HILLCREST CHRISTIAN COLLEGE

STUDENT UNIFORM HANDBOOK

UNIFORM POLICY AND

EXPECTATIONS RATIONALE

EXPECTATIONS

Hillcrest Christian College aspires to build a culture which aligns all community members to the vision, mission and values. Our students are seen as ambassadors for the College and the uniform is the most visible symbol to identify students. It is a community expectation that all students take pride in their appearance and ensure their uniform is worn in a respectful manner during the school day to positively reflect our College values.

The College uniform is to be worn correctly at all times on College grounds and while travelling to and from the College. Students are to be well-presented with their shoes kept clean, shirts well maintained and hair neat and tidy. In the MLC and SLC, boys must wear a black belt and keep their shirts tucked in at all times while wearing the College formal uniform. Students are not to wear casual clothing under their uniform that is visible. Formal skirts must be worn to the knee.

The Uniform Handbook has been designed to provide all Hillcrest Christian College students and parents / carers with the specific requirements of the College uniform across PreKindy to Year 12. This is to ensure all students understand our uniform expectations and arrive to College each day presented in the correct attire.

College Bag Students are to use a College school bag, available in different sizes. For further details refer to “Accessories”.

It is the responsibility of all staff, students and parents / carers to be aware of the uniform standard and policy at the College and for parents / carers to provide the correct uniform for their child. The uniform handbook is divided into the following sections for ease of reference: • General Uniform Expectations • Early Learning Community – Pre-Kindy and Kindy • Junior Learning Community – Prep-Year 4 • Middle Learning Community – Years 5-8 • Senior Learning Community – Years 9-12 • Accessories

Hats Students are to: • Wear the College hat or cap during breaks when in the sun, outdoor lessons, sporting activities and when participating in activities held in the sun. • Wear the College bucket hat to all major carnivals. • For SLC students, the College formal hat must be worn to and from the College when wearing the formal uniform. Students may purchase the sports cap for activities that are not House-based. (Refer to the relevant section to view our College hat specifications for the sports and formal uniforms.) The JLC maintains a “no hat, no outdoor play” policy during all break times. Specific hat requirements are detailed in each “Learning Community” section. Shoes and Socks From Year 3 onwards, polishable, leather lace-up shoes are to be worn as part of the College’s formal uniform. Shoes are to be kept clean and be consistent with the Uniform Policy for each Learning Community. For boys in the SLC, long socks must be worn when wearing formal shorts. Black socks are to be worn with long trousers. No Mary-Jane style shoes, ballet flats, shoes with buckles, slip-on, canvas, casual or skate shoes, are to be worn. Sports shoes may be chosen specific to performance requirements. All sports shoes should be ‘non-marking’ and worn only with the sport uniform.
