ASHLEY REEVES

Welcome! Whether it is teaching an agriculture workshop in Kenya or answering the phone at our Nashville office, every person who is part of the Healing Hands International community believes we are doing something important, something bigger than us as individuals. At our core, we believe we are here to extend the love of Jesus Christ to a lost and hurting world, allowing God to use our hands to carry out His healing work. The Women Worth a Million program is one of the newest ways we are trying to implement this belief. We believe that supplying women with a job will provide a platform for self worth, self discovery, and self confidence. With a job, basic needs like clean water, food, and shelter are met and creativity has space to grow within the mind of a woman. Suddenly, she is able to explore the person God has made her to be, be confident in that person, and creatively reach out to other people who do not possess the same knowledge. We believe women will use their income to send their children to school. Every woman dreams of making her children’s life better and more enriched than her own. Since we consider education one of the most powerful influences in a third would country, we believe the Women Worth a Million program directly influences children and their futures. We believe women will pass on the things they learn. The old African proverb, “If you teach a man, you teach an individual. If you teach a woman, you have taught a village is the foundation for our Women Worth a Million program. Ultimately, the goal of this ministry is to help create small communities of women who know the love of Jesus and understand how that love influences how we should treat our neighbors. They will in turn, go out into their own families and larger communities to share this message. If you believe what we believe, I invite you to join our work.

2008, Healing Hands International has sponsored drip irrigation and other economic skills workshops for 60 women farmers in three villages near Saboba in Northern Ghana. These women also produce shea butter, and have merged their various economic activities. Healing Hands is working hand in hand with them to improve their shea butter quality and quantity by assisting with training and creating export opportunities for their product. Shea butter is a natural friend of anyone who wants to have young, healthy looking skin. It is a moisturizer and skin softener with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and healing properties. Shea butter also heals a nose traumatized by a cold or flu, relieves cold sores and chapped lips, and heals cracked and chapped hands and feet.

had a dream. Her father and husband wanted to help her dream come true. She had already learned sewing techniques from her mother, but Mohan, Prasanthi’s husband, encouraged her to take professional sewing courses. After finishing her sewing coursework, Prasanthi’s dad sacrificially sold his land to fund the needed materials, supplies and operating expenses to start the sewing mission. Prasanthi started her sewing mission with one machine. Upon hearing of her talents, a local Hindu Government run college asked her to teach her sewing course to their students. Her sewing courses would be taught in the church building and she would be allowed to teach women about the Gospel. Healing Hands International is now supporting Prasanthi’s ministry by investing in materials for her students and providing export opportunities for their beautiful work.

Healing Hand’s program harnesses the power of Christian women here in the U.S. working collectively to uplift and empower women around the world. Individuals, sewing groups, and ladies’ classes are all working together to make a positive impact on women living in impoverished regions of the world. By committing $5, $25, $100 or whatever amount they choose on a monthly basis, American women are making a difference in the lives of mothers, daughters, sisters and grandmothers around the world. All the money collected goes directly towards meeting the physical needs of impoverished women and their families. Ultimately, the goal of this ministry is to help create small communities of women who know the love of Jesus and under stand how that love influences how we should treat our neighbors. They will in turn, go out into their own larger communities to share this message.

women involved in the Women Worth a Million program in Mozambique are part of the Makua-Metto tribe. They call their group “Urerihana” which is a word in Makua that has two meanings. It can mean “to bless one another” as well as “to make one another beautiful”. The Women Worth a Million ministry in Mozambique weaves the two together: they bless women across the world by making them beautiful, and they in turn are blessed by others’ generosity. The women who are involved with this ministry have all been a part of a Bible study group that Martha Smith and Rachel Howell are deeply involved with. (Martha and Rachel are Church of Christ missionaries from Harding University to Mozambique, and have been there for the past 8 years. The ladies of Montepuez desire to help provide for themselves and their families, as well as grow in their faiths. They are currently making jewelry out of locally found seeds, recycled flip flops, and bags made from fabric in the market.

Hands International is excited to announce that the Women Worth a Million program will now be expanding to reach women in Haiti! This July, Healing Hands International will host a Christian Business Women’s conference there. Our goal is to have 200 women there! We will be working with women’s groups in Haiti, teaching them to be successful business women that run their businesses according to scriptural principals. As soon as they start making their products, we will sell them in the States. Roberta Edwards, a missionary, the 2011 Woman of Hope, and mother to 17 children in Port-au-Prince, will be working with and supporting these women’s groups on a regular basis. To begin our work there, Healing Hands International along with the Haitian women who we will be working with, participated in 30 days of prayer, asking the Lord to open our hearts to the scriptural principals of obedience, trust, right living, caring for self and others, thankfulness, and prayer. Stay tuned for more updates about our work in Haiti!
