Office Headquarters II Vol.2

This public building sets itself out in tangency along the length of an urban road network on the outskirts of Bayonne city centre. Characterised by a simple yet elegant form, it bows down to the majestic silhouette of the century old sycamore tress, which dramatize the site. The project, defined by both an architectural and landscaped composition combines different shapes, prism like mounds and planted surfaces to create a kinetic sculpture following the vehicular movement, which flows along side it. As well as having an intriguing volumetric envelope, the detailed designed façades of the building again add to the dynamic perception of this sculptured object. This external skin rendered rhythmic through the use of timber slats and small aluminium cladding panels the colours of leaves, changes in tint almost as if to reflect seasonal variations between spring and autumn. The attention paid to the buildings rhythm, colour and movement can also be found in the internal spaces through the creative use of timber

construction whose undulating forms and rhythmic structure are left visible to be appreciated. Despite the sobriety of the interior like the concrete floors and white walls the internal finishes are complimented by the warmth of the timber hues and brightness of the spring-like colours used in the signage and the furniture. The south façade designed in the same manner as a greenhouse absorbs the thermal energy, which then recycles within the buildings internal volume. A play of louvers assures the natural ventilation of this "greenhouse" in order to prevent unwanted heat gain. This use and incorporation of environmental methods throughout sets this project off against the French public building stereotype often perceived as standardised national institutions. The building itself houses the company’s office spaces, meeting rooms, breakout spaces including a restaurant and an outside terrace, public and reception areas and workshop spaces.
