The professorship for Waste and Resource Management is attached to the Institute for Landscape Ecology and Resource Management (ILR) at the Justus-Liebig-University Gießen since 1995. Its integration in the "Agricultural Science, Nutrional Science and Environmental Management" department offers the possibility to analyse the utilisation cycles of vegetable and animal food.

Objectives In its teaching and research, the professorship pays particular attention to the accumulation of pollutants in the recovery substance cycle and the resilience processes of material cycles by focussing on the analysis of chemical and microbiological processes in order to establish a sustainable mass flow management.

Tasks The main focus of the professorship for Waste and Resource Management lies on the analysis, optimisation and, where applicable, the closure of material cycles. It also deals with current issues such as resource and cost efficiency or costs-by-cause charge systems in the waste industry. In this context, the repository system as well as site assessment and site decontamination are important application fields. The ecological evaluation and optimisation of production processes for manufactoring enterprises and service providers also belongs to its portfolio.
