The call me Ldash, raised in Chesapeake, VA I just recently dropped my first official mixtape ‘’Breath of fresh air” on Datpiff.com, I chose to name it that to signify the feeling you get when your searching long and far for something worth listening to and you stumble upon something majestic, The hiphop scene has been starved and deprived of creativity and originality. Which is exactly what you can expect from my LP. Also, uptempo original production by Majik, cleverness, hungry delivery, modern day issues, staying true to myself with a lil bragging and boasting sprinkled on top. If i had a chance to work with someone currently in the industry it would be Kendrick Lamar, Sir Michael Rocks, Chuck Inglish, J.cole, Big Sean, thats whos currently in the deck right now, I respect them for being up&comers in the game, defying the odds as I am. Right now I keep my ear to the streets with one major blogsite Worldstarhiphop.com, also, Datpiff. com, XXL & Source magazine. Im not satisfied with the state of my career nor me as an artist. Im still growing, trying new things, breaking boundaries, and manifesting greatness. Be on the lookout for my sophmore LP ‘’TheMonaLisaProject’’ coming soon.

STAR CANDIE DIMEPIECE

Tell us about where your from and what company you represent? I’m originally from the Bronx, NY How would you describe your style of music in ONE word? Passionate Are you working on any new albums or mixtapes currently? Any Features? I just started working on my mixtape called “I don’t wanna be Famous”. I called on a few friends who i respected that i knew would add their unique vibe to the project. Spade, June, and Scotch Davis. I’m still tryna holla at Fred the godSon to collab on a joint with me. I met him through my boy Remo the Hitmaker at a studio in the bronx so im hopin we can make that happen. How did you come up with the Title of your Album? What does it stand for? It came to me one day walking through time square. I wasn’t rushing to come up with a title. My plan was to wait until i finished the project but when it came to me that day it stuck with me. To answer your question, the more i began to focus on songwriting, the less i wanted to be famous. I think being famous makes you loose some of yourself because its almost like you become public property. And they say you signed up for it. It’s the sacrifice you gotta make. I wanna be successful, my music can have the fame. Building a strong fan base and staying connected to your fans is essential in the music business. How do you plan to stay on top of your game? Giving my fans the best that i got every single time. I ain’t never been a half stepper. If im not gonna do it great im not gonna do it at all. Besides being a certified musician, what other paths could you picture your self taking? Perhaps Acting, Modeling or Owning your own business? Acting is a craft that i wanna work on and take more seriously in the future. I love the idea of becoming another person and telling their story. Looking back on your career and how everything played out, do you honestly have any regrets? Or things you would have done totally different? yeah. I have a few regrets. But my mother always use to say “you live and you learn”. So i don’t really look at it as regrets. I look at it as valuable lessons. I get it. I didn’t get it before, but i get it now. Who inspired you when you were younger to pursue your goals? My grandfather and my mother for the most part. Reflecting back on your pass, what would say was the highlight of your career? 20. So far, probably working with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Those guys are innovators. I got alotta respect for them Are you satisfied with your career thus far? Are you completely happy now as an artist? I’m feeling good about where i am creatively. I’m feeling good about my team. I have friends and family and people that supports me. 6 HHS101 ISSUE 4

2PACALYPSE NOW “The tragedy of Tupac is that his untimely passing is representative of too many young black men in this country . . . If we had lost Oprah Winfrey at twenty-five, we would have lost a relatively unknown, local market TV anchorwoman. If we had lost Malcolm X at twenty-five, we would have lost a hustler named Detroit Red. If Martin Luther King died at twenty-five he would’ve been known as a local Baptist preacher. And if I had left the world at twenty-five, we would have lost a big-band trumpet player and aspiring composer—just a sliver of my eventual life potential.” -Quincy Jones Quincy Jones penned those famous words as part of the foreword in the commemorative book Vibe Magazine issued in the fall of 1998 celebrating the life and legacy of slain rapper and actor Tupac Shakur. As Mr. Jones astutely opined, an “untimely” death robbed legions of adoring fans, ardent critics and casual onlookers alike from the opportunity to observe how the rose that grew from concrete would ultimately bloom. We will never learn what Tupac would have become were he still with us. Nevertheless, one thing is certain, nearly fifteen years since his death, Tupac Amaru Shakur remains a cultural icon. His life and professional career are well documented. Born in the East Harlem section of Manhattan one month after his mother’s acquittal on more than 150 charges of “conspiracy against the United States government and New York landmarks” in the New York Panther Party 21 case, it would seem Tupac was destined to live the life of a revolutionary artist. His mother named him after José Gabriel Túpac Amaru II, one of the leaders of the indigenous Peruvian people’s uprising against the Spanish in 1780. As an adolescent, he displayed his considerable artistic gifts as he bounced from Harlem to Baltimore to Marin City California. It was in Marin City where his immense gifts led to a chance meeting with Atron Gregory, who later set Tupac up as a roadie and backup dancer for Digital Underground in 1990. With an outstanding verse in Digital Underground’s Same Song, a tune that appeared on the soundtrack to the 1991 film Nothing But Trouble, Tupac emerged as a rising star in urban music. He subsequently released his debut studio album, 2Pacalypse Now, in November of that year. The album ignited fiery debates about the propriety of its release (Dan Quayle once famously quipped, “There’s no reason for a record like this to be released. It has no place in our society.”) and received Gold certification from RIAA. In that same year, he appeared in Juice, to critical acclaim, as the combustible character Bishop. He followed the success of 2Pacalypse Now and his appearance in Juice with his platinum sophomore album, entitled Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z, in addition to a critically acclaimed acting performance in the film Above the Rim and a smattering of television appearances. Afterwards, he continued releasing material that garnered critical acclaim and commercial success, beginning with his seminal work, Me Against the World (widely heralded as a hip-hop classic and RIAA certified as 2x platinum). Tupac followed Me Against the World with All Eyez on Me (also regarded as a hip-hop classic and RIAA certified as 9x platinum). In short, Tupac transcended hip-hop and dominated the culture with his five short years in the spotlight. He sold tens of millions of records, topped Billboard charts, appeared in major motion pictures, sparked numerous national debates on censorship and was a central figure in the legendary inter-coastal hip-hop rivalry.

On a cool evening in September in 1996 it all came to an abrupt end when an unknown gunman fired a barrage of bullets into the car he rode in on the way to a Las Vegas nightclub. In the first several years after his death, the public was inundated with Tupac: nine posthumous albums, three posthumous film appearances, fourteen documentaries covering his career and legacy, et cetera. Nevertheless, in recent months, it is as though Tupac is more alive today than ever. Around this time last year, the Library of Congress added Tupac’s highly revered single Dear Mama to the National Recording Registry, calling the song “a moving and eloquent homage to both the murdered rapper’s own mother and all mothers struggling to maintain a family in the face of addiction, poverty and societal indifference.” President Obama made a passing reference to Tupac at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner in April. In May emerging rapper Meek Mill released his enormously popular single, Tupac Back feat. Rick Ross (the song subsequently spawned a slew of uninspiring remixes). Last month, Dexter Isaac confessed to participating in the November 1994 shooting of Tupac. This summer, Tupac’s fortieth birthday celebration seemed more elaborate and more publicized than prior celebrations. Such is a testament to his lasting impact, and while also begging the question, “Is Tupac back?” In a word, “No.” Regardless of the number of radio spins and digital downloads Meek Mill’s Tupac Back might accomplish, none of them will prove sufficient to warrant apt comparisons between Tupac and Meek Mill. If anything, the song serves as a vivid reminder of the stark difference between the two and all other rappers who have emerged after Tupac’s death. There is yet another reason the answer is no, and that is because it is as though Tupac never left us (all conspiracy theories aside). Tupac embodied what hip-hop purports to be. Hip-hop, when done right, is merely a microcosm of a larger cultural, economic, historical, political, spiritual struggle of African Americans in their quest for developing an identity in American society initially, and now other cultures across the world who have subsequently become impacted by that expression. At its core, hip-hop is a distinct expression of the people. Tupac’s catalog encapsulated that expression. As scholar Michael Eric Dyson stated, “[Tupac] spoke with brilliance and insight as someone who bears witness to the pain of those who would never have his platform.” His work captured the joys, struggles, desperation and triumph of African Americans wrestling with an inherently unequal access to this nation’s most precious promises. It also captured the violence, bigotry, misogyny, lasciviousness and covetousness that have plagued our society. As Quincy Jones noted in his foreword, Tupac was a man “cloaked in contradictions.” Indeed he was; the same man who wrote Keep Ya Head Up wrote I Get Around, the same man behind Brenda’s Got a Baby thrust How Do You Want It upon the world. Perhaps Tupac’s greatest strength doubled as his greatest weakness, his unflinching ability to speak his mind. This innate quality allowed for him to speak his mind, regardless of whom such thoughts might offend. He simply had little regard for the consequences of his words. Tupac seemingly feared the wrath his conscience would inflict upon him for keeping silent more than he feared the backlash of any person. That desire to tell the truth of what lay in his heart, even when it revealed unseemly desires simultaneously captivated fans and incensed his critics. It also still fascinates us today, as is evidenced by his continued relevance in the culture. If Tupac is truly back, perhaps his reemergence will show us of who we truly are and remind us the perilous path where many of our inordinate affections lead. ON THE RISE Glovez

Are you working on any new albums or mixtapes currently? Any Features? Currently, I’m working on my new mixtape (Corporate Grind – You’re Fired Mixtape Vol. 1) I’m pretty excited with this mixtape. This mixtape is going to be a series of mixtapes that I am dropping to build my buzz. In addition to dropping the mixtape, I’m dropping a video with every song on the mixtape. Since we are living in a digital world that is so visual and it’s so important to drop at least a minimum of 6 music videos for a mixtape or album. In regards to features, as of now I am not going to have any features for the first part of this series and the reason for that is because I want to showcase my ability on the mic. Building a strong fan base and staying connected to your fans is essential in the music business. How do you plan to stay on top of your game? Besides from putting out new music, now a days it’s very important to have video content. With that said, I am constantly dropping a music video every month. This way besides from telling people my story through words I am also able to create a video to show my vision behind the lyrics. Plus, since I started my YouTube account in February 2011, I already have 60,000+ video views on my music videos. Hip Hop has changed so much over the last past years, how do you feel about the current state of the culture? To be honest I think it’s a breath of fresh air. To me, the reason I love hip-hop so much is because it is constantly changing. It’s never the same repetitive thing. Plus, as an artist, it allows you to be more creative and take more risks in the music. I think people that don’t like change in hip-hop are the artist that don’t want to change as they feel comfortable where they are at in their creative space and they don’t want to take risk as they are afraid to fail. But to me those are the artists that don’t really shine. If you had a chance to who would you like to work with in the industry right now? Besides from wishing to work with 50, Nas, Eminem, or Jay, I would definitely love the opportunity to work with either Mac Miller or Tech N9ne. As of right now these are my two favorite unrated artists in the game and I would feel honored if I could get in the booth with these dudes. What advice can you give to younger artists like yourself on the come-up? I would say you need to live by 3 quotes. 1. “If you treat this like a hobby it will pay you like a hobby, but if you treat this like a business it will pay you like a business.” This quote comes from May Kay who took a home made business and turned it into a billion dollar company. 2. “You need to spend your money wisely to make money.” I took the original quote and modified it. As an upcoming artist you need to be willing to invest in yourself. If you’re not willing to put your own money behind your raps then why would a record company want to do it? Look at every dollar you put behind your raps as an investment, and I’m not talking about putting money into studio time, or a video. I’m talking about putting some of your money into marketing and advertising your product. Because at the end of the day everybody and their mother raps. If you don’t put the money behind yourself marketing and advertising your product, nobody is going to know about you; I promise you that! 3. “Be true to yourself in your raps.” If you’re rapping about gats and packs and being a hardcore gangster you better be willing to back that up. But if you’re just a regular dude or chick that has a hot 16, then don’t rap about shit you are not doing because at the end of the day it will come bite you in your ass.

Two of my Favorite Indie artist is my homies!! Dese who you will hear more from and have dropped two tapes with him and you can search for on datpiff.com. The other is Jag, yall will not get enough of US!!! We have already dropped Classics and you will NEVER hear a wack Jag track, he is going to be in that Top Artist category real soon, got my word on that!! Lastly one of my favorite artist Grafh, he is one of dopest spitters ever and I know he bout to really blow, like ASAP and he has always supported me and really helped set off my career. 6.If you had a chance to work with another artist who would it be right now? JOELL ORTIZ and BUSTA RHYMES 7.Who are some of the DJs that you respect and admire for your reasons? Most of all admire Dj Clue and Kay Slay. I always strive to one day be in Dj Clue category, if you ask me to describe him, is simply being ear to the streets and the outlet for putting up people on dopest artist in the game!! Just think about many of the artist like Fabolous and Joe Budden, They were introduced by Dj Clue and look at them now. Also djs like Dj Age, me and him are both Jazzy Djs and he is grinder and supporter of me and anyone who is on his team!! 8.Besides being a certified DJ, what other paths could you picture your self taking? Perhaps Acting, Modeling or Owning your own business? I would’nt mind doing some acting!! If the opportunity ever arise’s, def something I wanna chance at. Id also looove to one day get a branch off in a major label, similiar to how Def Jam gave Dj Khaled his own section. Id like Def Jam or another major to give me a West Coast section or something, just a section period where I can give major deals to artist I feel are being slept on and need to be heard!! 9.Who do you get most of your music from? Any exclusive connect? Most of music I get directly from the Artist or from the artist label. Also get alot of music from Dj Crews im in and from the Djs in the crew. They will blast out exclusives.

10.Do you charge Indie artist for placements on your mixtapes/albums? Not always...this is my 9 to 5, so ofcourse I charge for placements on mixtapes and doing complete projects. But they end up getting hosting/placement on sites/promo/exposure, so got pretty good packages I offer, but when I see an artist is serious and does pay for placements or complete mixtapes, when I have open slots I need to fill in I may hit em up and tell them to send me new music to show love and place for free just because I know they are serious about the music they produce. 11.How do you keep track of what’s going on in the music industry today? Any favorite Websites, Blog Sites, Magazines, Promotional outlets you use that helps keep your air tuned to the streets? Ofcourse you guys!! Websites such as Datpiff.com , Westcoastrydaz.com, WeTheWest.com, WorldStarHipHop.com, Dubcnn.com, Mixxmobb.com and Vladtv.com and a few other sites. 12.Hip Hop has changed so much over the last past years, how do you feel about the current state of the culture? Web I think its wonderful!! I wish as far as album sales go that it could have an increase and back to the days fans go into stores and purchase artist music simply because they are fans of them. Other than that, I think its interesting. So many talented artist and upcoming artist with promise and they are just beggining there career, so we are instore for lots of Classics. The web is gold mine and key to any artist or djs success in todays world and I love it!! 13.Reflecting back on your past, what would say was the highlight of your career as a DJ? I have a few, from being at Treacherous Records and experiencing K Young doing a hook for a song on my album by freestyling it. Being in studio with Jag and being part of him preparing to become one of hip hops Greats. On stage doing a big show with Lil Flip and hearing him call my name on the mic to being in studio with Flip and Cory Gunz as they record track together. Going to studio with one of West Coast soon to be Legends and Greats Slim The Mobster and witness him making classics and working on Detox and being one of first to hearing tracks with him and Dre, just great!!! My favorite has to be, being at Aftermath/Interscope studio while Just Blaze in one room producing while Slim The Mobster is recording a Classic in another and being able to say I been there. 14.Are you satisfied with your career thus far? Are you completely happy now as an DJ? I dont think ill ever be satisfied and completely happy. I dont think I ever want to be satisfied or completely happy because that is day you become lazy, less productive and possess less drive. I always wanna stay hungry, unsatisfied and looking for new ways to improve and build upon accomplishments. 15.What advice can you give to younger DJs on the come up? Work hard!! If it is something you love, treat it like first four to six years you are in College and each quarter you are graded on work you have completed. Not something you can just do for fun when your bored cause if you dont put the time and effort into it, you may not get the results you anticipate. You get out of it what you put in to it!! www.djfar.com www.twitter.com/djfar www.djfarblogspot.com www.myspace.com/virgofar djfarbiz@gmail.com for booking/contact information

We represent TrulyMusic.Ent/1287prod.(Flight Jacket Apphilliates). We reside in Virginia where grindin is a must!Where haters fuel your determination and passion, and the ladies are always a site to see.We stay focused and never let negativity stop our hustle, this is our life and our gift, and we’ve made it this far so the next step is to takeova worldwide. Are you working on any new albums or mixtapes currently? Any Features? Are you more interested in obtaining a major label deal or being Independent? Both to be honest,if the right oppurtunity comes along and we’re still grindin independently i would take the offer.but if the independent grind pays off (and it will) we will continue to dominate the competition either way. Choosen your business & artist associates in this game is very key, how do you decide what artists you work with? Is there a determining factor for you? We tend to look for the artist within in a artist, what sets this person apart from that one?,how is they’re delivery?,what can this artist do for us?.We want the elite, not the ones that dont put everything into they’re music and dont want to succeed. Anything else you want to share with the people that we missed? Just know TrulyMusic.Ent/1287prod.(Flight Jacket Apphilliates) are Headed Your Way!We’re gonna heat up the summer this year.Go check out the new mixtape Coffin Muzik:The Takeova vol 2. and be on the lookout for the official release off TME.Ent “F.J.A” Flight Jacket Apphilliates” Flight Muzik” due out later this fall.shout out to VA, shout out to D.C.
