Commissioner Fuentes Meets with Officials in Washington

Commissioner David Fuentes attended a groundbreaking in October for Mid Valley Estates! Located south of the Expressway in Weslaco, off the intersection of Mile 6 1/2 W. Rd. (Milanos Rd) and Mile 6th N. Rd. (18th St.), Mid Valley Estates will be the home to future families in the RGV. Affordable Homes of South Texas, Inc. is a community based non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life by providing affordable housing and related services to eligible families.

Thirteen libraries in the Hidalgo County Library System donated more than 1,300 books for youth to the initiative, Colecta de Libros Infantiles y Juveniles.

The initiative, which was promoted by Commissioner David Fuentes - Hidalgo County Precinct 1, benefits foster youth, 0-18 years old, in 50 Casas Hogares around the state of Tamaulipas.

The books, in English and Spanish, will encourage youth to read for pleasure and to increase their vocabulary and reading comprehension.

Donations include fiction and non-fiction books for children and teens, and a collection of oversized, illustrated story books to engage the very young.

In September, Commissioner David L. Fuentes – Hidalgo County Pct. 1, Commissioner Ellie Torres - Hidalgo County Commissioner Pct. 4, and officials from the City of Edinburg went to Washington DC to meet with the Department of Commerce, FEMA, Army Corp of Engineers, and HUD to discuss ongoing projects.
