Their love affair with wine began while they were dating, and solidified with a wedding in Napa Valley over thirty years ago. In their mission to support the Auction, they are past Benefactor Chairs and hosted a Thursday evening Winemaker Dinner. While not dabbling in wine, Aarati and Peter support a variety of local charities including the Atlanta Ronald McDonald House, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and several educational boards. As empty nesters, the couple loves to travel, looping in wine tastings whenever possible. Aarati feels their biggest accomplishment is passing along their love for art, food, and wine to daughters, Sarah and Christina.

Burch and her husband, Mark, have been enthusiastic supporters of the High Museum of Art and the Wine Auction for many years. In addition, she has served with numerous organizations close to her heart including Fernbank Museum, The Lovett School, and the Atlanta Botanical Garden. The Hansons love to travel, and have enjoyed incorporating wine, art, and food into their expeditions around the U.S. and the world. Burch and Mark have two teenage sons whose travel lacrosse teams have recently taken the family to new destinations. Burch is looking forward to the 2021 High Museum Atlanta Wine Auction and gathering Together in Spirit with the Wine Auction community to celebrate art, wine, and friends.

Going from fledging attendees in the back of the big tent, to hosting Winemaker Dinners, to being an unwavering Benefactor, Caryl has now joined the Wine Auction as a 2021 Co-chair. Caryl and Ken have two adult children. One of who lives in the San Francisco Bay area, which makes trips to Napa and Sonoma all the more frequent and special. Most, if not all, of Caryl and Ken’s travel and adventures have included a focus in wine and food exploration. In addition to her involvement with the Wine Auction, Caryl has served on the advisory board at Skyland Trail, and is a trustee and current chair for the board of the Fernbank Museum of Natural History. She has also served as a co-chair for Zoo Atlanta’s Beastly Feast and Fernbank’s Timeless Affair. When she isn’t serving the Atlanta community, Caryl is active in her law career with a specialty in public finance.

A MESSAGE FROM THE CO-CHAIRS Together in Spirit

We want to thank each and every one of you for supporting us, the Wine Auction, and most of all the Museum!

The High Museum Atlanta Wine Auction is always filled with joy and excitement. While things will look different this year, we have worked hard to make sure the event remains joyful and exciting. The pandemic has changed so much over the past year, but one thing we are not willing to let it change is our Wine Auction community coming together to raise essential funds for one of Atlanta’s cultural beacons. As you can imagine, after the year we’ve had, the funds raised by the 2021 Wine Auction will be truly vital to the High Museum of Art. So, in 2021 we rally Together in Spirit in support of this Atlanta institution that has meant so much to this city and each of us individually. Below we've shared some of our favorite memories of the High Museum. As you place your bids this year, we encourage you to join us in thinking about the role the Museum has played in your life and our community. We are so grateful for your generous support!

love the Special Exhibitions the have had a strong personal first and fondest memory of " IHigh " Iconnection " My Museum brings to Atlanta. to the High ever since the High goes back to the early I remember rushing to the Museum to catch the Frida Kahlo exhibit before it closed. When I arrived, I found crowds of people, dressed in bright costumes, filling every nook and cranny of the gallery. It was then I realized I had come on Cinco de Mayo, and the Atlanta community had gathered at the Museum to celebrate with Frida. That experience continues to be one of my favorite High Museum memories and I am always amazed at the wide community support the Museum enjoys!

I moved to Atlanta after college. The architecture of the High’s campus, its amazing collections and exhibitions, and the sense of community that the High represents constantly inspire me. As the Recruiting Manager for Jones Day, I organized an annual visit to introduce our summer interns to the Museum. I treasure the memories of introducing them to the amazing experiences the High offers; and beginning to instill in them an understanding of the essential role the Atlanta community played in the development of the High Museum and that the High has played in establishing Atlanta as a cultural center. Seeing the Museum through their eyes taught me not to take for granted this amazing institution that we are so lucky to have right in the heart of our city!

days with my hubby. Ken was excited to play tour guide to this South Georgia girl, and took me on a Saturday afternoon date to the Museum. We rounded a corner and entered a gallery featuring the collection donated by J.J. Haverty, Ken’s great-great grandfather. As one of the earliest donations to the High, this collection carried so much importance and I was excited to learn how Ken’s family history intertwined with the Museum’s history, and how the Museum was a part of Atlanta history. I love that on that day the Museum became a part of my history as well!

HIGH MUSEUM ATLANTA WINE AUCTION Together in Spirit There’s nothing like the many challenges of the past year to put life in perspective. If nothing else, these last eleven months have underscored the importance of family and friends (and a good bottle of wine!). This year the Wine Auction brings us “Together in Spirit” to celebrate and support the High’s mission. As we continue to serve our community throughout this challenging time, please know that your contributions are more important than ever. They not only ensure our financial stability, but in so doing, also provide direct fuel for our mission to encourage the broadest public participation and community impact possible. Consequently, we encourage you to give at the highest level that you’re able, and we sincerely thank you for your support. We’re grateful for the partnership of the vintners and restaurateurs who have generously donated or joined us to share their incredible talents and tastes. I would also like to acknowledge the steadfast commitment and leadership of this year’s co-chairs, Aarati Alexander, Burch Hanson, and Caryl Smith, who worked tirelessly to make the Auction possible. My heartfelt gratitude to them as well as our sponsors and this year’s Special Guest of Honor, Dr. Madaiah Revana, and Special Guest Chef, Chris Hall. Thank you again for your support of the High and the Wine Auction. Cheers!

MUSEUM HIGHLIGHTS David Driskell: Icons of Nature and History Co-organized by the High and Portland Museum of Art, Maine, Icons of Nature and History is the first posthumous survey of David Driskell’s work, featuring nearly 60 of his vibrant paintings, prints and collages that layer observations of the American landscape with images and aesthetic innovations of the African diaspora. The exhibition celebrates Driskell’s enduring legacy and highlights the evolution of his practice over seven decades, demonstrating his inventive spirit and showcasing recurring motifs in his work such as still life, aspects of the natural world and iconographies drawn from his Southern roots and the Black experience.

Underexposed: Women Photographers from the High Museum

David C. Driskell (American,1931–2020), Self-Portrait, 1953, oil on board, collection of the Estate of David C. Driskell, Maryland. © Estate of David C. Driskell. Courtesy DC Moore Gallery, New York. Photograph by Luc Demers.

Conceived in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, Underexposed charts photography’s 180-year history through the work of women photographers. Drawn from the High’s extensive collection, the exhibition’s more than 100 photographs reveal the contributions of pioneers of the medium and the paths they paved for present day innovators in the field. Each section of the exhibition emphasizes distinct figures and accomplishments — from Anna Atkins’ revolutionary “photogenic” botanical drawings, to Margaret Bourke-White’s documentary look at life in Soviet Russia, and Zanele Muholi’s challenge of perceptions of race, sexuality and gender.

Bestowing Beauty: Masterpieces from Persian Lands

Ilse Bing (American, born Germany, 1899–1998), Self-Portrait in Mirrors, Paris, 1931, printed ca. 1941, gelatin silver print, High Museum of Art, Atlanta, purchase with funds from Georgia-Pacific Corporation,1987.14

Celebrating the rich artistic traditions of Persian civilization, Bestowing Beauty features objects from the 6th to the 19th century that range from magnificent silk carpets and detailed ceramics to brilliant jeweled objects and hand-calligraphed Qur’an pages. The exhibition’s sections explore universal themes of humanity including faith and piety, love and longing, kingship and authority, banquets and battles, and Earth and nature — highlighting the symbolism and craftsmanship present throughout Persian culture. The nearly 100 works in the exhibition come from one of the most significant private collections of Persian art and are rarely displayed for public viewing. SPECIAL GUEST OF HONOR Dr. Madaiah Revana Owner — Revana Portfolio

DR. MADAIAH REVANA’S COMPELLING JOURNEY TO BECOME VINTNER OF THE REVANA WINE PORTFOLIO IS AS UNIQUE AND INSPIRING AS HIS ESTATES IN NAPA, OREGON, AND ARGENTINA. His journey began over 10,000 miles away in a rural farming village outside of Bangalore, India. A passion for medicine led Dr. Revana to graduate first in his class from India’s top medical college, Mysore Medical College & Research Institute. Driven by his quest for knowledge, he ventured to the United States where he continued his medical education. Upon completion of his education, he began his own practice in Humble, Texas, where today he continues his devotion to cardiology and community. Dr. Revana’s curious nature and exploring spirit eventually drew him to the wine world. His appreciation of wine inspired him to travel the great vineyards of the world and he became committed to seeking out unique vineyard sites to produce exceptional wines that express a distinct personality true to the integrity of place. A lifelong pursuit of knowledge driven by curiosity and devotion to excellence, Dr. Revana’s accomplishments have been realized with over 45 years in the field of medicine and nearly 20 years in his fields of grapes in Napa, Oregon, and Argentina.

CONDITIONS OF PURCHASE & INFORMATION FOR BIDDERS Pricing The dollar figures shown on most lots are an educated guess, sometimes based on commercial auctions. In almost every instance where donors or wineries have indicated values or retail prices, the dollar figure shown by the lot is lower; in other words, more often than not, our estimates are a bargain. Bidding may begin below, and the final bid may be less than, but we hope considerably above the stated figure.

Auction Procedures Neither the High Museum Atlanta Wine Auction nor John Curley [“the Auctioneer”] are responsible for the accuracy of the descriptions of auction lots contained in the catalog. The descriptions incorporate, in some instances, materials or descriptions furnished by donors. Any trips or events comprising all or part of an auction lot shall, unless otherwise specified in the catalog description, be subject to convenient scheduling by the lot donors and the successful bidder. In addition, unless otherwise specified, purchasers of events are expected to schedule the event to occur within 12 months of the Auction. Please be aware that some trips and events are date specific and cannot be re-scheduled. Purchasers may not transfer or resell trip or event lots. • All wine is sold on an “as-is” basis, and neither the High Museum Atlanta Wine Auction nor the Auctioneer make any express or implied warranty or representation of any kind or nature with respect to any property included in an auction lot. • The Auctioneer shall have the absolute right to withdraw any auction lot, reject any auction bid, resolve any dispute with reference to any auction lot or any bid on any auction lot at any time before the fall of the hammer. No bid is valid unless acknowledged as such by the Auctioneer. • Bidding on Silent Auction lots begins on Thursday, March 18, 2021 and shall conclude at 10:30 pm on Saturday, March 20, 2021. • Any property may be withdrawn by the Auctioneer or the High Museum Atlanta Wine Auction at any time before the actual sale without any liability therefore. • The Auctioneer and the High Museum Atlanta Wine Auction reserve the right to reject a bid from any bidder. The highest bidder acknowledged by the Auctioneer shall be the purchaser. In the event of any dispute between bidders, the Auctioneer shall have sole and final discretion either to determine the successful bidder or to re-offer and resell the item in dispute. If any dispute arises after the sale, the High Museum Atlanta Wine Auction’s records shall be conclusive in all respects. • All wines sold at the High Museum Atlanta Wine Auction are subject to the provisions of Georgia law and the regulations of the Georgia Department of Revenue.

TIPS TO BIDDERS Please read these. Trust us — they’ll help. 1. We’ll spend more words in some of our winery lot descriptions on the people behind the wines than on the wines themselves, because in almost all cases, the wines are either outstanding or some of the best the winery has made. Don’t expect a winery to try to make friends at our Auction by giving us plonk. For instance, if it’s Cabernet and you like Cabernet, you can assume it’s not only good, it’s likely very good to outstanding. 2. Some of our trips or special events are unique, tailored for our Auction, and some of our estimates for them are off the top of our head. And the lots may bring one-of-a-kind prices. Some other trips or events may be commercially available in similar form to what’s offered here, but in many instances, they’re sold out and no longer available for the period described in our lot. We’ll try to be realistic in our estimates, but don’t hold it against us if we brag on what a similar lot has gone for previously. And remember, if you think you can get it directly at a better price, go for it on your own. 3. Our Auction draws bigger and better lots every year, and we’ve limited the number in the Live Auction. That means the Silent Auction has some truly terrific lots. 4. Etched or painted bottles are sometimes works of art in themselves, and, believe us, for some reason the wine in the bottles seems to taste better because the bottles are special. 5. REMEMBER, TRIPS OR EVENTS—UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED—HAVE A ONE-YEAR-FROMAUCTION-DATE EXPIRATION. 6. Listen to the lot descriptions during the Auction; they often have additional or revised information! 7. Put together a bidding group for the major events, dinners, or trips. It’ll help you compete in the bidding.

A Final Tip and Two Tips of the Hat We’ve bragged about him in several of our lot descriptions, but here’s another word of thanks to catalog co-author Glenn Irwin, the Wine Gnome. His research has provided us a mini-text book on wine regions, grapes, flavors, ratings, food pairings, and historical background. Final tip: be sure to look at all the info he compiled for the Rene and Jim Nalley Phoenix Rising lots! And a second big thank you to the High Museum Atlanta Wine Auction Chief Taster, Dick Denny! In 1993, Dick pulled together his Atlanta friends and his winemaker friends to put on the very first Wine Auction benefitting the High Museum. Thanks to his vision and the support of wine makers and wine lovers like you, it has become the largest fundraiser for the High Museum of Art and the largest Wine Auction benefitting the arts. What a legacy!

LIVE AUCTION SARA AND PAUL STEINFELD LOT 1 Twelve Bottles of Colgin! • Six-bottle vertical Colgin Cellars Cariad Proprietary Red Wine 2001–2006, Napa Sara and Paul Steinfeld have been longtime Benefactors of the Auction. Sara is a past co-chair for the Auction and is currently serving on the High Museum Board of Directors. Sara and Paul, for all you do for us, we raise a glass to you! We should also mention that they donate wonderful wine to the Auction, and this year is clearly indicative of that — not one, but two magnificent six-bottle verticals of wine from Colgin Cellars. Ann Colgin played a significant role in the establishment of the High Museum Atlanta Wine Auction by lending assistance in the early years including as serving as one of the auctioneers. We feel lucky to have Ann as a part of our story as Colgin Cellars turns out some of the most fantastic juice in all of Napa Valley. The wines gained cult status and have retained that standing for a period that is now approaching three decades. All the while, Colgin keeps churning out gorgeous wines that score in the high 90’s (when they aren’t scoring 100 points). Colgin Cellars only sells to select restaurants and to those holding coveted spots on the mailing list. Even if you hold one of those special slots, the amount that can be purchased by any single person is highly restricted. Tyschon Hill and Cariad are two of the three vineyards that Colgin sources grapes from.

The great news is that these bottles are all in their prime drinking windows now and will continue to be for a long time. Skipstone aspires to perfection in every aspect of wine growing and estate farming, drawing inspiration from the unparalleled potential and promise of the earth. Uncompromising in their standards of sustainability and treatment of the land, they are committed to nurturing the precious resource that is the 200-acre estate. You will also become the proud owner of a 6L bottle of 2016 Skipstone Faultline Vineyard signed by Philippe Melka. Skipstone’s Faultline Vineyard is an interpretation of a right bank Bordeaux blend. The awesome power and grace of Pomerol and St. Émillion have inspired them to build a cuvée around their oldest plantings of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. In particular, Cabernet Franc is annually the biggest voice in the blend; this gives this wine its incredible texture and complexity. The Faultline Vineyard blend is sourced from the loamy, sandy clay in the basin of Skipstone where their Merlot and Cabernet Franc thrive. The Faultline Vineyard is a classic wine, with decades of aging potential. Only a HIGH bid will give you the chance to skip town for Skipstone!

SCHWEIGER VINEYARDS LOT 3 Dedication in a Huge Way! • One 18L Schweiger 2013 Dedication, Spring Mountain District, Napa • Two 1.5L Schweiger 2013 Dedication, Spring Mountain District, Napa • Six bottles Schweiger 2013 Dedication, Spring Mountain District, Napa Thanks to Andy Schweiger for his generous contributions to our Auction! When Anton and Fred Schweiger purchased property at the top of Spring Mountain Road in 1961, neither imagined it would someday become a multi-generation farm and winery. By 1984, Fred Schweiger was selling Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon to some of Napa Valley’s finest wineries. In 1994, Fred and Sally’s son, Andy, made the first vintage of Schweiger wines. With the release of the 2013 vintage, they celebrated 20 years of winemaking. In 2019, to commemorate this event, the Schweigers donated a fun horizontal of wines grown on their estate. This year, Schweiger is stepping up BIG! As Andy noted with the submission of this lot: “There’s an old saying, ‘Go Big or Go Home!’” Today, you could go home with the biggest bottle in the Auction: an 18L Schweiger Vineyards 2013 Dedication! This single bottle holds two full cases of wine! Sure to be the centerpiece of any event, you’ll need plenty of friends to help you with it...not only to enjoy it, but to get it home and to pour it. The bottle weighs over 100 pounds! This is the only 18L bottle of 2013 Dedication produced, so it is truly one-of-a-kind!

Of course, we want you to be able to share the contents of this bottle while displaying your new cellar feature; this lot also includes two magnums of 2013 Dedication to share with friends and six bottles of 2013 Dedication to track the aging of your big bottle!

Lot 3

Who knows what it’s worth, it’s the only one produced!

LIVE AUCTION

Dedication is the flagship Bordeaux style blend from Schweiger Vineyards, comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec. All four varietals are grown on the family property, farmed by father and son, Fred and Andy Schweiger. The wine is made by Andy, who cut his teeth early in his career helping create blends such as Phelps Insignia, Château St. Jean’s Cinq Cepage, and Cain Five.

RENE AND JIM NALLEY LOT 6 Phoenix Rising Lot: Château Calon-Ségur • One 6L Château Calon Ségur Saint-Estèphe, Grand Cru Classé • Two 3L Château Calon Ségur Saint-Estèphe, Grand Cru Classé • Eight 1.5L Château Calon Ségur Saint-Estèphe, Grand Cru Classé • 55 bottles Château Calon Ségur Saint-Estèphe, Grand Cru Classé

LIVE AUCTION

Jim Nalley is a longtime supporter of the Auction. He has donated many varied lots over the years —  all of them interesting and unbelievably valuable. Many of you know that Jim’s house experienced significant fire damage this past year. The good news is that the fire did not radically impact his magnificent wine cellar. None of the bottles were damaged by heat. Some bottles experienced exposure to water which caused some label damage. Bottles have been randomly sampled from the cellar and none have been found to be impacted. Jim has graciously donated a large part of his cellar to the Wine Auction. There will be multiple Live Auction and Silent Auction lots for your bidding pleasure, we’ve dubbed them the Phoenix Rising Lots. Thanks, Jim, for your marvelous generosity. The first Phoenix Rising Lot is a huge vertical of Château Calon Ségur, a marvelous left bank Bordeaux located in the Saint-Estèphe appellation. The wine produced here was classified as one of fourteen Troisièmes Crus Classés (Third Growths) in the historic Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. "Calon," meaning a little river skiff used in the Middle Ages to ferry timber across the Gironde estuary, gave the name to this district which was at one point known as Calones or Saint-Estèphe-de-Calon. In early times, Château Calon Ségur was one of the original three vineyards in Saint-Estèphe and, in 1825 Château Montrose was a forest-land parcel belonging to the Calon-Ségur estate. By marriage, the estate came to be owned by Nicolas-Alexandre, Marquis de Ségur who also owned Château Latour and Château Lafite. Despite his ownership of these two First Growths, the Marquis said that "I make wine at Lafitte and Latour, but my heart is at Calon Ségur." The wine's label today includes a drawing of a heart around the Château's name. The wine has consistently received ratings from Robert Parker in the low to mid-90’s throughout the 41-year period covered by this vertical. Please note that several of the vintages contain a variety of bottle formats. At least 13 different vintages are represented in this lot. Bottles in the following listing are standard 750ml unless otherwise noted: 1970 — one 1.5L; 1982 — four bottles; 1990 — two bottles; 1995 — one 6L, one 3L, two 1.5L, six bottles; 1996 — one 1.5L; 1998 — one 1.5L, four bottles; 2002 — four bottles; 2003 — one 3L, three 1.5L, five bottles; 2004 — two bottles; 2005 — three bottles; 2007 — sixteen bottles; 2009 — one bottle; and 2011 — three bottles. In addition, there are five bottles of unknown vintage. So, all of you Bordeaux fans, this lot is for you! When will you ever have another chance to stock up on a quality single estate vertical offering in one batch? Let’s show Rene and Jim Nalley how much we appreciate their wonderful support of the Auction!

DAKOTA SHY LOT 7 Experience the Beauty and History of the Dakota Shy Estate • Three-night stay for four couples at owner Todd Newman’s home • Wine-paired lunch at Dakota Shy • Custom itinerary of wine tastings and Napa activities Dakota Shy was named a Rising Star in California Cabernet by Wine Spectator in 2015, and they are living up to that designation as they continually put out great wines with high scores. It was trust, drive, and experience that brought Todd Newman, founder, and Tom Garrett, partner and winemaker, to believe that together they could make their own mark on Napa Valley. After years of working under numerous winemaking legends, these two friends set out with a determination to craft wines that would rival the best of what Napa Valley had to offer — and to build their own world-class estate. Their story began in 2005 when Tom Garrett took a chance on Newman and hired him to work in the cellar at the Revana Family Vineyards. There, he worked under the direction of world-famous winemaker, Heidi Peterson Barrett. After years at Revana perfecting his craft of winemaking, he went to work for Hourglass Estate. He worked hard and saved, and in 2008 he put his savings into grapes, a couple tons of them, founding Dakota Shy with his friend Tom Garrett as winemaker.

Win this lot and experience the best of Napa Valley with a stay at Todd's stunning home on this beautiful and historic property. Gather three couples to join you and spend three nights relaxing and indulging at Dakota Shy. Todd’s home is situated just off the doors of the winery where you and your guests can enjoy the pool and landscape of this hidden gem. You will also be treated to a lunch paired with Dakota Shy’s stellar wines and the staff at Dakota Shy will work with you to build a custom itinerary of tastings at boutique wineries and other Napa Valley activities. Don't be shy. Bid HIGH on the Dakota Shy lot!

LIVE AUCTION

In 2013, Garrett, found a property for sale “in the heart of Napa.” The Pritchard Hill property was purchased in 2014 and is now the site of the winery as well as Todd’s home. Its history dates the 1850’s when George Yount took possession via the Spanish Land Grant. Beautiful redwood and magnolia trees dot the estate along with 1.2 acres of Italian and Spanish olives from which Dakota Shy presses their own oil. As Todd says, “There is so much soul here you can’t help but be moved by the beauty and history of the property.”

Exclusions apply. Not for use on holiday weekends or in September or October. Price of tastings at appointments may be at the expense of guests as the winery indicates.

This unique and special auction lot is brought to us by Sam Lando of Lando Wines and some great Sonoma friends! Sam convinced seven other brave wine brands to come along for the adventures. PINEA LOT 11 Tempranillo Anyone? • One 15L Nebuchadnezzar PINEA 2017 • Six-pack PINEA 2017 After three years of anticipation following its initial U.S. debut, the 2017 PINEA is ready to pour. This vintage is made with 100 percent Tempranillo grapes from vines 40-100 years old at PINEA’s 80-acre estate in Spain’s famed Ribera del Duero winemaking region. PINEA’s debut vintage 2014 made its U.S. market entry in the fall of 2017 and became an instant success due to its elegant flavor profile and lifted complex aromatics. The following year, PGA Tour pro Sergio Garcia served it during his 2018 Masters Champions dinner, which helped fuel demand from top restaurants throughout the world. Following PINEA’s immediate success and international acclaim, the team — led by founders Hugo Del Pozzo and Vicente Pliego along with winemaker and master oenologist Isaac Fernandez — went back to work to produce its next great vintage.

PINEA has donated an impressive 15L and a six pack to enjoy now or track the progress of your Nebuchadnezzar. Win these bottles and enjoy a little bit of Spain right at home!

Lot 11

$8,500

LIVE AUCTION

The 2017 PINEA is characterized by abundant floral and fruit aromatics, the result of daunting weather conditions during the 2017 season during which the Ribera del Duero experienced its worst freeze in 25+ years. Following meticulous grape selection, careful vinification, and 20 months of aging in new French oak barrels, the 2017 vintage of PINEA shows an abundance of black fruits, blackberries, blueberries, and cherries that integrate seamlessly with the smoky and spicy nuances of coffee, bitter cocoa, black pepper, clove, and tobacco. It creates a sense of marked depth, complexity, and elegant texture on the palate. And its opulent and majestic base reveals soft tannins and boldness in fruit. This makes it remarkably generous for near-term drinking, while also rewarding patient cellaring. Its deep ruby red color suggests a round, complex, and balanced wine that highlights the maximum potential of Tempranillo at its finest.

BRYANT ESTATE LOT 16 Lunch at 900 Feet Plus Six Great Bottles of Wine • Lunch and tasting experience for six guests at Bryant Estate, prepared by the estate’s executive chef • One bottle each of the 2014, 2016, and 2018 Bryant Family Vineyards Cabernet • One bottle each of the 2014, 2016, and 2018 Bettina Bryant Proprietary Red Blend Bryant Estate reflects the vision of proprietor Don and Bettina Bryant. After purchasing land on Pritchard Hill nearly 30 years ago, Don replanted the estate with 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, employing modern viticulture practices and nurturing a team of local and international masters of their craft. His efforts quickly established one of California’s premier First Growth wines, the Bryant Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, now among Napa Valley’s most acclaimed labels. The Bryant Estate property overlooks Lake Hennessy on the western slope of Pritchard Hill, a discreet enclave situated in the Vaca Mountains between Oakville, Howell Mountain, Rutherford, and Chiles Valley. Perched above the fog line at a 900-foot elevation, the steepness, undulating shape, light, and ventilation make Pritchard Hill one of the most dynamic sites in winemaking.

LIVE AUCTION

Visit this unique property with two other couples for a special tasting experience and lunch, prepared by the estate’s executive chef. The winning bidder will also receive six bottles of Bryant Estate wine. Your cellar additions will be three bottles of Bryant Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon and three bottles of Bettina, a blend of four Bordeaux varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The vintages for both wines will be 2014, 2016, and 2018. You already know these are fantastic wines, but to drive the point home let us point out that the 2014 Bryant Estate Cab earned 100 points from James Suckling. He stated it was the “greatest Bryant ever.” Not to be outdone the 2016 vintage earned 100 points from Robert Parker. In his words, “The palate is ethereal in its weight with a medium to full body supported by firm yet perfectly ripe, grainy tannins structuring the tightly wound savory layers and leading to a very long, fragrant earth finish. So poised, so classy, so Bryant.” The 2018 also received a 100-point score — three 100-point bottles in this lot! Don’t forget about the Bettina blend. The 2014 received a 98 from James Suckling and the 2016 earned a 95 from Robert Parker. With these highly scored wines and the chance to visit the estate, this is a lot you don’t want to lose. LIQUID FARM LOT 19 Two Nights on the Farm • Two nights for four guests at Liquid Farm • Tour and tasting at Liquid Farm • Wine-paired dinner hosted by Owner, Jeff Nelson Jeff Nelson founded Liquid Farm in 2009 with four barrels. Jeff had been in the wine business for 15 years working with Champagne and Burgundy houses, but this was his first venture on his own as a producer. Liquid Farm began from a desire to support local viticulture and honor his love for old world wines that have naturally high acidity which are not masked by modern day manipulations. To achieve the old-world qualities they were looking for, Jeff focused in on one of the coolest of all California’s AVA’s, Santa Rita Hills. Located in Santa Barbara County, Liquid Farm firmly believes that great wine starts in the vineyard. Because of this belief, they allow their wines to develop on their own with little intervention, minimal or no new oak, and no additives or machines to manipulate the wine’s inherent personality. While Liquid Farm strives to create wines as complex and serious as those from Burgundy, they aren’t trying to re-create Burgundy. They strive to show what California, and in particular this area of California, is capable of. This mission is supported by their winemaker James Sparks. Jeff and James met via a mutual connection at Dragonette Cellars and the rest is history. Now Jeff is inviting you to come learn that history and taste the magic he and James are creating together!

If you love Burgundian style wines and the beaches of California, this lot is for you! Expires one year from the date of the Auction. Must be scheduled on mutually agreeable dates.

Prior to the Keeneland visit, you will take a drive to Castle & Key Distillery — the oldest bourbon distillery in Kentucky — for a VIP tour and tasting where they are reimagining how Kentucky spirits are presented to the world. In 1887, Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr. built a new kind of distillery destination in Millville, KY. Inspired by European architecture, the site featured a castle, a classical springhouse, and a sunken garden. What he built became the birthplace of bourbon tourism. Prohibition forced the closing of the distillery in 1920. Over the next century, the property changed owners and occupants several times, eventually falling into ruin. In 2014, Will Arvin and Wes Murry, purchased the Old Taylor Distillery and restored it. Taking up Colonel Taylor’s sensibility for excellence, they source local ingredients for their Restoration Rye Whiskey, Roots of Ruin Gin, and Sacred Spring Vodka. The timing of this visit is perfect as there is much buzz surrounding the highly anticipated bourbon release in October 2021. Who doesn’t love a day at the races with an excellent spirits tasting? Enjoy a swim in the pool or hang out by the fire pit while sipping some wine. Winning bidders will enjoy a winemaker dinner with the Sherwin and Lerner families. After almost 30 years as a builder and developer in the Bay Area, Steve Sherwin was ready to make a lifestyle change. In 1996, the Sherwins purchased 30 acres at the top of Spring Mountain and began their wine country adventure. In late 1999, Sherwin Family Vineyards released their first wine, a 1996 Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon and grew from there. Sherwin Family Vineyards is extremely honored to be the only company in the United States with Federal approval to place the image of the American Flag on an alcohol label. The Sherwins decided to make their bottles truly special with a striking hand-etched, hand-painted design featuring the American flag and the meaningful words “In God We Trust” and “United We Stand.” The winning bidder will take home a 6L bottle from each winery — from the Sherwin Family Vineyards, a 2017 6L Commemorative Etched American Flag bottle signed by the first and second-generation winemakers, Steve and Matt Sherwin. Take home from the Lerner Project a 2017 6L Napa Valley RMS Bordeaux Blend — a beautiful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. Elegant, rich, and finely structured. Cocoa, hazelnuts, and coriander integrate with raspberry, pomegranate, and plum to give a long satisfying experience on the palate. You won’t go wrong if you’re the winner of this lot! Must be scheduled on mutually agreeable dates. Expires one year from the date of the Auction.

At Vice Versa, things are kept simple and focused at every level. Balance, as the name suggests, is what guides the philosophy, which is founded on the essence of what is inside, not the noise of what is outside. Patrice strives for Vice Versa to be a beacon of excellence in the wine world. In his own words: “Vice Versa has some incredible wine in the wine world. The kind that let us know we are on the right path in our pursuit of making some of the best wines in the world, and that we must continue to push ourselves to new heights. No matter what we accomplish, I will always endeavor to surpass it, for that is how I can best honor those who have come before me, and those who have yet to follow.” The 2018 Beckstoffer Dr. Crane received 100 points from Jeb Dunnuck. He awarded three of these wines with 99 points and one at 98 points. All the wines are scored 95 or better. These wines are sold out, so this is your only chance to snag them for your drinking pleasure.

LIVE AUCTION

Vice Versa was born in 2003 after founder Patrice Breton spent a few years working alongside the influential winemaker, Paul Hobbs. The hands-on education and experience he got with Hobbs went beyond skills and methodology. Introductions were made, an organic network of friendships with the industry’s most respected players was formed, and knowledge is continuously traded, which enables Vice Versa to craft the kind of wines that originally sparked this journey. A few years ago, Paul Hobbs completed his integral work at Vice Versa and they welcomed consulting winemaker Philippe Melka to the helm of the winemaking team.

You'll also meet Noah and Kelly Dorrance for a wine tasting. Noah and Kelly are the husband-and-wife collaborative behind Reeve Wines. The couple met and fell in love after college when they both returned to their hometown of Springfield, Missouri. Noah’s work and growing interest in wine took them to Paris, then through the Tuscan countryside, where they married, before ultimately moving to Northern California to build a life together. Enjoy dinner at Vallette on the square in Healdsburg. Chef Dustin Vallette is a friend of the Auction and has been one of our guest chefs at a Winemaker Dinner in the past. Vallette provides a canvas for Sonoma County farmers, winemakers, and artisans to showcase their craft. They serve high quality, yet honest food; offer warm, impeccable service; and house a collection of boutique, small production wines. To cap off your trip, join Mark McWilliams for dinner at Campo Fina in Healdsburg. SHELLY AND STEVE FRIEND LOT 25 The R’s Dinner for Six • Dinner for six at a top Atlanta restaurant featuring Burgundy wines from Shelly and Steve's collection Burgundy lovers are bound to clamor for this lot! The French wine region of Burgundy (aka “Bourgogne”) may be small, but its influence is huge in the world of vino. It is home to some of the most expensive wines in the known universe. About 200 million years ago, the region was part of a vast, tropical sea. Time transformed the seabed into limestone soils. These soils are the secret behind the zesty minerality that is the hallmark of Burgundy wines. If you venture into the vineyards, you can find chunks of limestone or marl (limestone mixed with clay), that contain fascinating fossilized sea creatures. The complexity of Burgundy can cast fear into the heart of even a seasoned wine pro but fear not — the region need only be as complicated as you want it to be. Winning bidders will enjoy an intimate dinner for six guests with Shelly and Steve Friend where Burgundy will be the star. Enjoy a multi-course menu at an Atlanta restaurant to be named later. Think Aria, Atlas, Lazy Betty, or The Chastain. Of course, Burgundy is full of amazing producers and none more revered and collected than the Domaines of Raveneau, Roulot, Ramonet, Rousseau, Roumier and Domaine de la Romanée Conti —  hence “the R’s dinner.” The Wines

Although the composition varies, all these bottles contain the same varietal blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec — a classic Bordeaux blend. Today, Kevin Hall carries on the winemaking tradition at Alexander Valley Vineyards. All the vintages have received ratings between 90–93 from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate or Wine Enthusiast, and most have received gold or double gold medals in various competitions. While Pinot Noir may be their principal focus, they also make very good Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc. They produce Old Vine Estate Müller Thurgau and several other goodies including Estate Riesling. The Riesling has minerality and a residual sugar level of 0.55 percent. Wine Enthusiast confirms the wine is dry and is a great foodfriendly wine. The wines were rated in the low 90s. CASS WINERY LOT 103 Double the Pleasure, Double the Fun! • Two rooms for two nights for two couples in the Geneseo Inn • Breakfast at B+B in the vineyard and lunch at CASS Café • Virtual wine tasting with Owner, Ted Plemons • Four bottles CASS wines shipped to winning bidder In 1999, as Steve Cass retired from his career of 20 years at Charles Schwab, he knew he wanted to move out of the San Francisco Bay Area. He visited Paso Robles a few years before and really liked the area and subsequently heard it was quite the burgeoning AVA. He was with a real estate agent and Paso Robles pioneer grape grower, Jim Smoot, when they came upon the pastureland that would become CASS Vineyard. In 2002, the man that built the new CASS residence and barn, Ted Plemons, and Steve Cass took a golf and wine tasting trip to Stellenbosch, South Africa to celebrate the completion of the residence and the establishment of the vineyard. During this trip they fell in love with the South African wine style and the ambiance of the tasting rooms there. Steve and Ted agreed to become business partners in starting a winery.

Two couples will enjoy two nights in the Geneseo Inn complete with a breakfast and a lunch. CASS Winery recently opened the new Geneseo Inn on their property. The Geneseo Inn is a luxury boutique hotel nestled in the rolling hills of Paso Robles wine country. Built of industrial shipping crates perched above the vines on CASS Winery’s 145 acres of vineyard, the experience truly allows you to “breathe in the vineyard views.” Modern appointments, architectural detailing, and an inclusive Estate Breakfast prepared by the executive chef makes for an unparalleled vineyard retreat. With chef gardens situated around the perimeter of the Geneseo Inn, this becomes the quintessential food and wine experience. Additional add-ons may include horseback riding, archery, cooking competitions, and blending parties. Once you return home, or before your visit, enjoy a virtual tasting with CASS owner, Ted Plemmons. Auction lot does not include airfare, one year to redeem until March 20, 2022. Geneseo Inn available Monday–Thursday.

The next day, they took a trip to the University of Stellenbosch in Cape Town, South Africa, and put up a job wanted sign for an assistant winemaker. After a short interview process, Steve found winemaker Lood Kotze who ended up being head winemaker at CASS until 2014. Once the vineyard began to bear fruit in 2003, the first vintage began. Two years later when the barn was finished being converted into a tasting room and the reds had aged a few years in the barrel, the CASS Winery tasting room opened its doors in May 2005.

CHATEAU D’ESCLANS LOT 104 9L Château d’Esclans 2018 Whispering Angel Rosé in a Wooden Crate In 2006, Sacha Lichine, son of the late Alexis Lichine, one of the most influential wine writers and producers of the last century, purchased and restored the Château d’Esclans estate located 30 minutes north of St. Tropez. The vineyards from this property are planted in the heart of Cétes de Provence appellation up in the rocky limestone hillsides away from the warmer flatlands. The key grapes grown are Grenache, Cinsault, Rolle (Vermentino in Italy), Syrah, and Tibouren. Sacha partnered with Patrick Léon, former winemaker for Château Mouton-Rothschild, Opus One, and Viña Almavia, to create a new style of Rosé using Burgundian techniques and fruit harvested from a high percentage of old vines —  the Grenache and Rolle vines are at least 80 years old. Whispering Angel has fresh red berry fruit characteristics with a floral nose, ripe and fleshy feel on the palate, and is dry containing zero sugar. It has a great concentration and ends smooth and round. Extremely easy drinking. No matter what style of wine you drink, everyone finds something in Whispering Angel that they can enjoy and can identify with (from beginner to wine experts). James Suckling gives it a 92 rating. Win this lot and pull out this showstopping, large format bottle at your next summer party.

Marcia and John Donnell are longtime Benefactors of the Auction and longtime wine donors, as well. Further, Marcia has served on the Board of Directors of the High Museum for several years. Marcia and John, we appreciate all your service to the Museum and the Auction. This year, the Donnells have donated six bottles of excellent Burgundy — four Grand Crus and two Premier Crus. Grand Cru is a regional wine classification that designates a vineyard known for its favorable reputation in producing wine. Although often used to describe grapes, wine, or cognac, the term is not technically a classification of wine quality per se but is intended to indicate the potential of the vineyard or terroir. It is the highest level of classification of Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) wines from Burgundy or Alsace. In Burgundy, the level immediately below Grand Cru is known as Premier Cru, sometimes written as 1er cru. There are 32 Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy which account for about five percent of the production. The Premier Cru wines contain the name of the village and the name of the vineyard classified as Premier Cru. There are 585 Premier Cru Burgundy wines which represent about 18 percent of total production. Consequently, these bottles represent the creme of the Burgundy terroir. It’s clear that Marcia and John have a good eye for Burgundy. Here are six great bottles that belong in your collection!

JAN AND JIM HARRALSON LOT 109 Five Large Format Bottles of Clos Saint-Jean Châteauneuf du Pape • One 3L bottle Clos Saint-Jean Châteauneuf du Pape La Combe des Fous 2010 • Four 1.5 bottles Clos Saint-Jean Châteauneuf du Pape La Combe des Fous 2010 Jan and Jim Harralson have presented an astonishing lot. Don’t believe us? Just listen to Jeb Dunnuck writing for Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: “Since taking control of the estate in 2002, and bringing on board rock star consultant Philippe Cambie, the Maurel brothers have been knocking it out of the park in literally every vintage. 2004? Gorgeous wines and easily at the top in a recent retrospective. The cooler, rainy 2008? Beautiful ripeness and texture, and again, at the top of the hierarchy. 2011 is the same story, and it’s amazing what this team has accomplished in all their vintages. Looking at this retrospective, we went through all their cuvées going back to 2003. Unfortunately, there’s no new information here, and this tasting simply confirmed what me and Robert Parker have been saying for some time now; Clos Saint Jean is at the top of their game and producing some of the most singular, hedonistic and brilliant wines in the world.” This cuvée comes from a single plot of vines and is based largely on Grenache, with roughly 20 percent Syrah and 10 percent each of Vaccarese and Cinsault in the blend. OK, but what did they say about the 2010 La Combe des Fous? They rated it 99 points! This stuff is just now on the early end of its prime drinking window and will remain at its peak for two and a half decades, maybe more given the large formats. Great lot, Jan and Jim!

MELKA ESTATE LOT 112 Melka Magnums and Private Tasting • One 1.5L each of 2015, 2016, and 2017 Mekerra Proprietary Red, Knights Valley • Private tasting experience for six guests at the Montbleau Estates in Napa Valley Founded by Philippe and Cherie Melka in 1996, Melka Estates crafts limited production single vineyard wines from Napa Valley, Knights Valley, and Bordeaux, as well as a more widely available CJ Cabernet Sauvignon blend. The rarely seen right bank-styled “Mekerra” is another blockbuster from the world-class winemaker, Philippe Melka. Win this lot and you’ll be one of the few on Earth to own this exclusive wine! Mekerra is a lavish, hedonistic bottling that will satisfy the most demanding lover of the modern style with a classic twist — wildly aromatic, opulent and silky, deep and complex with a finish that goes on forever. Mekerra is a distinctive name chosen as an homage to Philippe’s father. This is the name of a river that flows close to his hometown. This is also why blue was selected for the eyes on the label as well as the foil. The 25-acre parcel was purchased in 2001 as it was ideal for planting vineyards that could produce wines that would be truly terroir driven. The volcanic ash and clay found in the soils and the extremely high elevation at 2,500 feet is why the three wines made from this single vineyard in Knights Valley are unique.

Raj was born in India’s state of Gujarat and settled with his family in Northern California in 1972. He attended the University of California, Davis, where an internship at Robert Mondavi Winery inspired him to what would become a lifelong interest in fine wine. PATEL Wines’ first release was 100 cases of 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate reviewed the wine, scoring it a 95, and the magazine has scored the subsequent vintages at 94 or above. After years of research and cultivating relationships with growers, Raj was able to add limited-production wines to the brand, including a Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon, an Atlas Peak Malbec, and a Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc. Current total production is around 1,000 cases and sells out each year.

You’ll fall in love with this wine instantly from the inky, black pour. Winemaker Kirk Venge has delivered a classic “left bank” Bordeaux blend. Sweetly scented herbs, dried cherry, plum, hint of toffee, cassis, and blackberry preserve aromas all lift seductively from the glass. The mouthfeel is velvety and the rich, dark fruit glides seamlessly from the front to back palate, carrying a finish that lasts well over a minute. This is an exquisite wine of subtle warmth, flesh, and great density. Stuart & Co. has been making incredible, balanced Pinot Noir from Oregon since 2001. The style of his wines always shows balance and sense of place. R. Stuart & Co. doesn’t own a single acre of vineyard land, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t totally invested in the quality of their fruit. After decades in this business, they have developed close working relationships with lots of growers. They have carefully chosen their very favorite vineyards; the ones that give fruit in a wide range of textures and flavors. Each harvest they gather these lots of fruit from around the valley and thoughtfully blend them into wines that — year in and year out — stay true to their style. This auction lot showcases a great vineyard in the Eola Hills AVA. He has provided a huge 5L of the 2017 Daffodil Hill to add to your cellar. Rob has also provided a six-bottle vertical (2013–2018) to sample along the way while you are waiting for that bad boy to mature and for the opportunity to use it at a great party. Don’t miss out on this very good Pinot Noir from a good terroir.

RAMEY WINE CELLARS LOT 117 Three Magnums of Chardonnay • One 1.5L bottle Ramey Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard 2012, Carneros • One 1.5L bottle Ramey Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard 2012, Russian River Valley • One 1.5L bottle Ramey Chardonnay Woolsey Road Vineyard 2012, Russian River Valley This is the first of two lots from Ramey Wine Cellars — this one white and other one red. Robert Parker: “David Ramey is one of the few California winemakers who thinks in terms of structure, not just flavor, something that sets him apart from many of his peers.” David Ramey has long had one of the most impressive resumes for any California winemaker. He worked at Château Petrus in Bordeaux and for Christian Moueix (Petrus’ winemaker) at Dominus. He also consulted and worked for several high-end Napa Valley wineries. Of course, his first love is Ramey Wine Cellars, and he has built an extensive empire of Chardonnays, Cabernet Sauvignons, Syrahs, Pinot Noirs, and Cabernet Franc. It has been said that if California possessed a Grand Cru Chardonnay vineyard, it would be the Ritchie Vineyard. However, Ramey also turns out exceptional Chardonnay from the Hyde Vineyard and the Woolsey Road Vineyard annually, as well. Parker rated each of these 2012’s with 93 points and Vinous (Antonio Galloni/Stephen Tanzer) rated them either 94+ or 94 points. Pick whichever set of ratings you prefer; either way you get three magnums of great Chardonnay from an exceptional producer!

RAMEY WINE CELLARS LOT 118 Two Magnums of Cabernet • One 1.5L bottle Ramey Cabernet Sauvignon “Annum” 2010, Napa Valley • One 1.5L bottle Ramey Cabernet Sauvignon “Pedregal” 2010, Oakville, Napa Valley This is the second of two lots for Ramey Wine Cellars — this one is for the Cab lover. In the last lot, we told you that David worked for Christian Moueix at the famed Château Petrus in Pomerol, Bordeaux, and at Dominus in Napa Valley. He didn’t waste his time. David makes world-class Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Franc. David Ramey has one of California’s most impressive winemaker resumés and is a member of the small tribe of scholar-winemakers who systematically research and experiment how to make better wine. Of course, impressive resumés don’t guarantee impressive wines, but as our tastings over the years show, in David’s case the wines reflect the results of his careful, systematic research and experimentation carried out over the past three decades. Antonio Galloni and Stephen Tanzer, writing for Vinous, have each rated both wines at least four times over the years. The scores for the “Pedregal” range from 95 to 97 points; the scores for the “Annum” range from 93 to 96 points. Both show remarkable consistency. Ramey reds always get better over time. We think you should give these bottles a home in your cellar. You will be extremely glad you did!

From Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: “The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon 3D is a limited production, inky purple wine that offers big, chocolate notes intermixed with licorice, blackberry, black currants, and spice. The wine is rich and full-bodied, with outstanding concentration, texture, and length. The tannins are there but are concealed by a cascade of black fruit. This serious wine will benefit from several years of cellaring and drink well for 20 or more years. The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon 3D is a slightly down-sized version of the 2007. It is a big wine, rich, full-bodied, with a similar opaque purple color, loads of fruit, graphite, and licorice, and plenty of potential. It is a little less flamboyant than the 2007 but will probably age just as well and just as long (20–25 years).” Mr. Parker rated the 2007 at 94 points and the 2008 at 92 points.

SINE QUA NON LOT 120 An Indispensable Thing • One 1.5L bottle Sine Qua Non Grenache Eleven Confessions Vineyard 2016, Santa Rita Hills • One 1.5L bottle Sine Qua Non Syrah Eleven Confessions Vineyard 2016, Santa Rita Hills • Wooden Gift-Set box How’s your high school Latin? Sine Qua Non literally means: “without which not.” But a less tortured translation might be: “[that] without which it [can] not [be]. Or best of all: “An essential condition or an indispensable thing!” If you have ever had any Sine Qua Non wine, you know why it is an indispensable thing! If not, you need to buy this and find out why. Ratings for Sine Qua Non wines tend to be in the stratosphere. But it doesn’t really matter. They are nearly impossible to obtain. All of Sine Qua Non’s wines are exceedingly small lot productions. About the only way you can get the wine is to be placed on their mailing list. The problem is that no one drops off and the waiting time to be elevated to purchasing may exceed your lifetime. So, this magnificent magnum gift set is your opportunity to find out what all the fuss is about. But be forewarned, when these bottles go for auction, they typically command a price that is many multiples of their original value.

HOWARD SIMMONS THE BUCKHEAD CLUB LOT 121 Sine Qua Non Wine Dinner for Ten People Howard Simmons has put together a fabulous dinner for ten people at the Buckhead Club. He’ll provide the libations — Sine Qua Non wines — you just get to sit back and enjoy! Buckhead Club is the premier business and social club in Atlanta with great dining, impeccable service, private event capabilities, and much more. You can look forward to a seasonal menu featuring regional interpretations of current and traditional specialties, served in a stylish and relaxed ambiance. Sine Qua Non wines were born of pure passion and a wishful dream — to make something that is so distinctive and so delicious as to make it indispensable to wine lovers the world over. A lofty goal, but one they pursue with excitement. Although at heart they are a Rhône house where Syrah and Grenache play top fiddle, supported by Mourvèdre, Rousanne, and Viognier, they have an aversion to labels and tradition for tradition’s sake. So, they also grow non-Rhône origin grapes such as Petite Manseng, Touriga Nacional, Graciano, and Petite Sirah. Varieties they believe can work well on a Rhône canvas. Place the highest bid and experience this great wine-paired dinner at Buckhead Club! Must be scheduled on mutually agreeable date. Expires one year from the Auction.

WILLIAM COLE VINEYARDS LOT 123 Historic Moments with William Cole • Private tour and tasting at William Cole Vineyards' stone winery for six guests • Six bottles of 2009 William Cole Cabernet Sauvignon We welcome back Jane and William Ballentine to the Auction! Jane and William invite six guests to a private tour and tasting at their historic 1873 stone winery. In 1999, Jane and William purchased the nineteenth century ghost winery in St. Helena that would take them years to open. Having been shutdown since Prohibition, the property was deemed so important to the history of the Napa Valley that the county wrote a special historic ordinance to allow it to be reopened as a winery. By 2004, they completed restoration and opened as a fully operational winery. Throughout the project they began to uncover the incredibly rich history of the property and it became their goal to restore the original integrity of the winery and incorporate modern winemaking techniques. There is a lot of history to be told within those stone walls! Win this lot to delve into the archives of this ghost winery with Jane and William. In addition to the tour and tasting, the winning bidder will receive six bottles of their flagship wine, 2009 William Cole Cabernet Sauvignon. This vintage is in the optimal window for drinking and enjoying!

The winery is owned and operated by the deLeuze family, early visionaries of Napa Valley winemaking. Since 1999, ZD’s Rutherford and Carneros Estates have been certified organic by the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF). Founder Norman deLeuze believed that great wines are made from healthy vines, and today his original commitment to sustainability is carried on in the winery’s approach to organic farming. This unique lot is an 18-bottle vertical comprised of the latest three vintages (2015–2017) of the Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, a 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon produced with their finest organically farmed vineyards lots. These wines are an exceptional example of ZD’s long-held belief in the art of blending, and how different sites can produce a wine that exceeds its individual parts. Each vineyard lot is fermented and barrel aged separately for one year before blending, and aged for an additional two years in American Oak.

AZUR WINES HOGWASH LIMERICK LANE WINERY NELLCÔTE WINERY CHEF CHRIS HALL, LOCAL THREE LOT 126 Sunday Funday Rosé Party • Poolside Party for 50 couples at the Buckhead home of Burch and Mark Hanson, Sunday, September 12, 2021 • Rosé from Azur Wines, Limerick Lane Winery, Nellcôte Winery, and Tuck Beckstoffer Hogwash • Scrumptious spread from Chef Chris Hall, Local Three Thirteen lucky couples can get in on this party from the 2020 Wine Auction that has been rescheduled for September 12, 2021. Tickets purchased at the 2020 Auction will be honored in 2021. Gather your friends and “buy in” to this Rosé party hosted by Burch and Mark Hanson in their tony Buckhead home. Sip some of the best California Rosé around the pool and indulge in a feast prepared by Chef Chris Hall from Local Three. Élan Fayard founded Azur, the first premium “méthode provençale” California Rosé with their 2007 vintage. They became the first producer to bring the true and authentic provençale technique of Rosé wine production to the United States. Azur Rosé is comprised of grapes selected and harvested for dedicated Rosé wine production.

Years ago, Tuck Beckstoffer was called upon to make a Rosé for a special pig roast lot offered at the High Museum Atlanta Wine Auction and Hogwash was born. This lighthearted pink wine possesses superb body reminiscent of a light red with a persistent, beautifully concentrated finish. According to Tuck, “Hogwash is all about fun in the warm summer months. Who could deny that most of our favorite summertime memories involve cold pink Rosé, toes in the sand, body surfing, and a plate full of pork? The design is as simple as the winemaking itself, basic components, clear expression, and simple satisfaction.” Nellcôte’s Rosé is intentionally crafted from Malbec and Syrah from Bald Mountain Ranch atop Mount Veeder. You’ll find vivid aromas suggesting blood orange, tart cherry, citrus zest, and hibiscus flower alongside notes of red cherries, pomegranate, dry berries, and raspberry preserves. The wine is bright and focused on the palate, with a vibrant acidity and medium body. With an ethereal finish that lasts and lasts, this is a true wine lover’s Rosé with a South of France soul and a Napa Valley attitude.

SILENT AUCTION

In August 2012, Jake Bilbro, owner of Limerick Lane Winery, travelled through the Southern Rhône region of France and Provence. Jake came back from that trip committed to making “true” Rosé. The grapes are grown and picked specifically for this wine. His goal is to create a wine that brings the feelings and flavors of the Rosé and mussels in an open-air restaurant in Cassis to your home.

Local Three is the shared vision of Chris Hall, Todd Mussman, and Ryan Turner. The three met in the fall of 2005 when Hall was the chef at the Sundial restaurant and Todd and Ryan had just opened Muss & Turner’s, “The Little Deli that Could” in Smyrna. The three quickly became friends and over plenty of bourbon and great food, the plans for what would become Local Three emerged. We had you at Sunday Funday, right? Two hemispheres, one story. Inspired by curiosity and focused on excellence, Penfolds presents the next stage in their evolution: the California Collection. This new project is 20 years in the making! Cuttings were taken from the mother vines on Penfolds’ world-renown Barossa Valley Vineyard in South Australia, which contains the world’s oldest continually producing Cabernet Sauvignon vines. The cuttings were then planted in Paso Robles and Napa Valley and over the last two decades have been lovingly cultivated to produce the best Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz fruit that California has to offer. The California Collection consists of four wines, although as of press time the specifics were still under lock and key. So, be sure to check on this lot description when it goes up on the Auction’s bidding site to get all the information. These wines are already receiving critical acclaim and promise a new and unexpected profile from California Cabernet Sauvignon with a Penfolds twist. ROBERT PURSER LOT 131 Six-Bottle Vertical of St. Clement Vineyards Oroppas, 1994–1999 A fun fact first: “Oroppas” is Sapporo backwards; they owned St. Clement for a time in the late 80s and introduced this now famous “Bordeaux blend” in 1991. The winery has sold multiple times and is currently owned by Treasury Wine Estates who continue to make the label and control its inventory. Needless to say, this vertical is difficult to find especially since these bottles are signed by the winemaker, Dennis Johns. Oroppas is a particularly good, consistent wine year after year. It’s the signature blend and flagship of St. Clement Winery. Concentrated and dark in the glass you get a great nose of ripe dark fruits (black plum, blackberry, and currant) as well as tobacco, dark chocolate, and hints of vanilla and brown sugar. Full bodied with excellent acid and fruit delivering a long, lingering finish, this wine should please the pickiest of Cab drinkers. These bottles range in the 90–93 point range.

BALLENTINE VINEYARDS LOT 132 Ballentine Vineyards Vertical • Tasting for six guests (virtual or in Napa) Wine, like art, is complex and memorable. Every growing season brings unique nuances to Ballentine’s wines. As a craft winery, their job is to represent these special nuances and make the best wine they can every year. Enjoy a six-year vertical of Napa Valley courtesy of Ballentine Vineyards. This selection of Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon represents the strongest lots of each vintage. The Ballentine family has been in Napa Valley farming the same vineyards for over 100 years. Now operated by third and fourth generation family, times and farming have changed, but have no doubt, the wines have gotten better with each vintage. Ballentine Vineyards practice responsible and sustainable farming with a strong emphasis on quality over quantity. They make small production wines from their estate vineyards that are truly farm to table. These wines are not widely available outside of the winery, so don’t miss your chance to add them to your collection. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate scores these bottles from 90+–95+ points.

LEDE FAMILY WINES LOT 133 Cliff Lede 2016 Platinum Playlist Set • 2016 Poetry Cabernet Sauvignon, Stags Leap District • 2016 Songbook Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley • 2016 Cliff Lede Cabernet Sauvignon, Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, Napa Valley Cliff Lede Vineyards was established in 2002 by Canadian born Bordeaux enthusiast, Cliff Lede, following the acquisition of a sixty-acre estate in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley. With a focus on producing wines from estate vineyards, Lede tapped David Abreu, considered the best viticulturist in Napa Valley, to replant the vineyards. Lede decided to name each vineyard block after some of his favorite rock songs and albums — from “My Generation” to “Dark Side of the Moon,” creating what is known today as the Cliff Lede Vineyards “Rock Blocks.” The winemaking philosophy at Lede Family Wines has always been one of minimal intervention that allows the wines to demonstrate a sense of place. Enjoy a rare taste of Platinum Playlist wines. This set includes one bottle each of these three collectible selections: 2016 Poetry Cabernet Sauvignon, Stags Leap District sourced from the steep hillside vineyard of their Stags Leap District estate; 2016 Songbook Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley sourced from two vineyards farmed by viticulturist David Abreu: Thorevilos and Madrona Ranch; and 2016 Cliff Lede Cabernet Sauvignon, Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, Napa Valley sourced from the historic Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard in Napa Valley’s Oakville sub-appellation.

ANCIENT PEAKS WINERY CORISON WINERY ELIZABETH SPENCER WINERY FREY VINEYARDS MACROSTIE WINERY TRES SABORES LOT 134 Winebow Women of Wine • One 1.5L and one 750ml bottle 2017 Ancient Peaks One Stone Cabernet • Three bottles 2017 Corison Winery Cabernet Sauvignon • Three bottles 2016 Elizabeth Spencer Cabernet Sauvignon Napa • Three bottles from Frey Vineyards • One 1.5L and one 750ml bottle 2018 Macrostie Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast • One 1.5L and one 750ml bottle 2018 Tres Sabores Zinfandel Rutherford Napa Valley Thank you, Julie Johnson, from Tres Sabores for coordinating this lovely auction lot from Winebow. Julie poured at the Ladies Luncheon, so you may have enjoyed her wonderful wine there. This lot consists of 15 bottles from outstanding female vintners. Introducing One Stone, a new Cabernet Sauvignon from Ancient Peaks. One Stone is a tribute to all the women who move mountains, one stone at a time. The 2017 opens with classic varietal aromas of dark fruit, black olive, and graphite with notes of toasty oak and toffee.

Elizabeth Spencer Cabernet fruit is grown predominantly on the Napa Valley floor in the warmer micro-climates. The fruit displays a perfect balance of soft, ripe red plums and dark chocolate structure. It stays true to the Elizabeth Spencer style: balance, elegance, and grace. Frey Vineyards is America’s first organic and biodynamic winery located at the pristine headwaters of the Russian River in Redwood Valley, Mendocino County, California. At Frey Vineyards, they combine the best of modern and traditional winemaking methods to showcase distinctive varietal flavors. Through minimal manipulation in the cellar, they allow the wines to express the authentic character of the soils and climate.

The 2017 Corison Cabernet is described by Wine Enthusiast as “structured, evolved, graceful and complex, with powerful floral aromatics of rose and violet. Earthy and herbal, it tastes of rock and iron, with bright underlying invitations of cassis, tangy cherry and plum.” Wine Enthusiast gave it 95 points.

Opulent in the glass, the 2018 Macrostie Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast has a garnet color and ripe black currant aromas. The palate is dynamic and bright with vibrant flavors of plum, baking spice, and cocoa underscored by a firm, acid-driven structure and fine dusty tannins that carry through to a lingering finish. Wine Spectator awarded 91 point. Tres Sabores means the “three savory flavors,” or “tastes” in every glass — those of the vine, the terroir, and the spirit that good company brings to every table. Julie’s Rutherford Zinfandel, planted in 1972, is thriving thanks to healthy soil, regenerative, ecosystem-focused farming, and a hands-on philosophy to winemaking. This naturally fermented, single barrel 2018 Zinfandel is multi-dimensional, balanced, and full of verve!

Eisele Vineyard was founded as Araujo Estate in 1990 by Bart and Daphne Araujo; their first vintage was an Eisele Vineyard designate Cabernet Sauvignon from 1991. While the Araujo’s were new to the valley, their vineyard was not. The historical Eisele Vineyard had produced quality fruit for several wineries including Joseph Phelps and Robert Mondavi and was also the source for a 1971 Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon — one of California’s earliest vineyard designated wines. In 2013, the Araujos sold the winery, property, and brand to the Artemis Group, founded in 1990 by French businessman François-Henri Pinault, who incidentally is married to actress Salma Hayek. When they acquired the property, the 2012 vintage was in barrel but had not yet been bottled. 2012 was the last vintage that the wines were bottled under the Araujo Estate label. After the purchase, they changed the name of the winery from Araujo Estate to the Eisele Vineyard taking the namesake as their actual vineyard. Theses bottles range in scores from 89-91 points with the 2010 awarded 93 points.

The Auslese are not dessert wine sweet, but they certainly would be sweeter than the Kabinett. The Silvaner-Müller Thurgau is a blend of two grapes. The Müller Thurgau grape produces dry to very dry juice. The Silvaner can produce juice that is dry to demi-sweet. It probably fits between the Kabinett and the Auslese. All wines pair well with food, particularly shellfish and roasted poultry. Looking to try something new or already a German wine fan? Be sure to snatch up this unique lot!

This lot is perfect for our wine lovers who like to gamble. The three bottles of dessert wines or aperitifs are worth about $250 or so. However, they are incredibly unique. You can’t just walk into any wine shop and purchase them. The other two bottles? We have no idea because the labels were lost in the aftermath of the fire, but given the quality of the wines Rene and Jim have donated, this gamble could pay off big! So, this is a lot to help you understand your risk tolerance. Dare to be great!

SENSES WINES LOT 147 Vertical of Senses Terra de Promissio Magnums • One 1.5L bottle 2016 Senses Terra de Promissio Pinot Noir • One 1.5L bottle 2017 Senses Terra de Promissio Pinot Noir • One 1.5L bottle 2018 Senses Terra de Promissio Pinot Noir Senses Wines specializes in Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from world-class vineyards throughout the Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley AVAs. Founded in 2011, Senses is a dream-come-true for three childhood friends from Occidental: Christopher Lloyd Strieter, Max Thieriot, and Myles Lawrence-Briggs, who began farming their families’ vineyards at just 22 years old. In partnership with renowned winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, the Senses team produces outstanding single vineyard and appellation wines. Known as “the land of promise,” the Terra de Promissio vineyard has an ideal terroir for Pinot Noir. The soil, southwest sun exposure, hill elevation, vine density, and the wind and fog of Petaluma Gap allow the grapes to have a slow maturation and extended hang time. Robert Parker has awarded 89–91 points for these three bottles.
