The School Today

House Reports Airlie

Aystree

Passionate, determined, fair, and optimistic are simply a few of the traits that you will find in every Airliean.

Last year, Aystree fought hard for the House Shield. We did extremely well throughout the competitions, winning many of the House events, and having a large number of participants. Unfortunately, on the home stretch Lindores took the lead, winning the House Shield.

We are proud of the diversity of our achievements across the Senior Years, both in and out of school, from sporting triumphs, musical accomplishments, and academic successes throughout all subject areas. Who would not want to be a part of Airlie? This year, we are starting as we mean to go on. We encourage everyone in Airlie to become involved in the House competitions, and events, to bring all of the year groups together to have fun, and to be a part of the BEST house. Our House name derives from the Earl of Airlie, whose family seats are located in the areas surrounding our School near Kirriemuir, in Angus. The Earl is the Chief of the Clan Ogilvy, the motto of which is A Fin, meaning ‘To The End’. We hope this year to become House Champions, allowing us to lift the House Shield! With Mr. Welsh and Mr. Downie’s enthusiasm, and House spirit as a driving force, we believe that this year Airleans of all years will come together, and help us compete to the best of our abilities in every House Event. We have been particularly fortunate with the group of Airlie first years this year, who have already shown us their support and talent in the House Choir competition. We are adamant that this will continue throughout this year, and the rest of their time at the School. By working together with all year groups, Airlie has successfully lifted the House Shield an impressive twenty-four times between the period of 1951 and 2017, proving that we are indeed a House to watch! From these successes, we have become aware of areas we can improve upon, and by doing so we strive to come first in all of the forthcoming House events, including the House Swimming Gala, and Sports Day. We are determined to succeed, and we know we will win the House Shield that we have all wanted since last claiming it in 2015. We will make Airlie great, once again. Airlie House Captains 2017/18: Harry Cheape, Rachel Flack. Airlie House Vice-Captains 2017/18: Jack McLean, Lucy Graham.

Once again, Aystree has had a very successful start to the year, with the First Year’s winning many of the Inter-House competitions during their residential trip at the start of term. It has been a pleasure to welcome the new cohorts to the Aystree family, and their enthusiasm, as well as numbers, at the House events so far will no doubt aid us in our future victories for this forthcoming year. So far this term, we have had the House Choir Competition at which we sang Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye. Fun was had by all on the evening, with everybody’s hard work being rewarded with extremely positive feedback from the judge. Our theme for this forthcoming year is ‘The Aystree Agents’, represented by our Agent Mascot, the values of which include determination, teamwork, and resilience. Furthermore, we believe that if the House can uphold these values, then we can successfully work together as a strong, united front to complete our mission of claiming back the House Shield. Aystree was also well represented at the House Swimming Heats, and as a result, we hope that there will be a strong performance at the next House event, the Swimming Gala Final. This particular event has been won multiple times by Aystree in previous years. Overall, we look forward to another exciting year, supporting the House team in the many challenges that lay ahead of us in our quest for victory. Aystree House Captains 2017/18: Blair Wilson, Alice Raitt. Aystree House Vice-Captains 2017/18: Aengus McCrimmon, Anna Sturrock.
