HILL METHODOLOGY


Hill Reading Achievement Program (HillRAP) Overview The Hill Reading Achievement Program, or HillRAP Digital, leverages technology to support a teacher-delivered, individualized, small-group reading intervention for struggling readers. HillRAP is a mastery-based program that is ideally delivered in 45-minute blocks with a 4:1 student to teacher ratio. This virtual training combines self-paced learning with interactive, facilitated review and practice followed by personalized coaching to equip teachers with the knowledge, skills, and support to implement successfully. Upon completion of the training, teachers will be prepared to implement this individualized, multi-sensory, structured language intervention. IMSLEC-certified, expert Hill trainers and mentors deliver the highest quality training and coaching virtually, while trained teachers can deliver instruction in-person or remotely using iPads. HillRAP Extensions Preparing Emerging Readers for HillRAP Self-Paced Online Course Emergent literacy skills are the basic building blocks for learning to read and write. Areas of focus include the three major emergent literacy skills: oral language, phonological awareness, and the alphabetic principle. This self-paced online course presents targeted strategies for teaching these skills and guidance around how to scaffold instruction within a HillRAP lesson. This course is intended for teachers currently implementing the HillRAP methodology with emergent readers.

HillWrite Already implementing with HillRAP? Expand your knowledge of writing instruction with research-based HillWrite. HillWrite is an adaptation of Hill Learning Center's multi-sensory approach to teaching writing and includes oral drill and spelling components, allowing for automated data capture and more seamless integration into any HillRAP session! The program is designed to be implemented within a 40-60 minute class period with a 4:1 student to teacher ratio. Individual components may also be integrated into a HillRAP lesson. HillMath HillMath is a research-based methodology designed to remediate and differentiate instruction for struggling learners with and without diagnosed learning differences who are operating at a K-5 level. This 2-day virtual workshop provides teachers and support staff with strategies to develop conceptual understanding of math concepts and differentiate instruction for each learner. It provides teachers insight as to the structure of the HillMath components and actual tasks and resources teachers can implement during their math block. HillMath components include: Fluency, Number Sense, Review, Problem Solving, Curriculum, and Reflection. Participants will further explore math talk moves and ways to build number sense through number talks and games. In addition, teachers will learn how to support students’ success in solving word problems. HillMath shows teachers how to expose students to a variety of problem types and how to use and interpret student work to better meet the needs of each individual learner. This workshop is grounded in how to facilitate meaningful math discussion.

EXECUTIVE FUNCTION AND LEARNING DIFFERENCES


Executive Function Skills Live Webinar Executive function is the administrative system of the brain. It helps us pay attention, organize, plan, start tasks, and take in and retain information for later retrieval. For a student, such executive functions are the skills needed to be successful academically and often are areas of challenge, particularly for students with ADHD. This 2-day, Live Virtual workshop will help you learn how to explicitly teach executive functioning skills and integrate them into your classroom. Science of Reading Short Course Developed in partnership with The Big Dippers Meet The Big Dippers: The Barksdale Reading Institute, Hill Learning Center, The Reading League, The Right to Read Project, The Reading Teacher’s Top Ten Tools The course comprises five self-paced modules that can be accessed individually and completed in approximately eight to ten total hours. Each module has clearly stated objectives, explicitly written background information, useful video demonstrations, numerous graphic illustrations, and a variety of downloadable resources and links. Based on adult learning theory, each module includes activities to reinforce concepts, intermittent feedback through the use of checks for understanding, and a final exit ticket to ensure concepts are mastered. The modules are based on more than forty years of research, including several foundational conceptual modules that explain how reading works: -

Breaking the Code Self-Paced Online Course In this two-part online course, attendees engage in activities that will enable them to break the challenging alphabetic code for students. Reading Micro-credentials Micro-credentials support competency-based, research-backed professional learning by offering digital badges for demonstrated proficiency in specific knowledge and skills. Hill has developed six literacy micro-credential stacks. While not a prerequisite, these micro-credentials are a perfect follow on to the Science of Reading Bundle or Short Course. The Foundations of Reading horizontal stack develops competencies in the five core components of reading. Upon completion of the stack, receive the Hill Foundations of Reading badge. Demonstrate and develop more advanced strategies by taking a deeper dive into the vertical stacks: Phonological Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, or Text Comprehension. Important Information Customization Hill can create a customized professional development package for your school or district. Additional offerings include certification packages, alignment with MTSS, and virtual PLCs to deepen learning and understanding. Contact us to learn more.

Registration Policy Payment may be made via credit card or check/purchase order. Space in the professional development activities has been reserved to allow time for processing. Quotes are valid for 60 days from issuance. Registration will be confirmed, and participants enrolled upon receipt of payment or purchase order. Full payment is due upon receipt and must be received within 90 days of the date of invoice. Any individual or entity with an outstanding payment for more than 90 days after services have been delivered cannot register, receive a contract for, or attend any Hill professional development until outstanding payments have been received. Individuals or entities with a history of overdue payments will be required to pay in advance for future contracts and registrations.  

Cancellation Policies Asynchronous, self-paced, online courses cannot be cancelled once registration is confirmed and participants are enrolled. In-person or synchronous virtual workshop cancellations received in writing 10 or more business days prior to a workshop date will receive a full refund less any fees for materials already purchased and shipped. Cancellations occurring less than 10 business days prior to a workshop date will be issued a credit for an online course, micro-credential, or future workshop registration of comparable value that must be used by June 30th of that training year. Written communication should be sent to phoggard@hillcenter.org. No refund or credit will be given for failure to attend, cancel, or transfer the registration. Exceptions may be made for extenuating circumstances or emergency cancellations (sickness, death in the family, accidents or weather-related). Hill Learning Center reserves the right to cancel a workshop. If Hill must cancel, effort will be made to reschedule the workshop at a time that works for both parties. Otherwise, 100% of the workshop fee will be refunded.

Payment Payment may be made by credit card online or by submitting a PO request. Payment is due in full within 30 days of invoicing. Any individual or entity with an outstanding payment cannot register for, receive a contract for, or attend any Hill professional development until outstanding payments have been received. Individuals or entities with a history of overdue payments will be required to pay in advance for future contracts and registrations.

Online Courses All online course registrations are valid for one year from the date of registration. If not completed within one year, access to the course will be cancelled and no CEUs or refunds will be awarded.

HillRAP Coaching Sessions All participants in HillRAP training are required to complete one coaching session within 6 weeks of beginning program implementation. If not completed within 12 weeks of beginning program implementation, access to the Hill Learning System and HIllRAP may be cancelled.

HLS/HillRAP Digital Licenses A one-year software, curriculum, and online portal subscription is included in the HillRAP training. Once training has been completed and HLS access has been granted, the app subscription is non-refundable. If an administrator or teacher seeks to enroll in HillRAP but does not plan to implement, please indicate during registration and the app subscription fee will not be charged. App subscription must be renewed annually to continue implementing HillRAP Digital. The current annual rate, subject to future increases, is $250 per teacher.

Participant Substitution Policy If an entity has purchased an online course(s) or HillRAP package for a group of teachers and a teacher leaves or is no longer able to participate, another teacher may be substituted as long as the initial registrant has not started the coursework. Written requests for substitutions should be sent to phoggard@hillcenter.org. Workshop registrations may be transferred to another participant up to 48 hours before the start of the training if there are no required prerequisites or pre-work to be completed. Otherwise, transfer requests must occur at least 7 days before the workshop, and prerequisites must be completed 36 hours before the start of the course. Written requests for substitutions should be sent to phoggard@hillcenter.org.
