The FlexField Concept

FlexField – the most flexible cross connection system • • • •

Handles coax, pair and opto cables. Meets telecom standard G.703. Handles data – Ethernet Cat 6. Built on modules – fits small as well as big systems.

WIDE VARIETY OF CABLES AND CONNECTORS The module is the basic unit. There are modules to handle a variety of cables and connectors.

A LOW COST MIX OF MODULES FOR SMALL OR BIG INSTALLATIONS Modules are hosted in the subrack, with five sizes of subracks available. Different types of modules for different connectors/cables can be mounted in the same subrack. Start with the number of modules needed to partly fill the subrack and then add modules as needed.

PROBLEM-FREE ACCESS TO ALL CONNECTORS, WITH CABINETS TO THE WALL Due to the patented cable management in the module there is always access to all connections. The cable management creates a built in cable slack that allows the module to always be extracted a minimum of 30 cm from it’s original position – even at full installation. The fiber optic modules have additional movement – they can be extracted 1.5 m. All terminations are accessible from the front. This means that the cabinets can be placed tightly side by side to a wall.

19” AND ETSI RACKS/CABINETS – ALL TYPES The subracks have mounting ears adjustable in width and depth.

SAFE MAINTENANCE AND QUICK ACCESS There is no stress on the connectors when moving the modules, as the cables are mechanically fixed to the modules.

PATCH CORDS ARE WELL PROTECTED Patch cords are strictly managed and well protected. The patch cords from each module enter through their own slot into the cable shelf. The cable shelf has a foldable front, which allows quick access.

Racks & Subracks HIGH DENSITY, SERVICE FRIENDLY PATCH CORD MANAGEMENT Racks • Designed for large amounts of patch cords. • Patch cord crossing between racks is possible at the top. No need for threading patch cords. All passages are open. Bending radius min. 30 mm is guaranteed. • At the top of the rack there is a built in cable duct. This replaces the overhead mounted cable duct. • The rack has surface treatment with very good electrical conductivity. • The rack has a grounding rail for 10 connections.

Subracks • The subrack comes in 5 sizes. Number of modules 1–10 pcs, height 1–5u. • All subracks give front access to all connection points, which makes this system service friendly.

FlexField Rack 2000 Part no. 5211 Rack with 19” profiles. Height 2050, width 600, depth 400. Inside height 42u. Cable management handles up to 4000 patch cords. No need for threading patch cords. All passages ore open. Bending radius min. 30 mm is guaranteed. Surface treatment with very good electrical conductivity. Grounding rail for 10 connections. When 2 racks are positioned side by side with center distance 800 mm there will be a storage for patch cord overlength. This can handle up to 4 meters overlength.

DDF Modules & Accessories HIGH PACKING DENSITY, SERVICE FRIENDLY High packing density is easily met. More than 400 coax systems or more than 800 pair cable systems can be installed in one rack/cabinet. Still all connections will be accesible and cross connection work can easily be performed.

Transmission Requirements – G.703 All signals pass through multi-layer impedance controlled PCB’s and connectors of correct impedance. This gives good signal integrity and the transmission requirements in G.703 are met. The SWR budget of your link will not be ruined by FlexField.

EMC All PCB’s have signal at the inner layers and shielding at the outer layers. The cable shields are terminated at low impedance. This result in low emission and high immunity. EMC-standards like directives 89/336/EEC, 92/331 EEC are fulfilled.

Surge Pulse In some telecom applications there is a 500V surge pulse requirement. All FlexField modules fulfill this. They are tested according to IEC 61000-4-5.

Ethernet Modules & Accessories THE PATCH PANEL High density performance, more than 800 systems in a standard rack. Yet service friendly, the patch cords are strictly organized and all connections will be accesible so crossconnection work can easily be performed. Choose between modules for Cat5e or Cat6, STP or UTP. You may also terminate the fiber optic riser cable and the PABX in the same patch panel. For fiber optics see section ODF.

The work area outlet 8 RJ45 for 1–4 workplaces. Choose between modules for Cat5e or Cat6, STP or UTP.

DC-current in cable shield In an STP cabling there is always risk for unwanted DC-current in the shield due to varying ground potentials in the building. This causes a current to flow in the cable shields and this may give lower capacity in your network. To avoid this there is a module with built in dc-barrier, 5100/17.

ODF Modules & Accessories

ODF FOR TRUNK NETWORKS, FIBER TO THE X, LAN Thanks to its modular design FlexField makes an ODF for a variety of applications. The FlexField fiber optic module handles 12 fibers. It holds splices, both single fiber and ribbon fiber and it holds fanouts. Break-out cable and micro ducts also fit. Versions with SC adapters and FC adapters are available. An ODF from twelve to thousands of fibers can be built.

Splicing Splices of various sizes are accepted. Defined positions give good overview. Minimum bending radius is guaranteed.

Cleaning The front with the adapters can be pulled out. This makes it possible to clean the inner connectors.

Service Friendly The fibers enter the module through a flexible tube. This is of length 1.5 meter. This gives the benefit that the splicing work can be done with the module conviniently placed on a working bench, out of the cabinet. When inserting the module in the cabinet, the flexible tube is rolled up and stored in the module.

Joint The cable is coupled to the flexible tube by a joint. To the left is shown Joint 48, handling a cable with maximum 48 fibers.

Break Out Cable There is also a module for cables without splices and having low bending radius – being able to be brought directly into the module: break out cable; patch cord cable. No joint is used.
