Founders' Letter. During such unprecedented times, we look upon our firm, and our community, with an immense sense of pride. With our collective diversity and expertise, we will remain steadfast and persevere through the turbulent times ahead. We cannot know what lies in store for us in the long term, but in the short term we must adapt and be grateful for our past successes. Hilton & Hyland has, thankfully, remained fully intact. In fact we have grown, as we welcomed top associates Marc Noah, Kyle Dordick, Lisa Optican, Michael LaMontagna, and Alexandra Allen to our firm this past spring. With Angelenos abiding by social distancing standards and staying safer at home, the demand for quality properties has understandably risen. Our single office alone closed 31 sales priced $10 Million and above within the first half of the year. All of this has been made possible by not only maintaining an elite roster of the highest caliber agents in the world, but by continuing to set the standard for luxury real estate marketing and branding. As we continue to remain disciplined and determined in our fight against this novel threat to our city, we hope you will join us as we take a look back at the first half of this eventful year.

A Digital World: Marketing Real Estate in 2020 Despite the numerous challenges Los Angeles currently faces amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a weak housing market is not one of them. S TO R Y BY A N D R E W L E DW E D G E

While the luxury market did see a brief slow down at the beginning of Q2 due to the citywide lockdown, stock market crash and uncertainty regarding federal economic policy, June saw it roaring back to life as many locals and transplants looked to relocate. Hilton & Hyland alone represented 31 sales priced $10 Million and above by the quarter’s end. “If buyers in the high-end market are looking at a good price for a property — combined with a good loan — that’s a deal. There are definitely some more big sales coming.” said agent David Kramer in a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times.

“We’ve seen a major increase in our online traffic whether that’s social media, direct search or e-mail marketing.” In the past five months since the March lockdowns, Hilton & Hyland has seen an over 100% increase in impressions and views on video content compared to the previous period. Upscale video productions and interactive 3D floor plans offer buyers the best alternative to an in-person showing. Leyson says “Our main objective is to always stay flexible and continue to adapt to audience behaviors to best serve our clients.”

With new market conditions came new marketing strategies. With temporary halts on printed materials and publications due to lockdowns, contact tracing and staggered reopening schedules, agents and brokerages were forced to adopt new ways to reach potential clients and interact with existing ones.

On social media alone, Hilton & Hyland saw a whopping combined 346% increase in engagement on Facebook and Instagram, which helped contribute to a robust 65% increase in web traffic. According to CNBC, as of May 29th, Zillow had already seen a 40% increase in searches on its own platform.

“I’m very proud and grateful that our team at Hilton & Hyland has remained intact as we continue to work remotely,” said marketing director Ed Leyson.

This major increase in digital response indicates that while potential buyers may be going out less, they are still house hunting with keen interest.

Known for its breathtaking beaches, popular surf spots and world class restaurants, the charming town is known as the “hidden port.” Eight miles from the town’s center is one of the few gated communities in the state, Costa Cumaná, a tropical paradise developed two decades ago by Juan Sodi and a number of investors from Mexico City. “Puerto Escondido has been a sleepy surf mecca for decades”, said Linne Radmin, owner of Casa de los Sueños in the private Costa Cumaná community, adding, “Puerto might become the next Tulum.” Having designed and built the property 10 years ago, people won’t be able to find any talavera in the home, “which sets it apart from typical Mexican architecture,” Radmin said. With white sand, incredibly private beaches and a separate casita for staff, Casa de los Sueños is an Eden of its own.

Since 1996, Food on Foot is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing the poor and homeless of Los Angeles with nutritious meals, clothing, job opportunities, and assistance in the transition to employment and life off the streets. Food on Foot is the last resort for many of the individuals who come to them. They work with men and women whose deep emotional problems have led to lives of homelessness, substance abuse, incarceration, and an utter lack of belief in themselves. Unimpeded by traditional funding models, Food on Foot invests the tremendous amount of time needed to build our workers’ confidence and help them overcome their fear of success – at the same time building partnerships with potential employers who will give our graduates the opportunities they need.

For 33 years the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House has provided families with a safe and supportive place to stay while their child undergoes treatment for critical illness or injuries at local hospitals. To date, more than 30,000 families have stayed at the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House during their time of need. The House strives to provide families of sick children with safe, welcoming lodging near their hospitalized child, insure that children have the support of their family members during their difficult medical treatment, and provide families with stress-reduction activities to help them avoid sibling and parental isolation, and loss of financial security.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) strives to eliminate substandard housing through advocacy, education and partnership with families and individuals in need to build decent, sustainable and affordable housing. Since 1990, Habitat LA has built and repaired more than 1,000 homes locally and worldwide, transforming the lives of hundreds of individuals. Habitat LA is a GuideStar® Valued Partner and has achieved the coveted Charity Navigator 4-Star rating awarded to nonprofits for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency.

As one of the most effective grassroots nonprofit agencies in the nation, Project Angel Food cooks and delivers over 500,000 nutritious meals each year, free of charge, to the homes of men, women, and children affected by life-threatening illnesses. Our vital food and nutrition services, including medically tailored meals and nutritional counseling, help under-served people throughout LA County who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves. Created in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, we expanded our mission in 2004 to help our neighbors who are struggling with any life-threatening illness burdened by hunger and malnutrition. We deliver more than 10,000 meals every week to people in need…for Life, for Love, for as long as it takes. 56

The Village Family Services is Southern California’s leading bilingual family wellness agency providing a comprehensive range of services to achieve permanency and safety for neglected and abused children and youth. Our approach centers on family wellness amid client-centered, strength-focused, trauma-informed, evidence-based and culturally competent care delivered by a compassionate, bilingual staff. The Village Family Services envisions a day where all children and youth are free of social, emotional, verbal and physical harm.

For over 60 years, the Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club has accomplished its goals of opening doors and transforming lives by providing a safe place where young people can be themselves, be proud, and experience opportunities never thought possible. Through programs that expand horizons, the Club challenges youth to experience the world outside their doorsteps and gives them the tools to succeed.

Celebrating 60 years, Young Musicians Foundation (YMF) exists to unify communities through exceptional classical music experiences for youth. YMF offers programming that serves children of Southern California regardless of socio-economic or ethnic background. We provide performance opportunities through our Debut Orchestra and Chamber Music Series; scholarships for instrumental instruction; and music education for students ages four through 17. Involvement in the arts contributes to literacy with a focus on common core, self-esteem, and social and emotional skills.

Founded in 2001 and comprised solely of volunteers, the Friends of Greystone is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to raise funds to restore, preserve and protect Doheny Greystone Estate, owned by the City of Beverly Hills and considered to be among California’s most luxurious residences south of Hearst Castle. Included in our goals is to provide educational programs to students, residents of Beverly Hills, and the general public. All funds raised go exclusively to the benefit of Doheny Greystone Estate.
