Nova Chrome UK Introduces Epson SureColor V1000 –
COMPACT UV PRINTING FOR PERSONALISED PRODUCTS Nova Chrome UK are proud to announce the Epson SureColor V1000 - Epson’s compact A4 desktop UV flatbed printer, designed for businesses producing personalised products, promotional items, awards, signage, gifts, phone cases, branded merchandise, and other custom items. The trophy and awards industry has always adapted to new technologies. From traditional rotary engraving to laser based systems and full colour dye-sublimation, businesses that embrace innovation are often the ones that stand out in an increasingly competitive marketplace. The introduction of the Epson SureColor V1000 UV flatbed printer, a compact A4 desktop UV flatbed printer presents another opportunity for awards professionals to expand their product offering, increase profitability and deliver greater personalisation to customers. Aimed at companies wanting to enter UV printing without investing in a large industrial machine, the V1000 combines a small desktop footprint with genuine industrial UV printing capability. Unlike sublimation, it prints directly onto the object itself, curing the ink instantly with UV light. This allows printing on materials such as acrylic, wood, aluminium, coated metals, plastics, leather, PVC, glass, and many promotional products. One of the biggest advantages of UV printing is the ability to produce vibrant full-colour graphics directly onto awards and presentation products. While traditional engraving remains highly valued for its premium appearance, there is growing demand for colour logos, photographic images, branding elements and personalised designs.
2
TROPHY & ENGRAVING NEWS
With its six-colour ink configuration, including white and varnish inks, the V1000 enables businesses to create striking visual effects that can command higher selling prices. For awards companies, this means the ability to personalise acrylic trophies with full-colour corporate branding, print directly onto presentation boxes, decorate wooden plaques or produce bespoke recognition products without the need for labels, transfers or additional finishing processes. White ink also allows printing onto dark or coloured substrates, while varnish can be used to create gloss highlights and textured effects that add perceived value to premium awards. The compact footprint of the printer is especially attractive for smaller trophy shops and premises where space is often at a premium. Measuring just 699mm square, the machine can fit onto a standard workbench while offering frontaccess operation,
meaning it can be positioned against a wall or in a corner without compromising usability. As customer demand for personalisation continues to grow, the ability to produce high-quality, full-colour customised products quickly and economically is becoming increasingly important. For trophy retailers and engraving specialists, the Epson SureColor V1000 offers a practical route into UV printing, providing new creative opportunities while helping businesses differentiate themselves in a competitive market. Whether enhancing existing award products or introducing entirely new revenue streams, it represents a technology worth serious consideration. For more information, sample printed products, or to arrange a full demonstration, please contact Nova Chrome UK on 01407 720011 / info@novachrome.co.uk

TEN TALKS DESIGN
WHAT MAKES A GREAT TROPHY OR AWARD DESIGN? By Jane Soones, Editor, TEN Magazine Great trophy design is about more than making something that looks impressive. From the first sketch to the finished award, successful design has to balance meaning, aesthetics, materials, manufacturing, personalisation and cost — whether the result is a one-off bespoke piece or thousands of identical trophies. A trophy or award has a unique role. Unlike many products, its purpose is not simply functional. It represents achievement, recognition and often a significant personal or professional milestone. It may be presented on stage, photographed for social media, displayed in a home or office and kept for many years. That puts considerable responsibility on its design. So, what makes an award genuinely successful?
Start with the story The strongest designs usually begin with understanding what the award represents. Before deciding on its shape, material or finish, the designer needs to understand the event, organisation, competition
or achievement being recognised. Is it celebrating sporting success, innovation, sales performance, long service, craftsmanship or an individual contribution? This is consistent with the Design Council’s Double Diamond approach, which begins by understanding and defining a problem before developing and delivering solutions. The principle is equally applicable to award design: understand the purpose before designing the object. A technology award, for example, might call for a contemporary, geometric design, while an award celebrating heritage or craftsmanship could benefit from more traditional forms and materials. The design should have a reason for being what it is.
Make the achievement visible A successful award should communicate something about the achievement it represents. That doesn’t necessarily mean relying on obvious symbols. A football doesn’t have to appear on a sporting trophy, nor does a lightbulb have to represent innovation. Shape, proportion, negative space, texture, colour and material can all communicate ideas. The World Intellectual Property Organisation defines industrial design as the ornamental or aesthetic aspect of a product, including elements such as shape, configuration, pattern, lines and colour. Visual appearance can also help distinguish products and reinforce identity. For award designers, this provides enormous creative scope. An abstract form can sometimes communicate an idea more effectively than a literal representation.
Proportion creates quality Even the best concept can be undermined by poor proportions. The relationship between the main body, base, logo, engraving area and decorative elements needs to feel deliberate. A large upper section with an undersized base can look unstable, while an overly substantial base can overwhelm an otherwise elegant design. Proportion is also important when creating different sizes of the same award. A design that works beautifully at 300mm may not translate directly to a smaller version. Fine details can disappear, engraving areas become restricted and components may need to be redesigned. Good award design considers the complete object rather than treating each element separately.

TROPHY & ENGRAVING NEWS
Choose materials with purpose Materials are part of the design language. Glass and crystal can convey prestige and lightness. Metal can suggest permanence and strength. Wood can introduce warmth and craftsmanship, while acrylic can provide colour, transparency and freedom of shape. There is no universally “best” material. The right choice depends on the story the award is trying to tell, the production method, the budget and the expected lifespan. Sustainability is increasingly another consideration. The Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s work on material selection highlights the importance of factors such as durability, lifetime and what happens to materials after their useful life. For awards, longevity is particularly relevant. A trophy is intended to be kept, so choosing materials and finishes that will continue to look good years after presentation is an important part of good design.
The base deserves attention The base is often overlooked during the creative process, yet it performs several important jobs. It provides stability, contributes to the overall proportions and usually provides the space for personalisation. It can also dramatically influence how substantial and valuable an award feels. The key is to make the base support the design rather than compete with it. Engraving and personalisation should be considered from the beginning. If the finished award needs to accommodate a recipient’s name, category, date, result or company logo, that space needs to be incorporated into the design rather than squeezed in at the end.
Designing for the moment An award needs to work beyond the display cabinet. Think about the presentation itself. The recipient may be holding it with one hand, standing under stage lighting while photographs are taken. It might be viewed from several metres away by an audience and then photographed close-up on a smartphone.
This means a good trophy needs to work from multiple viewpoints. It should also be practical to handle. Human-centred design principles emphasise understanding how people interact with products and the context in which that interaction takes place. A trophy can therefore be visually spectacular while still needing to be comfortable, stable and intuitive to pick up.
Bespoke versus volume design One of the biggest considerations for an award designer is how many need to be made. A one-off bespoke award gives the designer considerable freedom. Complex shapes, hand finishing, unusual materials and labour-intensive processes can all be justified when creating a unique piece for a prestigious occasion. A volume-produced trophy presents a very different challenge. School competitions, sports leagues, corporate recognition programmes, charity events and national award schemes can require hundreds or even thousands of awards. At that scale, design has to work not only visually but commercially and operationally. This is where Design for Manufacture (DFM) becomes particularly important. DFM means considering how a product will actually be manufactured while it is being designed. Factors such as materials,
production methods, tooling, tolerances, assembly and cost all need to be considered early rather than addressed after the design has been completed. For the trophy industry, that can have a major impact on the final design.
Designing for mass production When an award is going to be produced in large quantities, simplicity can be a strength. Every additional component, manufacturing process, finishing operation or assembly stage has the potential to increase production time and cost. A design that looks fantastic as a prototype may become commercially impractical when multiplied by 1,000. That doesn’t mean mass-produced awards need to be uninspiring. A distinctive silhouette, clever use of negative space, an unusual material combination or a strong graphic element can create visual impact without introducing unnecessary manufacturing complexity. The real skill is finding the point where design impact and manufacturing efficiency meet. Repeatability is equally important. The first trophy coming off the production line may look perfect, but so must the 500th and the 1,000th. Colour, alignment, dimensions, finish and assembly all need to remain consistent.
TROPHY & ENGRAVING NEWS
5
TEN TALKS DESIGN
Tolerances are an important part of this equation. Manufacturing tolerances allow for acceptable variation, but unnecessarily tight tolerances can increase cost, while excessive variation can affect quality and fit.
Fewer parts can mean better design Assembly can have a surprisingly large influence on the commercial viability of an award. If a trophy consists of numerous individual components that each have to be positioned, fixed, finished or decorated, the labour involved can quickly add up. Design for Assembly (DFA) therefore encourages designers to simplify assembly and reduce unnecessary parts where possible. Self-aligning components, fewer fixings and simpler assembly processes can all improve efficiency.
achieve the required shape? Is the tooling affordable? Can components be sourced consistently? Will the finish be repeatable? How difficult will the award be to assemble, package and transport? The manufacturing process should not simply happen after the design. It should influence the design from the beginning.
UK registered design protection can cover the appearance of a product, including features such as shape, configuration, decoration and colour, subject to the relevant requirements. The UK Intellectual Property Office recommends searching existing designs before applying for protection.
For award manufacturers, clever design can therefore make the difference between a product that is merely attractive and one that is genuinely profitable to produce.
This is particularly important when choosing between processes such as casting, injection moulding, pressing, machining, laser cutting, acrylic fabrication, 3D printing or a combination of techniques.
For award designers, checking what already exists can therefore be an important part of the development process.
Personalisation at scale
Less can be more
One of the most interesting challenges in trophy design is that the physical award may be standardised while the recipient experience is highly individual.
There is always a temptation to add another detail, another finish or another decorative element. But complexity doesn’t automatically equal quality.
Ultimately, great award design is about creating an emotional response.
A single trophy design might need to accommodate hundreds of names, dates, categories, logos or results.
The strongest designs usually have a clear focal point. Logos, colours, text and decorative elements should work together rather than compete for attention.
That means personalisation needs to be designed into the product. A dedicated engraving area, interchangeable plate, printed panel or other personalisation zone allows the same core award to be manufactured efficiently while still giving each recipient something unique.
This is particularly important with corporate awards, where brand identity may need to be incorporated without allowing the logo to dominate the physical design. Sometimes the designer’s most important decision is what not to include.
Standardised production doesn’t have to mean a standardised experience.
Originality and intellectual property
Don’t design something you can’t manufacture
Distinctive design can also become an important commercial asset.
A concept can look spectacular on a screen and still be the wrong design commercially.
For manufacturers and suppliers developing their own award ranges, originality matters—not only because customers are looking for something different, but because the appearance of a product can potentially be protected through design rights.
Before finalising a design, manufacturers need to consider how it will actually be produced. Can the chosen material

TROPHY & ENGRAVING NEWS
The final measure: does it feel special?
The recipient isn’t simply being given an object. They are being given a physical representation of something they achieved. That is why the most successful trophies bring together so many disciplines: graphic design, industrial design, materials, engineering, manufacturing, engraving, personalisation and even photography. A great award doesn’t necessarily have to be the biggest, most expensive or most complicated one on the stage. It needs to feel right for the achievement. Whether it is a one-off handcrafted piece or one of 5,000 trophies produced for a national competition, the same fundamental principle applies: every element should have a purpose. When the story, shape, materials, manufacturing process and personalisation all work together, the result becomes more than a trophy. It becomes part of the story of the achievement—and something the recipient will want to keep. Jane Soones - Editor, TEN Magazine
TEN ASKS - WHO ARE THE UK TROPHY WHOLESALERS
UK TROPHY WHOLESALERS: THE BUSINESSES BEHIND THE AWARDS If you run a trophy, engraving or awards business, you’ll know just how important your wholesalers are. They are the people behind the scenes who help keep our businesses stocked, give us plenty of choice and, very often, come to the rescue when we need something quickly! There are a number of established trophy wholesalers and suppliers serving the UK market, and although many offer similar products, each has its own strengths, specialisms and approach to the trade. I thought it would be interesting to take a look at eight of the names supplying the UK market and find out a little more about the businesses behind the products we use every day.
Award Designer Award Designer specialises in creating bespoke trophies and awards designed around a customer’s individual requirements. From awards created from company logos and specific themes to
commissioned pieces and contemporary sculptures, the company offers a creative approach to award design and manufacture. Using a combination of materials and techniques, including 3D printing, laser cutting, engraving and sustainable materials such as bamboo, Award Designer can produce distinctive pieces that are tailored to each brief. The company also offers sustainable award options, combining bamboo with 3D-printed elements to create personalised and eye-catching designs. With a focus on bespoke design, Award Designer works from the initial concept through to the finished award, helping customers create something unique rather than selecting from a standard range. CEBRIAN UK LTD
Cebrian Cebrian is a familiar name within the trophy and awards trade, with medals forming an important part of its offering. Alongside medals, the company supplies trophies, cups, resin and glass awards, medal cases and ribbons, giving retailers a variety of options across sporting, commemorative and other award requirements. Bespoke work is also part of the Cebrian offering. For retailers, the ability to source something created specifically for an event or customer can be particularly useful when a standard catalogue product isn’t quite what is required. That combination of ready-to-order products and more individual options gives trophy retailers and engravers greater flexibility when responding to customer enquiries — particularly those slightly more unusual requests where something a little different is needed. Website: cebrian.co.uk
Crystal Galleries Crystal Galleries has carved out a distinctive place within the awards industry, with glass and crystal very much at the heart of its business. The family-run company supplies an extensive selection of glass and crystal blanks, finished and engraved awards and gifts, as well as engraving equipment and associated supplies. Its customers include trophy retailers, glass engravers,

promotional distributors and corporate gifting businesses. With more than 1,400 products featured in its catalogue, there’s plenty of choice, and the company can also supply bespoke glass and crystal awards. For businesses carrying out their own engraving, Crystal Galleries also offers equipment and consumables. Glass and crystal are a natural fit for many areas of the awards market, from sporting achievements to corporate recognition, and Crystal Galleries’ specialist focus gives retailers a dedicated source for this side of the industry. Crystech (UK) Ltd Crystech (UK) Ltd has been supplying the trophy and awards trade since 1994, building a strong reputation for its extensive range of medals and accessories. The company operates strictly as a trade-only wholesaler, supplying trophy retailers and other businesses rather than selling directly to the public. Its range includes a wide selection of medals and centre holders, covering everything from popular sporting events to achievement and commemorative occasions. Alongside its standard medal ranges, Crystech also offers a bespoke service, producing specially commissioned medals, ribbons, pins and coins to customers’ own designs. This can be particularly useful for retailers looking to offer something more personal or create a completely unique award for a particular event or organisation. The range also extends to woven ribbons, presentation boxes, crystal and glass awards, giving retailers plenty of options to complement their medal requirements. Based in Staffordshire, Crystech continues to focus on providing quality products alongside prompt, reliable service and personal attention — something that remains particularly important when supplying the busy trophy and awards trade. choice matters, of course, but so do availability, personalisation and being able to get what you need when you need it.
Glenway Glenway is an established supplier within the UK trophy and awards trade, offering products for retailers and businesses serving the awards market. Its range gives trophy retailers and engravers another source when selecting awards for their customers, whether they are looking for sporting trophies, medals or products for other recognition occasions. Choice is particularly important in today’s market. Traditional trophies remain a firm favourite, especially within sport, but customers are also looking for different styles and designs to suit everything from grassroots competitions to larger presentations and events. For retailers, having a choice of wholesalers is an important part of running a successful awards business. It means being able to compare products, styles and availability and, ultimately, find the right award for the customer standing on the other side of the counter. Glenway remains one of the names serving that UK trade market. Website: glenway.co.uk
Goodwill Trophy Company Goodwill Trophy Company is based in the West Midlands and supplies trophies and medals to the trade. Its range covers a variety of sporting and award products, together with the components and engraving supplies that are such an important part of our industry. This can be particularly useful when you’re putting together an award yourself or simply need that one component to complete an order. Goodwill also provides an engraving service and offers next-day delivery to most parts of the UK. That combination of products and practical services can be especially valuable when an order arrives with a tight deadline — something I’m sure most people in our industry have experienced! For a busy trophy or engraving business, having suppliers that understand the realities of the trade is important. Product

SDL Group SDL Group is an interesting business because its roots are firmly within the trophy industry, but the business has developed into something much broader over the years. Beginning life as SDL Trophies, the company went on to expand into other areas of sport, including sports equipment and teamwear, as well as associated markets. More recently, the business has entered another stage in its development. SDL Sports Brands Ltd officially launched in April 2026, bringing together Gaelic Armour, Surridge Sports and SDL Trophy. It’s a good example of how a business can grow beyond its original market while retaining the experience and connections built there. SDL Trophy remains part of that wider sporting family, maintaining the link with the awards industry from which the business originally grew. For those of us working within the trade, it’s always interesting to see how businesses adapt as markets and customer requirements change — and how those original industry roots can continue to form part of a much bigger story. Trophy Distributors Trophy Distributors is another wellestablished supplier to the UK trophy trade, with a range that goes beyond finished trophies. As well as complete awards, the company supplies component parts,

shields, cups and glassware, giving retailers and engravers plenty of scope when choosing or creating awards for their customers. Components are perhaps one of the less glamorous parts of the trophy business, but anyone working in the industry knows just how useful they are! Being able to change a figure, base, centre or another element can turn a standard award into something that feels much more personal. The company operates from substantial warehouse facilities in Aldridge, Walsall, reflecting the importance of stockholding within trophy wholesale. Ultimately, having a broad range available is one of the biggest advantages a wholesaler can offer. When a customer needs something quickly, being able to find the right product — or the right parts to create it — can make all the difference. Website: trophydistributors.co.uk

Looking at these eight businesses, one thing becomes clear: there’s much more to trophy wholesale than simply sending out boxes of trophies. Of course, having the right products in stock and getting them delivered when we need them will always be at the heart of the business. But today’s suppliers offer much more alongside that. Personalisation, bespoke products, glass and crystal, components and an evergrowing choice of designs have all become part of the mix. And perhaps that’s what makes the relationship between a trophy retailer and its wholesalers so important. We rely on them not just for products, but for choice, availability and sometimes a solution to a
The eight companies featured here are all different, and that’s really the point. Different suppliers bring different strengths to the industry, whether that’s medals, glass and crystal, components, sporting trophies, corporate awards, personalisation or simply having a broad range readily available. For retailers and engravers, having that choice is invaluable. One supplier won’t necessarily be the answer to every job, and having a good knowledge of what each has to offer helps us find the right solution for our customers. Ultimately, that’s what our industry is all about — creating something that marks an achievement, celebrates an occasion or gives someone a lasting reminder of something they’ve worked hard to accomplish. CRYSTAL GALLERIES
FROM PODIUM TO BOARDROOM: The Evolving Story of Crystal Galleries Awards An award has always had one job, to make a moment matter. But the definition of “mattering” is shifting fast. Recipients no longer just want a trophy for the cabinet, they want a piece that reflects the occasion, the brand and increasingly, the values behind both. At Crystal Galleries, our awards collection has been built around bringing together material choice, decoration precision and genuine innovation under one roof.
A Material for Every Brief No two awards ceremonies are the same and our award ranges reflect that. Optical crystal remains the benchmark for premium, boardroom-grade pieces, its clarity and weight doing much of the talking before a single word is engraved. Alongside it sits jade, offering a warmer, distinctive alternative for brands looking to stand apart from the traditional crystal look. Sustainability continues to shape buying decisions across the industry and our acrylic awards including options made from 100% recycled material along with our sustainable wood range, give distributors a genuine answer when clients ask for recognition that doesn’t cost the earth.
Precision Beneath the Surface Subsurface laser crystal continues to be one of the most requested techniques in our range and for good reason. Etching a design, logo, or even a 3D model into solid crystal creates a genuine “how did they do that” moment, one that photographs beautifully and holds its impact long after the presentation is over. Paired with our traditional sandblast engraving, it means

every logo, however intricate, has a home somewhere in the collection.
What’s New for 2026 Two recent additions are already turning heads with our distributor partners. Our LED display bases bring a modern, retail-standard finish to crystal and glass awards, lighting the piece from within for a presentation-ready glow that works equally well on a desk or in a display cabinet. Alongside this, our Clearvue photo frames add a versatile, personal option to the range where a photograph tells the story better than a logo alone.
Awards Built to Last Star awards, globe awards, sporting trophies, crystal clocks, the classics remain a core part of what we do, and for good reason. But every piece, whether from our long-standing ranges or our newest additions, can be built out into a fully bespoke award, engraved and finished to a client’s exact brief. With over 40 years of heritage behind us and continued investment in our Middlesbrough workshop, we remain focused on giving our distributors the range, the quality and the turnaround they need to win business at every level. From the local sports club to the global corporate stage. Whether it’s a single trophy or a full incentive programme, we invite our customers to explore the awards collection and see how the right piece can turn a moment of recognition into something genuinely memorable. TEN TALKS PERSONALISATION
THE FINISHING TOUCH: HOW PERSONALISATION BRINGS TROPHY DESIGN TO LIFE In our previous article, we looked at the elements that make a great trophy design – from shape, proportion and materials to colour, symbolism and the importance of creating an award that communicates achievement. But there is another element that can transform even the most beautifully designed trophy: personalisation. A trophy may be produced in hundreds or even thousands of identical versions, but once a recipient’s name, achievement, date or message is added, it becomes something personal. It moves from being a product to being their award. For the trophy, awards and engraving industry, personalisation is therefore much more than the final stage of production. It should be considered part of the design process from the outset.
Personalisation starts with the design The best time to think about personalisation is not when the finished trophies arrive at the engraving bench. It is when the trophy is first designed. The shape and material of an award will influence which techniques can be used, while the available space will determine how much information can be included. A flat metal plate offers very different possibilities from a curved glass surface. An acrylic award may lend itself particularly well to laser cutting and engraving, while metal may be better suited to mechanical engraving or laser marking. The question shouldn’t simply be, “How are we going to personalise this trophy?”. It should be: “How can the personalisation become part of the overall
18

design?”. When that is considered from the beginning, the finished engraving feels integrated rather than something added as an afterthought.
on metals, plastics, acrylic, wood and, with the appropriate tooling, glass. It is particularly useful when a deeper, tactile engraving is required.
Rotary engraving – the traditional approach
It is also well suited to plates and trophies with curved or cylindrical surfaces when used with the appropriate rotary equipment.
Rotary or mechanical engraving remains an important technique within the awards industry. Using a cutting tool to physically remove material from the surface, it can be used
For traditional awards, plaques and engraved plates, mechanical engraving continues to provide a distinctive, professional finish.

TEN TALKS PERSONALISATION
The ability to colour-fill an engraving can also add contrast and make names or logos stand out.
Laser engraving and marking Laser technology has opened up even more possibilities for trophy personalisation. Unlike mechanical engraving, laser engraving is a non-contact process. Depending on the laser source and material, it can engrave or mark surfaces including wood, acrylic, plastics, glass and certain metals. Its speed, precision and ability to reproduce fine detail make it particularly useful for personalised awards, as well as for cutting and engraving components for the trophy itself. It can also be highly effective for batch production. A manufacturer can produce a standard trophy design in quantity and add individual names or other variable information later. The result is a consistent product with an individual finish.
Diamond drag engraving Diamond drag is a mechanical engraving technique in which a diamond tip is drawn across the surface rather than rotated. It is particularly associated with glass engraving, where the diamond creates fine grooves and a characteristic white or frosted appearance. It can also be used for fine marking on suitable metals and other materials. For awards where a traditional, understated finish is required, diamond engraving can be particularly effective. The choice between rotary engraving, diamond drag and laser marking is therefore not simply a technical decision. Each creates a different look and feel.
Glass and crystal Glass and crystal awards remain popular for corporate recognition, long-service awards and prestigious events. Personalisation can be achieved using laser engraving, mechanical engraving with a diamond tip, or sandblasting. Laser engraving can create a frosted effect within glass, while mechanical engraving produces physical grooves

in the surface. Sandblasting can provide a broader, more tactile frosted finish.
isn’t choosing one technique, but combining several.
The transparency of glass also makes lighting an important part of the finished design. The position, scale and depth of the personalisation can all affect how the award looks when displayed.
Contrast and legibility
Colour and print
A recipient’s name is often the most important information on an award. If it disappears into the background or is too small to read easily, the personalisation has failed, regardless of how impressive the production technique may be.
Personalisation doesn’t always have to mean engraving. Sublimation can be used to create full-colour graphics on suitable coated products, making it useful where photographs, detailed logos or multiple colours are required. UV printing provides another option for adding colour and detailed graphics, particularly to acrylic and other suitable award materials. It can also be combined with laser engraving or cutting to create a more layered effect. This opens up another design consideration: sometimes the best result
Whatever technique is selected, one of the most important considerations is legibility.
Contrast can be created through the material itself, engraving depth, colour filling, a contrasting plate or printed graphics. Typography matters too. A typeface that looks beautiful in the original artwork may not work when reproduced at a small size. Fine strokes and complicated characters can become difficult to engrave or read.

TEN TALKS PERSONALISATION
This is where the principles discussed in the first article – proportion, balance and visual hierarchy – come into play again. The personalisation needs to belong to the design.
Designing for different names There is another practical consideration: not every recipient’s name is the same length. A design that looks perfectly balanced with a short name can look very different when a considerably longer name needs to be accommodated. This is particularly important with standardised awards produced in large quantities. Font size, alignment, line breaks and available space may all need to be flexible enough to accommodate different names without compromising the overall appearance. Good personalisation design anticipates these variations rather than leaving them
to be solved individually at the engraving stage.
Personalisation at scale Schools, sporting organisations, businesses and major events can require hundreds or even thousands of awards, each with different recipient details. This creates an interesting balance between standardisation and individuality. The physical trophy may be identical, but every personalised version is unique. Digital engraving and printing technologies, combined with templates and production software, can make it possible to process large quantities of variable information efficiently and consistently. Batch engraving can also reduce production time when multiple personalised plates or components are required. For manufacturers and engravers, this means the trophy design and the personalisation process need to work together.
The finishing touch Ultimately, personalisation is not simply about identifying the recipient. It records the achievement and creates the connection between the award and the person receiving it. The first article explored how great trophy design creates visual impact and communicates achievement. Personalisation takes that concept one step further. It tells us who achieved it, what they achieved and when. Whether it is mechanically engraved into a metal plate, laser engraved into acrylic or glass, diamond engraved into crystal, printed in full colour or sandblasted into glass, those carefully considered details can turn a well-designed trophy into an award that is genuinely treasured. Great design creates the award Personalisation makes it theirs. Jane Soones - Editor, TEN Magazine

CHRISTMAS GROTTO MERCHANDISE: TURN FESTIVE MEMORIES INTO PERSONALISED KEEPSAKES For Christmas grotto operators and seasonal event businesses, the festive experience is about creating memories. Families visit Santa, photographs are taken and, increasingly, there is an opportunity to turn those special moments into personalised keepsakes that customers can take home. For businesses running Christmas grottos, garden centre Santa experiences, visitor attractions, shopping centre events and Christmas markets, purchasing blank photo merchandise to produce gifts can provide an additional revenue opportunity while adding value to the customer experience. My-Accessories supplies a wide range of blank products designed for businesses that create and sell their own personalised gifts, with bulk quantities available for seasonal demand.
Make the photograph part of the gift A photograph from a child’s visit to Santa is already a treasured memory but placing that image into a personalised product can turn it into a lasting keepsake. Blank photo keyrings and magnets are
particularly well suited to Christmas events. They are compact, affordable and straightforward to personalise, making them ideal for businesses looking to offer customers a choice of festive gifts at different price points. Christmas-specific products can also add variety to a seasonal merchandise range, including blank snow domes, Christmas decorations, baubles and festive photo products. Businesses can create their own artwork incorporating photographs, children’s names, event branding, Christmas messages or logos.
Create merchandise unique to your event One of the advantages of working with blank products is the ability to create merchandise that is specific to an individual grotto or event. A photograph taken during a Santa visit could become a personalised keyring, fridge magnet or Christmas decoration and creating your own imagery allows you to include bespoke branding. This helps businesses offer something more memorable than generic Christmas merchandise, while giving customers a product that is directly connected to their visit. The same approach can be used for photographs taken at Christmas markets, corporate events, school Christmas activities and other seasonal attractions.

WHY EPSON ULTRACHROME DS INK DELIVERS OUTSTANDING VALUE… When evaluating the true cost of sublimation printing, the price of an ink bottle tells only part of the story. Epson’s UltraChrome DS ink has been engineered specifically for the SureColor F-Series, delivering exceptional colour consistency, predictable performance and reliable production while helping to keep running costs under control. Unlike many dedicated sublimation printer brands that rely on smaller, high-cost cartridges, Epson’s highcapacity bottle system provides a significantly lower cost per ml, reducing consumable costs and maximising the value of every refill. The bottle-based system also minimises waste, makes refilling simple and supports uninterrupted production. Unlike many dedicated sublimation printer brands that rely on smaller, high-cost cartridges, Epson‘s highcapacity bottle system provides a significantly lower cost per ml, reducing consumable costs and maximising the value of every refill. The bottle-based system also minimises waste, makes refilling simple and supports uninterrupted production. For businesses focused on profitability, Epson offers a compelling combination of low ink costs, professional colour accuracy and the confidence of a complete, manufacturer-supported printing solution. Compared with many competing dedicated sublimation systems, Epson enables businesses to produce more prints for less while maintaining the quality their customers expect.

TROPHY & ENGRAVING NEWS
High-Capacity Bottle System Epson’s refillable bottle system has become one of the defining features of the SC-F500 and SC-F100. Compared with traditional cartridgebased systems, refill bottles offer a number of operational benefits. For busy production environments, these small efficiencies quickly add up over
hundreds or even thousands of prints, saving you money. Lower packaging waste. Faster, cleaner refilling. Less production downtime. Excellent visibility of remaining ink levels. Understanding the Real Cost Per Print Many print businesses will discover that the actual ink cost of an A4 sublimation print is surprisingly low.
Although usage naturally depends on image coverage and colour density, a typical full-colour A4 transfer generally consumes only a few ml of ink. When combined with UltraChrome DS‘s competitive cost per ml, the ink element of each print represents only a small proportion of the total production cost at around £0.34p ex VAT. This allows businesses to concentrate on improving profitability through efficient workflow, quality substrates and valueadded products rather than worrying about excessive ink costs.
A Smart Investment for Growing Businesses Whether you’re producing mugs, sportswear, promotional products, signage or personalsied gifts, understanding your running costs is essential. Epson UltraChrome DS ink combines: Competitive cost per ml at less than 17p ex VAT. Consistent professional colour quality. High-capacity 140ml refill bottles. Reliable day-to-day performance. Genuine Epson manufacturing and support. Rather than focusing solely on the purchase price of consumables, businesses should consider the complete cost of ownership—including productivity, maintenance, print consistency and waste. For many print providers, this broader view shows why Epson SureColor printers and UltraChrome DS inks continue to be trusted by professionals around the world. If you’re considering a dedicated sublimation printing solution, we’d be happy to help you compare running costs, expected print volumes and the total cost of ownership to ensure you
choose the right Epson system for your business.
From A4 Sheets to 24Inch Rolls – One Printer, Endless Possibilities One of the key advantages of the Epson SureColor SC-F500 is its ability to grow with your business. Whether you’re producing individual personalised gifts or expanding into larger-format textile and signage applications, the SC-F500
provides exceptional media flexibility without the need to invest in multiple printers. The printer supports both cut sheet media and roll-fed media, allowing users to switch between short-run jobs and larger production work with ease. Officially, the SC-F500 supports A4 and A3 cut sheets, as well as media rolls up to 24 inches (610 mm) wide, giving businesses the freedom to print exactly what they need for each application.

NOVACHROME
Perfect for Businesses, Ready to Scale Many businesses begin their sublimation journey producing mugs, gifts and personalised keepsakes before expanding into apparel and larger-format products. The SC-F500 supports this progression naturally. Users can start with affordable A4 and A3 sheet media for short-run production, then transition to 24-inch roll printing as demand increases—all without changing printers or learning a new workflow.
Engineered as a Complete Printing System Unlike some sublimation solutions that combine third-party inks with generic hardware, Epson designs the printer, PrecisionCore printhead, firmware and UltraChrome DS inks as one integrated system.
This approach offers several advantages: Predictable and repeatable colour reproduction.
Combined with Epson’s PrecisionCore printhead technology, UltraChrome DS inks and intuitive media handling, the SC-F500 offers an ideal balance between compact desktop convenience and professional wide-format capability. For businesses looking to future-proof their investment, this flexibility means the printer can adapt as new products, customers and opportunities emerge, making it an excellent long-term choice for both start-ups and established sublimation businesses.
merchandise or photo gifts, consistency is every bit as important as outright print quality.
Consistent print quality from the first print to the last. Reliable drying and transfer performance. Reduced risk of clogging when genuine consumables are used. Factory-developed colour management profiles. For businesses producing personalised products, garments, promotional
Built for Reliability Every hour spent cleaning printheads, troubleshooting colour issues or replacing components is time that cannot be spent producing customer orders. Because UltraChrome DS inks are specifically formulated for Epson SureColor sublimation printers, users benefit from a system that has been engineered and tested to work together. Genuine Epson consumables help maintain consistent performance and reduce the risk associated with incompatible inks. For businesses where reliability matters, this can translate into greater productivity and fewer unexpected interruptions.
