the difference

Preparing for College. Preparing for Life. Discover the difference a school can make in the life of its students when they are challenged to develop their God-given potential, when their passions are nurtured, and when they are encouraged to discover and embrace their identity and purpose in Christ. We develop life-long learners and effective communicators who possess the confidence and skills to become leaders – the very essence of the Hill Country mission.

your passion Co-curricular activities enrich the educational program. Through athletics, fine arts and participation in clubs and organizations, students gain real-world experience in teamwork, leadership, and organizational skills. They discover the joys of creative expression and accomplishment through sustained effort and regular practice. Confidence and understanding are gained by working and achieving goals. They develop self-discipline, perseverance, and endurance, and cultivate the social and emotional skills required for success in school, relationships, careers, and in life.

Athletics “Distinctive” may be the best word to describe the Athletics Department at Hill Country. Though our teams are always competitive and have a history of success, the highest priority of our program is the development of authentic, Christ-like character in the lives of our student athletes. This Christ-like character should never be underestimated. It is about commitment to a cause greater than oneself, personal sacrifice and playing through pain, servant leadership, and the tenacity to take on challenges and fight through adversity. Hill Country employs a core of veteran coaches who have been on staff for over a decade. The stability within the coaching staff fosters a resiliency and consistency that produces athletic success, facilitates spiritual mentorship, and develops life-long relationships. We invite you to become a Knight and establish your legacy at Hill Country. • Athletes encouraged to play as many sports as they desire, rather than specializing. • Historically, approximately 80% of our students play at least one sport; almost 60% play more than one. SPIRITUAL LIFE

your purpose At Hill Country Christian, students learn that you don’t have to be an adult to make an adult-sized difference in the world.” ~ Hill Country faculty member

Hill Country is a Christ-centered community. We believe that spiritual education is essential to the full development of every member of the Hill Country family. Not only do students learn about God in weekly chapels and structured Bible classes, biblical truths are woven throughout the teaching in all educational programs, from history and science to art and literature. Beginning in the elementary grades, students learn to compare and contrast secular worldviews and those of other religions with biblical worldviews and are encouraged to question and dig deeply. Spiritual instruction at Hill Country happens within the venues of the classroom, the playing field, the music conservatory, and in the hallways.

Chapel Chapel is a special time of worship at Hill Country. Students in kindergarten through 4th grade participate in dynamic and interactive worship. Students in 5th and 6th grades join in worship services that are contemporary and upbeat. Led by the chaplain and our talented Upper School Ministries Team, chapel inspires students to grow in their faith and understanding of the Lord and to apply the truth of God’s Word to their lives on a daily basis. While all students participate in age-appropriate chapels, our 7th through 12th grade students also participate in mentoring groups led by our faculty. These groups create an intimate, safe environment for students to share and discuss topics chosen by the mentor teachers or topics raised during chapel and school activities. Mission Trips Mission trips help our students to discover their purpose – in the classroom, in the community, and in the world. One of the highlights of the Upper School experience is the opportunity to participate in a mission trip to a foreign country. Working through locally-based non-profi t organizations, our students assist orphanages and schools with a wide variety of projects. Hill Country Knights experience the joy of serving Christ by serving others and receive a real-world education about how students in other parts of the world live. Our students frequently share that they are grateful for this unique opportunity and that, as a result of their experiences, their lives are opened to a new world of possibilities.

Community Service We not only help our students to discover their God-given talents and purpose, we teach them to put them into action. Every student, Preschool through 12th grade, participates in numerous community service projects throughout the school year. From making baby blankets for crisis pregnancy centers to assembling food and toiletries for the homeless, to traveling on mission trips to impoverished nations, kids at Hill Country are learning the joy of serving others. Students learn that regardless of their size, they are valuable and necessary members of the body of Christ. THE THREE C’s

Hill Country offers a dynamic combination of Classical education, Christian worldview and outstanding preparation for college — presented by devoted educators who serve as teachers, mentors and role models for all our students.” ~ Hill Country parent

Christ-Centered Community: Biblical Truths at the Heart of It All In this nurturing, Christ-centered community, students are given the opportunity to discover their faith in a spiritually enriched learning environment where Christ is the center of everything. Scriptural truths are integrated throughout the curriculum and all subjects are taught from a Christian worldview. At Hill Country, the Bible is more than a reference book; it is the lens through which students obtain perspective and understanding, allowing them to see the world in the light of God’s redemptive plan.

Classical Education: A Solid Foundation for Success Hill Country’s Classical approach to education is a time-tested method of teaching in which students learn to think beyond facts, acquiring wisdom and eloquence in the process. We teach students to think critically, speak articulately, and write persuasively. Our students become confident learners with the capacity to be creative and collaborative, skills that future leaders must develop.

College-Preparatory Curriculum: A Competitive Edge As a college-preparatory school, Hill Country provides a challenging course of study that exceeds admission requirements of top colleges and universities and prepares students to excel in college and career. Students who excel academically are eligible for Honors and Advanced Placement courses. Rhetoric classes which culminate in a capstone Senior Thesis give students a competitive edge in higher education. To learn more visit hillcountrychristianschool.org/about-hill-country
