Materials In order to complete the lesson, the teacher should have: • “The Flame of Peace: An Tale of the Aztecs” by Deborah Nourse Lattimore
Read “The Flame of Peace” by Deborah Nourse Lattimore to the class while showing some of the pictures in the book.
• Use eye contact as much as possible. • Use dramatic voice while reading and fluctuations in tone to keep students interested.
After reading the story, ask the following questions and make sure all students have a chance to talk:
• What surprised you about the story? • Do you think this could be true? • How is this similar to other stories you have read? How is it diﬀerent? • Why do you think ancient cultures have stories like these? What might it explain? • What does this tell us about the Aztec people?
