Hamilton Park Residence

Hamilton Park Residence The Prudential Center plays a crucial role in the revitalization of downtown Newark, converting the city’s core into a vibrant entertainment district. The master plan’s objective was to bridge the two anchor points of the Prudential Center and Newark Penn Station together. The building’s terracing shape helps frame the Prudential Center‘s iconic LED display for the crowds of visitors coming from Penn station. Hamilton Park integrates multiple commercial uses at its base and provides 240 units of housing above.

Roof Plan Hamilton Park’s ground floor contains retail stores encompassing a large plaza creating a vibrant environment. The stepping terraces are connected creating one continuous green space, which leads to the restaurant overlooking Newark. Due to the nature of the terracing shape unobstructed views of the courtyard and surrounding Newark are created. Each floor is directly connected to the high rise park giving residents direct access to a park in an urban setting.

The Hamilton Street School is located in the Ironbound section of Newark, New Jersey and a few minutes away from Newark Penn Station. The school was designed to serve as a community center when not in use by students. A plaza on the south side of the site provides much needed space for community events. The playground on the site gives local residents a convenient location for their children to play, since the nearest park is over a mile away.

As students proceed through the education system their journey begins with somewhat sheltered surroundings. The trees that outline the playground shelter students from the surrounding cityscape creating an isolated learning experience. Visual connection to the city and access to the school’s resources increase as they continue through their education.

Twlight Lake

The site was originally the final stop of the North Jersey Coast Line between New York Penn Station and Bay Head, New Jersey, in 1881. The town has since relocated the station to the outskirts of the town. Reinventing the old train line into a park with a recreational dock connects the site to Twilight lake which lies just north. On the southern end of the site, the creation of wetlands help reduce the damage that annual storms may bring.

26

27

Squan Island The goal of the building was to bridge the entry points of the site together into one linear scheme. By having three distinct programs functioning in one building the program is broken up into three “barges docked into a greater building mass. Each barge becomes a solitary working environment but still remains connected to the other programmatic space. Within the building the town of bay head is put on display where the public and government officials have easy access to the views.
