Based on the success of Clairemont’s award-winning Academy of Business, in 2014, together with the Moxie Foundation, led by founder and education visionary, Irwin Zahn, the San Diego Unified School District, ConnectEd –The California Center for College and Career, and Clairemont staff, the school experienced a total transformation by launching three additional academies in 2015.

With a rigorous curriculum that focuses on a wide variety of business environments, such as finance, entrepreneurship, stock market, real estate and marketing, and new state-of-the-art facilities including a mock trading floor, the Academy of Business encourages students to think innovatively and creatively to become future leaders and problem solvers. Clairemont’s Academy of Business partners include local companies from the greater San Diego community. Our partners offer student internships and job shadow opportunities, providing students with real-world learning opportunities.

Students in the Academy of Engineering Design are encouraged to express inner creativity to create, build, or reverse-engineer projects. The pathway course of study uses Project Lead the Way curriculum and focuses on computer-aided design, prototyping, the manufacturing process, robotics and electronics. Academy students collaborate with and learn from Clairemont engineering industry partners as they provide leadership and expertise to inspire students to innovate, design and build solutions to address current and future global challenges.

With a focus on health, medicine and biomedical life science, the Academy of Health & Medical Sciences provides students with a comprehensive, engaging and relevant Project Lead the Way curriculum, allowing them to explore the wide array of careers and advanced degrees offered through the medical and biotechnology fields. Students learn about the processes, structures, and connections of the human body systems through hands-on experiments and investigation of case studies. Nationally renowned industry partners work one-on-one with students both in the classroom as well as in clinical settings, allowing students to apply skills learned inside the classroom to real-world situations.

Integrating the use of technology in all classes, students in the Academy of Information Technology learn advanced computer science skills including software and system development, mobile app design, coding and programming, game design and simulation, and more. Written by the University of California, computer science courses provide students with analytical and logical skills to understand computational logic and processes in basic programming, and how to apply these skills to design computer animations in an interactive environment. Industry partners offer student internships and job shadow opportunities.
