Highfields School
Issue 36:
8 July 2022
Newsletter Parents/Carers Update Last day of term update – Wednesday 20 July The last day of term is Wednesday 20 July. No students will be in school from Thursday 21 July, due to the additional day for the Queen’s Jubilee being taken on the Thursday, and the INSET day on Friday 22 July. For the last day of term on 20 July we are amending the timetable for the school day to allow school to close at 1.45pm for the start of the summer holiday. A letter has been issued to update parents/carers where contract buses are able to collect from school at 2pm. Students who catch local service buses or Stagecoach services will need to make their own arrangements to get home. If arrangements cause childcare issues, please contact school and we will look at providing supervision until 3.20pm. Students will be expected to be in full school uniform and based at their usual site. Normal timetabled lessons will continue until lunch. Burgers, hot dogs and chips (including vegetarian options) will be served for lunch in the canteen and students can pay via the cashless catering system as normal.
Returning to school in September We would like to remind you that our new year 7, year 9 and year 12 students return on Friday 2 September (this will be our timetable week A) and all other year groups return on Monday 5 September (timetable week B).
SEND Green Paper - Have Your Say The government has published a green paper (discussion document) on the future of the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and alternative provision system. The Derbyshire Parent Carer Voice team (DPCV) are putting together a Derbyshire response with the views of parent/carers of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, evidenced through their survey (link below). Through this link families will have the opportunity to look at all the information, some of which is simplified from the 100+ page Green Paper document. Hot topics include mandatory mediation and a tailored list of schools. Have your say on these and all areas impacting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. https://derbyshireparentforums.co.uk/consultations/ Your views are important. Many thanks in advance for completing this survey. The Derbyshire Parent Carer Voice team
