TEN TALKS THE FUTURE OF THE TROPHY
THE FUTURE OF TROPHIES: WHAT COULD BE POSSIBLE? By Jane Soones, Editor, TEN Magazine What will the trophy of the future look like? It is an interesting question, particularly at a time when technology, personalisation and changing customer expectations are opening up new possibilities for the awards industry. The traditional trophy is certainly not disappearing – and I don’t believe it should. Cups, medals, shields and classic awards have been celebrating achievement for generations and remain an important part of our industry. But alongside those traditional designs, there is now an opportunity to create something very different. In fact, much of the technology that could transform the trophy of the future already exists. The question is perhaps less about what technology will be invented next, and more about how creatively we can use the technology and materials that are already available.
A trophy can now tell a story Personalisation has always been important in the awards industry, but modern technology has taken it much further than simply adding a name and date. Today, trophies can incorporate full-colour graphics, photographs, logos and highly detailed designs using UV printing. Laser cutting and engraving allow manufacturers to create intricate shapes and precise details, while CNC machining and 3D printing open up further possibilities for bespoke designs. This means an award can be created specifically around an event, organisation or individual. Rather than choosing a standard trophy and adding a name afterwards, the entire award can be designed around the achievement. And this is where I think there is enormous potential for the future.
2
TROPHY & ENGRAVING NEWS
What if the trophy could tell the whole story? QR codes are already a simple and affordable way of connecting a physical trophy with the digital world. A QR code incorporated discreetly into an award could link the recipient to photographs from the event, a video of their winning moment, competition results, a personalised message or even a dedicated webpage celebrating their achievement. Imagine a sports trophy presented to a winning team. The physical trophy could include a QR code linking to the final results, photographs, player statistics and a video of the final. The trophy remains something tangible to display, but it also becomes a permanent link to the memory behind it. And the technology doesn’t have to stop with QR codes. NFC technology can also be incorporated into products, allowing a smartphone to interact with an award simply by tapping it. As this technology becomes more familiar to consumers, there is potential for it to become another useful feature within premium or commemorative awards.

TEN TALKS THE FUTURE OF THE TROPHY
Personalisation without limits We are already seeing an increasing demand for awards that are more individual, and technology is making this commercially achievable. Digital printing means designs can be changed from one award to the next without necessarily requiring a completely different production process. Laser technology can create individual names, numbers, dates and designs, while 3D printing can produce increasingly complex shapes and structures. This could lead to a future where no two trophies have to be exactly the same. For retailers, this also creates an opportunity to offer customers something beyond a catalogue of standard products. The conversation can move from “Which trophy would you like?” to “What would you like us to create?” That is a very different proposition.
Sustainability could change the way we design Another major influence on the future of trophies will be sustainability. The industry is already exploring recycled and recyclable materials, sustainable timber, reduced packaging and manufacturing processes that minimise waste. But there is potential to take this further.
4
TROPHY & ENGRAVING NEWS
Could trophies be designed so that components can be replaced rather than the entire award being discarded? Could a standard base be reused while the personalised element is changed each year? Could awards be designed for easier separation and recycling at the end of their life? These are questions worth considering now, rather than waiting for them to become industry requirements. Sustainability can also become part of the story behind an award. A trophy made using recycled metal or responsibly sourced timber can communicate something about the values of the organisation presenting it.
3D printing and new design possibilities 3D printing is another technology that is already changing what manufacturers can create. Complex shapes, intricate structures and highly individual designs can be produced without some of the traditional tooling requirements associated with conventional manufacturing. For bespoke and short-run awards, this can be particularly interesting. A manufacturer may be able to create a completely unique design for a specific event without needing to produce hundreds or thousands of identical pieces. As the technology continues to develop, the possibilities will become even greater. But perhaps the most important change isn’t the technology itself. It is the freedom that technology gives designers to think differently.

TEN TALKS THE FUTURE OF THE TROPHY
Why does a trophy have to look like a trophy? This is perhaps the question I would most like the industry to ask. Why does an award have to follow a traditional shape? It can be a sculpture. It can be minimalist, colourful, illuminated or interactive. It can combine metal, acrylic, wood, glass and recycled materials. It can incorporate a QR code or NFC technology. It can be individually 3D printed, digitally printed or laser cut. And it can still be a trophy. The traditional cup will always have its place. There is something reassuring and instantly recognisable about the classic forms we have grown up with. But alongside those traditional designs, there is an opportunity to create awards that are completely different.
The future is already here For me, the future of trophies isn’t necessarily about waiting for the next revolutionary invention. Much of the technology we need is already here. QR codes can connect trophies to digital memories. NFC can make awards interactive. UV printing can bring photographs and full-colour graphics to life. Laser cutting and engraving
can create intricate personalisation. 3D printing can produce bespoke shapes. New materials can offer alternative approaches to sustainability. The real opportunity is in bringing these technologies together with good design. Imagine an award made from recycled metal and sustainably sourced wood, featuring a laser-cut personalised design, full-colour UV graphics and an embedded QR code linking to a video of the achievement. That isn’t science fiction. We can already do it. And perhaps that is what makes the future of our industry so exciting. The challenge now is not simply to ask what technology is coming next. It is to look at what is available today and ask how much further we can take it. Because ultimately, the purpose of a trophy will never change. It is there to recognise achievement, celebrate a moment and create something that can be treasured. The technology simply gives us more ways to tell that story. So perhaps the question isn’t what will the trophy of the future look like? Perhaps it is: What can we create with what we already have? Jane Soones - Editor, TEN Magazine
POKALE BAUER | TROPHY MONSTER
TROPHIES THAT ARE MAKING AN IMPACT THIS YEAR The world of trophies and awards is evolving. While traditional cups, medals and trophies remain hugely popular, today’s customers are increasingly looking for something different – awards that feel contemporary, distinctive and closely connected to the achievement they represent.
One of the biggest trends making an impact this year is the combination of metal, acrylic and wood. Bringing these contrasting materials together creates a modern, premium aesthetic while opening up almost limitless opportunities for creativity, personalisation and design. Metal continues to play an important role in award design. Its weight, durability and prestigious appearance immediately communicate quality. From traditional medals and engraved plates to intricate trophy components, metal can provide a timeless element that works equally well in classic and contemporary designs. Acrylic, on the other hand, offers a much more modern approach. Available in a wide variety of colours, finishes and thicknesses, acrylic can be shaped and layered to create striking visual effects. Its ability to incorporate bold graphics, vibrant colours and transparent elements makes it particularly suited to awards designed to stand out. Then there is wood, which is increasingly being used to bring warmth and a natural feel to modern trophy designs. The contrast between natural wood and materials such as polished metal or brightly coloured acrylic can create an award that feels both contemporary and sophisticated. Wood can be used as a traditional-style base, but it can also become a key part of the overall design. The combination of these three materials allows manufacturers to move away from the idea that a trophy has to follow a particular format. Instead, each element can be used for a specific purpose – metal for prestige, acrylic for impact and wood for warmth and character.
Personalisation is key Of course, great design is only part of the story. Personalisation continues to be one of the most important factors influencing the awards market. Today’s customers want trophies and medals that are specific to their event, organisation, competition or recipient.

POKALE BAUER | TROPHY MONSTER
Rather than simply adding a name to a standard trophy, there is growing demand for designs that incorporate branding, logos, graphics and other elements from the outset. Modern production technology is helping manufacturers meet this demand. Full-colour UV printing, engraving and laser cutting offer an extensive range of possibilities for creating truly individual awards. UV printing, for example, allows detailed full-colour graphics, logos and photographic images to be reproduced directly onto suitable surfaces. Laser cutting can be used to create intricate shapes and lettering, while engraving provides a classic and highly durable method of adding names, dates and other information. Used individually or together, these techniques can transform a relatively simple trophy into something much more personal.
simply selecting from a catalogue of standard designs.
For sporting events, clubs and tournaments, this might mean incorporating team colours, competition branding or a distinctive event logo. For dog shows, schools, corporate events and special occasions, the design can be tailored to reflect the identity and character of the event.
There is also an important commercial opportunity for trophy retailers. Offering customers greater choice and personalisation can help businesses differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive market. Rather than competing purely on price, retailers can focus on design, quality and the added value of creating an award that is genuinely unique.
Designing for the occasion The flexibility of mixed-material awards also means that manufacturers can respond to an increasingly diverse market. Not every recipient wants the same style of trophy. A prestigious corporate award may call for a minimalist combination of metal and clear acrylic, while a youth sporting competition could benefit from brighter colours and more playful shapes. A natural wood element might be perfect for an outdoor event or an organisation looking to emphasise sustainability and a connection with nature. This ability to adapt is one of the reasons mixed-material trophies are proving so popular. They offer the customer the opportunity to create something that feels appropriate to the occasion rather than

TROPHY & ENGRAVING NEWS
More than just a trophy Ultimately, the appeal of an award goes far beyond its physical appearance. A trophy represents a moment. It might celebrate winning a championship, completing a competition, reaching a personal milestone or simply being recognised for outstanding achievement. For the recipient, it becomes a physical reminder of that moment – something they can display, keep and look back on for years to come. That makes the design of an award particularly important. The trophy needs to feel worthy of the achievement it represents. As the industry continues to embrace new materials, production methods and design possibilities, there is greater scope
than ever to create awards that are individual, memorable and visually impressive. The combination of metal, acrylic and wood demonstrates just how far modern trophy design can go. By combining traditional materials with contemporary techniques and complete personalisation, manufacturers can create awards that appeal to today’s customers while still retaining the sense of prestige that makes trophies so special.
Because a winner doesn’t take home just a trophy. They take home a memory of their achievement.

More Than Just a Photograph
TROPHY & ENGRAVING NEWS
Magnetic photo frames offer an easy way to display an individual school portrait on a fridge or other magnetic surface with the option to also use as a freestanding photo frame. They provide a simple alternative to a conventional frame and can be incorporated into a photography package as an affordable personalised keepsake.
The advantage of using blank insert products is that photographers can make greater use of the images they are already capturing. A single school portrait can be used across a variety of products, allowing businesses to create different package levels or offer personalised items as additional purchases.
Passport-sized insert keyrings are another natural fit for school photography. Their compact format works particularly well with individual portraits and gives parents the option to purchase additional keyrings for family members or grandparents.
Products such as magnetic photo frames, passport-sized insert keyrings, blank photo magnets and coasters provide simple ways to turn a printed photograph into a practical gift.
Blank photo magnets offer another low-cost product that can be personalised using individual or class photographs. Their versatility makes them suitable as package additions or optional extras.
For high-volume school photography, ease of production is particularly important. Blank products can be purchased in bulk, so that photographs can be prepared, printed and inserted as part of the photographer’s existing production process.

The contemporary glass design provides an attractive way to showcase school portraits and could work particularly well as part of an upgraded or premium photography package.

A photographer could offer a standard package containing prints, with upgraded options including a personalised keyring, magnetic frame or photo magnet that families can use themselves and pass on as gifts. Premium packages could then incorporate multiple personalised products or a glass photo frame. This approach gives parents greater choice while allowing photographers to increase the perceived value of their packages. As school photography continues to evolve, personalised photo products provide a straightforward way to move beyond the traditional photograph.

TROTEC LASER
TROTEC INTRODUCES SPEEDMARKER 330: THE FIRST GALVO LASER SYSTEM WITH RUBY® LASER SOFTWARE New Compact Galvo Laser Solution Combines IndustrialGrade Marking Quality with Intuitive, Software-Based Workflows. With the new SpeedMarker 330, Trotec Laser introduces a compact, productionoriented laser marking solution for small to medium-sized production runs. The SpeedMarker 330 is the first galvo laser system to run on Ruby® laser software, bringing the intuitive, workflowbased operating logic of the Ruby® platform to industrial laser marking. The new SpeedMarker 330 is designed for companies that require reliable marking, reproducible marking quality, and efficient workflows in a compact workstation system. The focus is not only on the individual marking operation but on the entire process—from job preparation through software-assisted execution to the finished mark. „With the SpeedMarker 330, we are bringing the Ruby® platform to industrial galvo laser marking for the first time. Users benefit from a seamless workflow— from job preparation to the finished mark. This makes processes simpler, more reproducible, and more efficient“, says Martin Sammer, Product Manager for Galvo Laser Systems.
From Marking Laser to Production Workflow The SpeedMarker 330 was designed as a universal benchtop marking solution for companies across a wide range of industries—particularly for industrial manufacturers, job shops, and users

in the fields of engraving and personalization. It is ideally suited for small to medium batch sizes and for any application where efficiency, workflow automation, reliable marking, and ease of use are critical. Thanks to the integration of Ruby®, marking processes are managed with greater software support. Users benefit from structured workflows, intuitive operation, and improved standardization of recurring tasks. This helps companies increase repeatability, reduce operational effort, and streamline processes from preparation through production.
Reproducible Quality in a Compact Design The SpeedMarker 330 combines a compact design with industrial-grade marking performance. The laser system complies with Laser Class 2, enabling safe operation without additional protective measures. Key features include a 100-watt MOPA fiber laser, a marking field of 150 × 150 mm, autofocus, an automatic door, a 10.1-inch HMI touchscreen, and the Ruby® laser software as the central platform for workflow and automation. The solution is designed to deliver reliable and reproducible marking results— from the first component to the last. As a result, the SpeedMarker 330 is particularly well-suited for production environments where traceability, process reliability, and consistent quality play a key role.
Production-ready, easy to use, and scalable As a compact workstation solution, the SpeedMarker 330 can be integrated into production-ready environments. The combination of Ruby® software, autofocus, an automated door, and structured process guidance simplifies operation and supports fast, repeatable workflows in everyday operations. The SpeedMarker 330 thus bridges the gap between professional marking quality and productive workflows, while also serving as the entry point to a new generation of SpeedMarkers featuring Ruby® software.
Benefits for Flatbed Laser Users With the SpeedMarker 330, the Ruby® ecosystem expands beyond flatbed lasers for the first time. Users who already work with Ruby® benefit from familiar operating concepts and workflows. This allows existing knowledge to be directly applied to industrial galvo laser marking, simplifying the transition and accelerating the implementation of new applications. https://www.troteclaser.com/en/ laser-machines/fiber-laserspeedmarker-330

NEW HPD TWIN TABLE DTF HEAT PRESS The Magic Transfer Company confirm their appointment as an official re-seller of the new HPD Twin Table Pneumatic Heat Press for production transfer applications. With the continued growth and popularity of the DTF transfer process and having an affordable option to decorate garments quickly and professionally can only enhance and improve productivity. CRYSTAL GALLERIES
THE COLOUR REVOLUTION: REDEFINING CORPORATE GLASSWARE FOR 2026 As the corporate glass market becomes increasingly sophisticated, the demand for high-impact, brand-aligned recognition has never been higher. While traditional sandblast engraving remains a timeless staple of the industry, 2026 marks a turning point in how we perceive branded glass. At Crystal Galleries, we are seeing a significant shift toward vibrant, multi-colour decoration and functional, high-end gifts that bridge the gap between a trophy and a retail-standard lifestyle piece.
Bridging the Gap with Full-Colour Decals One of the most significant challenges in glass decoration has always been the reproduction of complex, multi-coloured logos without the high entry costs of traditional methods. We are proud to lead this colour revolution with our new Full-Colour Decal Transfer service. By utilising high-definition digital printing, we can now render intricate logos

complete with gradients and fine detail onto our entire range of glassware and crystal. With a low MOQ of just 24 pieces and a rapid 7-day lead time, this technology allows distributors to offer their clients a level of brand precision previously reserved for large-scale industrial runs. To support this drive for quality, we have also recently invested in state-of-the-art machinery for our High-Fire decoration process. Often referred to as the gold standard of colour logos, high-fire decals are fused to the piece at extreme temperatures, making the design an integral, permanent part of the glass. This investment in our Middlesbroughbased facility ensures that as we scale our speed and output, the quality remains unmatched. For corporate clients looking for longevity especially in the hospitality and premium gifting sectors this permanent finish offers a level of durability that reinforces the prestige of the brand it carries. The 2026 corporate gift is no longer destined for a dusty shelf, it is designed to be used and admired. We are seeing a resurgence in functional luxury, exemplified by the latest addition to our collection, the HM131 Round Crystal Decanter. Whether it is marking a retirement, a partnership
milestone, or a high-level executive gift, pieces like the HM131 offer a canvas for both traditional engraving and our new colour processes. When paired with our bespoke satin-lined presentation packaging, the experience becomes as memorable as the gift itself. By combining 40 years of heritage with constant technological reinvestment, we ensure that our distributors have the tools they need to stay at the top of their game. In a world where brand identity is everything, we believe that corporate awards should take pride of place, and shine in every possible colour. TEN TALKS CUSTOM MEDALS
CUSTOM MEDALS: MAKING EVERY ACHIEVEMENT PERSONAL Whether it’s crossing a finish line, winning a school competition, or taking part in a charity challenge, receiving a medal is a moment that matters. Today, custom medals are helping organisers turn those moments into lasting memories by creating awards that feel personal, meaningful and made just for the occasion. Gone are the days of one-size-fits-all medals. Modern custom medals can be designed to reflect the spirit of each event, from fun runs and sports tournaments to corporate challenges and community celebrations. Shapes, colours, finishes and ribbons can all be chosen to match an event’s theme or branding, ensuring the medal feels like part of the experience rather than an afterthought.
Designed to Suit Every Style Custom medals are available in a wide range of materials, making it easy to achieve the right look and feel. Traditional metal options such as zinc alloy or brass offer a satisfying weight and premium finish, while aluminium provides a lighter alternative for large participation events. Acrylic and wooden medals are also growing in popularity, particularly for modern, family-friendly or eco-focused events, offering a fresh and distinctive appearance. Finishes can be bright and polished, soft and matte, or even antique-style, allowing each medal to feel truly unique. Combined with colourful, printed ribbons, the final result is an award participants are proud to wear and keep.
Personalisation That Means More What truly sets custom medals apart is personalisation. Adding a participant’s name, event date, finishing time or distance instantly turns a medal into a personal keepsake. For many recipients, these details bring back memories of effort, achievement and celebration every time they look at it.

Custom ribbons printed with event names or messages add another layer of meaning, making the medal feel complete.
Why Custom Medals Matter For participants, a custom medal is more than a reward — it’s recognition. It shows that the organiser has taken the time to create something special, which can make people feel valued and appreciated. This emotional connection often leads to medals being shared on social media, displayed at home or kept for years, extending the life of the event well beyond the day itself.
Sustainable Choices for Modern Events Many consumers are also increasingly aware of sustainability. Custom medals can now be produced using recycled metals, responsibly sourced wood and environmentally friendly ribbons
and packaging. These options allow events to celebrate achievement while reducing their environmental impact — a message that resonates strongly with today’s audiences.
A Lasting Memory Custom medals bring together design, personalisation and purpose. They celebrate achievement in a way that feels genuine, thoughtful and memorable — ensuring that every participant walks away with something they’ll treasure long after the event ends.
