CONCERTS YOUNG VIOLINISTS June 7th at 12:00 Johan Dalene, violin Maya Buchanan, violin Young Artist-in-Residence Johan Dalene from Sweden and special guest Maya Buchanan from Chicago offer an interesting program of music for violin and piano. These gifted 17 year olds have won prizes in many competitions and will be participants in this year’s Academy. The program will include sonata movements by Brahms and Beethoven and virtuoso works by Paganini, Waxman and Wieniawski. The concert ends with Sarasate’s well-known duo Navarra. They are joined on the stage by pianists Anna Guðný Guðmundsdóttir and Richard Simm.
OPENING CONCERT June 7th at 20:00 Indiana University Violin Professor Sibbi Bernharðs son of the Pacifica String Quartet teaches an intensive string quartet seminar from June 1st – 7th. In this unique course, twenty students learn how to navigate the wonders of string quartet playing, considered the most difficult of all chamber ensembles.
