February 2016

~ Habitat on the Hill ~ Our Development Director, Angela Birch Cox, traveled to Washington, DC this month with Habitat staff, board members, homeowners, volunteers and youth from across the country, to discuss Habitat’s legislative priorities and meet with lawmakers and their staffs on Capitol Hill. Cox met with U.S. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (Texas 18th Congressional District), and with legislative assistants to Congressmen Gene Green, Al Green and Senator John Cornyn. She asked for their support on housing finance reform, programs that help Habitat acquire land and build infrastructure, and introduced the Solid Ground Program, through which Habitat will help countless families around the world secure title to their land. “It is so important to let our elected officials know that we appreciate their support and to keep them updated on our accomplishments and upcoming initiatives” Cox stated. “Our program has bi-partisan support, so we experienced the best of our government at work. What an amazing experience!”
