June 2015

~A Warm Welcome to our New Partner Families~ On June 2, 2015 Houston Habitat for Humanity welcomed 28 new Partner Families into our program. This celebration is just the beginning of their journey to homeownership. For the next few months these families will work alongside our volunteers to build their homes and the homes of their neighbors and participate in financial education classes to complete their 300 “sweat equity hours. Congratulations to our new Partner Families!

~Lowe’s Training House~ For two weeks in June, Houston Habitat for Humanity will partner with Lowe’s Home Improvement Store and build a Habitat Home alongside each other from building the walls to putting the last shingle on the roof. Angela Birch Cox, Houston Habitat Development Director, explains, “We at Houston Habitat are excited and grateful that we are taking our longstanding partnership with the Lowe’s team to this next level. The Lowe’s Houston Habitat Training House is the perfect way for Lowe’s greater Houston area associates to combine their passion to make a difference in our community with their passion to serve their customers!”

Mike Bextermueller, Construction Superintendent, explains how to measure and cut for a wall build.

While building, Houston Habitat will offer our expertise to Lowe’s team members on home building; training they will take back to their stores to help their customers build and remodel their own homes! Lowe’s volunteers complete the roof trusses on home
