Harvest Festival in Elsa
Congratulations to the City of Mercedes and the City of Reynosa for their sister city resolution that was recently approved. Welcome to Pct. 1 Presidente Municipal de Reynosa Tamaulipas, Carlos Victor Peña Ortiz, his administration, and guests.
WISD Literacy Tailgate
Precinct 1 staff participated in Weslaco ISD’s Literacy Tailgate held at Bobby Lackey Stadium in October. The event which celebrated National Family Literacy Month featured local authors, family literacy toolkits, informational booths, book giveaways, prizes, and more!


National Night Out in Elsa
Precinct 1 staff was out at the Alamo Downtown Central Park for their National Night Out Back to School Bash! FREE school supplies were given to students. Thank you to the City of Alamo for the invitation to participate. Great event!
Commissioner Recognizes Jesse Castillo
Mr. Jesse Castillo was honored in May for his exceptional work and dedication to Weslaco I.S.D. after serving the district with distinction and integrity for the past 40 years as a Security Guard. We thank you for fearless love towards your community, family, and friends and sharing your kindness so freely. May your retirement be filled with nothing, but joy and happiness surrounded by your loved ones!

Fallen Heroes Ceremony
Hundreds lined up for the 2022 Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Harvest Festival that was hosted at The Garden Pacific Trails in Elsa. Families were provided with a complete thanksgiving meal to include one (1) turkey and sides. It was a great event! Thank you to everyone who participated and all county staff that volunteered.
Mercedes Resident Receives New Housing
The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) awarded the Hidalgo County Urban County Program (UCP) with a Colonia Self-Help Center (SHC program) $600,000 housing contract. With this contract, UCP was able to provide Ms. Salazar, residing in Mercedes TX, with the replacement of her old, manufactured housing unit (MHU) with a new MHU. Congratulations to Ms. Salazar!

EEISD Women’s Powerlifting State Champs Recognized
Elsa Police held there National Night Out event on October 20! Commissioner Fuentes joined the community and officials in celebrating the event. Residents enjoyed music, games, food and some great prizes! Congratulations to the Elsa Police Department for an amazing event!

In May, Commissioner Fuentes attended the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office annual Fallen Heroes Ceremony. The ceremony, hosted annually by Sheriff Guerra, honors law enforcement officers who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty protecting their communities.

County Commissioners Court presented a resolution to the women’s powerlifting team of Edcouch-Elsa High School. They reached the pinnacle of success by winning the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association 5A Division 1 State Championship on March 19, 2022. Congratulations, Champs!
