EuroHedge Summit 2013 Chris Hohn of The Children’s Investment Fund, Martin Hughes of Toscafund and Taylor O’Malley of Balyasny Asset Management are to be keynote speakers at this year’s EuroHedge Summit, in Paris on 21-23 May. Widely regarded as an iconic figure in the European hedge fund world, Hohn is founder, managing partner and portfolio manager of TCI, a global value-based, fundamental investment manager with a concentrated portfolio that aims to bring a long-term, owner-oriented investing philosophy to the public markets. Hughes is founder of Toscafund, another pioneering player in the European hedge fund world, established in 2000 and now part of Old Oak Group, a large, well capitalised, financial services business. We are pleased to announce this year’s final keynote will be Taylor O’Malley, the co-founding partner and chief risk officer at Balyasny Asset Management. We have a number of new editions to the programme. Panellists will include EuroHedge Awards winners Karsten Schröder of Amplitude, Loïc Fery of Chenevari, Jonathan Lourie of Cheyne and Bruno Usai of Pelagus. They will join industry heavyweights such as Sir Paul Ruddock of Lansdowne Partners, Theo Phanos of CapeView, David Morant of CQS and Simon Waxley of Whitebox Advisors. Sessions will focus primarily on managers and strategies, including various panels on macro, quant, equity and credit topics. Chris Hohn is founder, managing partner and portfolio manager of The Children’s Investment Fund Management (UK) LLP (TCI). TCI is a global value-based, fundamental investment manager with a concentrated portfolio aiming to bring a long-term, owner-oriented investing philosophy to the public markets. Chris is based in London and has more than 20 years of experience in the investment industry and has managed equity portfolios for over 15 years. Chris is also co-founder of The Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), a UKbased charity dedicated to improving the lives of children in poverty in developing countries.

Martin Hughes is a financial business entrepreneur. Martin is one of Europe’s longest serving managers of absolute return funds covering the period since 1997. Martin is founder and owner of Old Oak Holdings, a financial services holding company that encompassed a retail fund management business (Cheviot, sold January 2013), private equity (Penta) and an institutional fund management business (Toscafund). Total funds managed in the Old Oak Group as at December 2012 totalled £5.2 billion. Martin founded Toscafund Asset Management LLP in 2000.

Geraud Charpin is portfolio manager of BlueBay Credit Alpha Long Short fund. The fund actively trades both relative value and directional long and short ideas. Cheyne Capital Management

Jonathan Lourie is the founder and chief executive officer of Cheyne Capital Management. Under his leadership, Cheyne Capital has grown to become one of the largest alternative investment managers in Europe. The firm’s main areas of expertise include corporate credit, real estate debt, event driven and equity and equity-linked investing.

George Papamarkakis

North Asset Management

George Papamarkakis is a co-founder, managing partner and chief investment officer at North Asset Management (North). North is an alternative asset management company based in London and founded in 2002. George manages North’s flagship fund the MaxQ Fund, an uncorrelated alpha macro fund, which has won several industry awards, most recently Best Macro Fund 2011 at the EuroHedge Awards.

Theo Phanos is co-founder and chief investment officer at CapeView. He has been managing the firm’s credit and distressed business since its inception in 2001. Before this, he worked at Bankers Trust, Lehman Brothers and the high yield and distressed group at Deutsche Bank.

Lawrence Powell

Utah State Retirement Fund

Lawrence Powell is deputy chief investment officer at the Utah State Retirement Fund (URS). Lawrence is ultimately responsible for the oversight and management of the investment team, analysing deals and investing in all global public and private market asset classes. The URS is a public pension plan managing the retirement benefits of more than 150,000 public employees in the State of Utah.

Lucrezia Reichlin

Now-Casting Economics

Lucrezia Reichlin is professor of Economics at London Business School. She is also co-founder of Now-Casting Economics Ltd, an economic forecasting start-up, publishing real-time ‘now-casts’ of current quarter GDP growth for the world’s major economies, using econometric techniques developed in her academic research.

Erich Schlaikjer

Cantab Capital Partners

Erich Schlaikjer is chief technology officer and partner at Cantab Capital Partners. He is a ‘hands on’ programmer who creates the software tools which help Cantab’s quantitative researchers develop profitable strategies as efficiently and effectively as possible. Erich manages a team of programmers at Cantab Capital Partners and the technical relationship with its service providers.

Hilmi Ünver

Notz Stucki


Hilmi Ünver is a partner and head of alternative investments at Notz Stucki. He is also a member of the investment committee of Haussmann Holdings, a fund of funds that that was co-founded by Notz Stucki in 1974. Founded in 1964, Notz Stucki & Cie is one of the pioneering firms in alternative investing and multi-management. It is one of the leading and fully independent asset management groups in Europe with a global presence and assets in excess of $6 billion.

John Williams

Armour Group Holdings

John Williams co-founded Armour Group Holdings Limited, a specialist property and casualty insurance company in 2007. John has over 30 years of worldwide insurance and reinsurance industry experience.
