week from Monday 3rd to Friday 7th anyone who pays a library fine will have it turned into a donation towards Book Aid International. As well as being open to welcome intentional donations we are going to be hosting a book sale again this year. Where paperbacks will be 50p and hardbacks a £1 so come and grab a bargain. And a new event this year is a Book Tree with special leaves available for 10p each for you to share your favourite book and hang amongst its branches.
