WHO ARE WE?

On April 1, 1989, two sisters, Debbie Herrington and Cindy Stone, turned their dreams into reality and opened the first HerringStone's Boutique in Monroe, Louisiana. The sisters dreamt of bringing innovative and trendsetting fashion to their hometown. With a great deal of hard work, years of constantly targeting new trends, and seeking out the best brands and merchandise, Cindy and Debbie’s dream took off beyond the twin cities and HerringStone’s became a household name for women’s wardrobes across north Louisiana.

Over the years HerringStone's has transpired into a Louisiana staple boutique. The sisters created an iconic company and continue to do so with second-generation, Hanna Herrington Lavergne and Haley Herrington; hence our phrase two generations and growing. Branching out from the limbs of HerringStone's as a sister store, HeirLoom by HerringStone's evolved. HeirLoom, meaning something of value passed on from one generation to the next, was established in 2017 and continues to flourish.

What started as a small family business is slowly growing into something greater and we thank you for following along and supporting us! In addition to our website, HerringStone’s has five store locations in Louisiana: HerringStone's Monroe, HerringStone's Lafayette, HeirLoom By HerringStone’s Youngsville, HeirLoom By HerringStone's in Houma, and our newest addition HerringStone's Baton Rouge. Each storefront is a haven for style, fashion, and top of the line customer service.

ABOUT COVER the

hoco 21 photoshoot

The ladies of Herringstone's took over the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center on Sunday, August 1st, for the History of Herringstone's Homecoming photoshoot. The team rented out the entire10th floor of the hotel for a contemporary and elegant feel of each time era.

The Herringstone's owners and creative director set up the space with a historical yet modern approach for each period, including an outdoor, lobby, and elevator shoot. The hotel sits in the heart of downtown Baton Rouge and on the banks of the Mississippi River. It's been recognized as one of the Historic Hotels of America and is now one of the most memorable photoshoot locations in Herringstone's History.

The team came up with the idea from the Netflix original series, "Bridgerton," and the essence of romance, drama, suspense, and femininity in the eras. By the end of the day, the owners Cindy Stone, Debbie Herrington, and Haley Herrington orchestrated over 30 Homecoming styles from head to toe. Special thanks go to the phenomenal photographers and videographers who captured this incredible moment, Darian Esser and Jody Johnston.

My

Hi, I'm Kristina with a K

My mom once told me, “As the seasons change, so should you.” It wasn’t until I was much older that I realized she did not mean personality-wise but to leave the past behind you and transform with the present. But, of course, easier said than done within the past year and a half. In 2020, the world slowed down, and the precious gift of life sped up. As a result, we lost family members, friends, neighbors, and parts of ourselves. I lost a considerable chunk of confidence and my ability to dream of a better future. Little did I know, the uncomfortableness I was trying to avoid was myself growing. Within the past year, I‘ve taken chances, thought outside-of-the-box, stood up for topics I believed in, pushed through the stress of graduating college, spent a lot of time alone, and told myself it’s OK to be scared that means you have something to lose.

Change is not an overnight assignment, and it’s definitely not easy, but you can start today. It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, and it’s a new light for me, and I’m feeling good, you know the song! What’s my advice? Wake up each morning and get dressed! Dress for the person you’re becoming or the job you want to manifest. Start working out even when you don’t feel like it, eat breakfast in the morning, and have a skincare routine at night. Be more organized, break bad habits both big and small, show up not only for your family and friends but for yourself, too. I saw a quote on Pinterest that said, “Imagine the woman you want to be. What does her life look like? Does she work for someone else? Or does she run her own show? What do her bank accounts look like? What daily habits does she have? Start showing up as her every day. You don’t become her like magic. You build her.” The thought that nothing lasts forever is freighting and exhilarating at the same time. I’m not sure about you, but that gives me hope for a better tomorrow. Happy Fall, readers.

xoxo, KC, Editor-in-Chief

Moving on Up HERRINGSTONE'S NEW HEADQUARTERS

New Office, Who's This? The ladies of Herringstone's recently expanded into a 5000 sq. ft. warehouse facility in Youngsville and it's nothing less than dreamy. "We've had tons of people asking us for more inventory, so we brought it to you," Hanna explained. Online orders are now shipped and processed right here in Acadiana to your front door!

How is it achieved? The newly redesigned website has made the HS shopping experience easier than ever! The website features weekly drops, current Herringstone's trends, AND sectioned by brand collections. After you make the toughest decision to buy everything or a few items on the site, the HS corporate office team will pull the items from the back, package and process them from out of the warehouse! Talk about cut down on delivery time!

Warehoue Launch Party A two-hour-long event celebrating the relaunch of the website and the fabulous headquarters, Hanna, Claire, and the entire dream team showed up for a fun night of doorbuster deals, new products, and a chance for customers to meet the staff! The event was hosted during the CommentSold Facebook Live sale, hosted by the boss babes of Herringstone's. Not to mention the endless amount of Rose and the delicious charcuterie board. It's safe to say, these ladies know how to throw a PARTY!

FIVE DORM DECOR HACKS Ways To Add Personality to Your Dorm Room

Ready or not, college here we come! But first, what about my dorm room? If you are not running between classes, standing in line at the food court, or hanging out with your friends in the quad, then more than likely you are in your dorm room studying for the next test. Why not make it fashionable? If you are anything like me, your personal space must feel homey. College is a new beginning and chapter in your life; let’s make the best of it for cheap! I love to make inexpensive items look overvalued than their cost. Honestly, it’s more fun creating that same Pinterest room, just on a budget! So, where do I find it? Target, Walmart, Burlington Coat Factory (yes, they have a home decor section), HomeGoods and AtHome. Even the Dollar Stores have super cute pillows, throws, and containers that can spice up any space! So, where do we start? Find your style and roommate's (if you have one, if not, then you are fortunate!) type, then find a shared medium. I have seen a mix between cowgirl and beauty queen; they combined a beautiful blush pink and cow prints #supercute! You would be surprised how two ideas can come together to make magic! Let’s dive right into having your #dreamdormroom!

Here’s a list of five must-have decors to spice up your dorm room. Just sitting pretty with my girls: Futon, sofa, chair, bean bag chair, are all essential items for a simple sitting area. A money-saving hack is buying the simplest couch and dressing it up with pillows and blankets. The first item I ever purchased was a futon, very minimalistic and chic from Walmart.com. The good thing about this futon is that I bought it in white, it goes with anything, and it can turn into a twin-sized bed for when my friends are staying the night. Also, I purchased a hot pink bean bag chair #socomfy from Walmart.com! How amazing it is to have more than one place to chill and do homework! Ultimately, once you have an oversized item such as the sofa or chair, make it yours! Add furry pillows, lots of cute cushions, blankets, even a rug as a perfect throw! Now that we have our sitting area, let's add our girls. Snap a pic, click-click! Picture frames and wall art! Some decide to attend the university close to home and others go miles and miles away, make sure all of your favorite photos and memories are packed with you. The simplest way to create your canvas is by going to Walgreens, Office Depot, or Walmart and printing out your photos. I suggest having various sizes, maybe 4 x 4 and 8 x 10, and then adding a filter to the images. It is the best way to keep a vibe without overdoing it! For example, filter your photos to black and white or a fun filter, and then you have a super cute college that’s not overwhelming to look at.

Study hard!

Call it a vibe!

Imagine you stayed up until midnight last night typing up a paper on why “Elephants Should Not Go Extinct.” You have 12 pt. font, Times Roman, double spaced, 1500 word count, five paged essay, and you go to print it out...but wait, you don’t have a stapler #noway. Instead of running around campus trying not to be late looking for a stapler, you should consider buying one of your own and while you are it, pick up some paper clips, too. Look up "Desk Organization Ideas" on Pinterest, pick a desk theme, and then go from there. Let’s say your theme is "Pink + Feminine." Search Amazon for an acrylic gold stapler and tape dispenser, add in a blush pink computer mat and trash can. You can then spruce it up and add a coffee mug with a #girlboss printed on it, a navy blue desk calendar, and a tabletop clock. Now you have a fashionable desk area! Hobby Lobby has a huge variety of desk accessories, too. Now...let’s get to studying!

Whether it’s a lamp or rope lights, not only does it create a fantastic vibe, but it’s pretty essential if your roommate goes to sleep at 7 p.m. The thing I love about lamps is that you can mix and match your base and shade. Easily add rope lights to any part of your dorm because of its flexibility. What makes it even better, once you turn off the lights and your dorm room illuminates and shines bright as you unwind for the remainder of the night.

I can not find my favorite shirt! Since living in a dorm can remind you of living at home without mom picking up and ironing your clothes. You have to learn to organize your entire closet on your own… I know #tragic! The best thing to have is a clothing rack! With clothing racks, you can hang up your clothes instead of balling them up and throwing them into a container, and what do you know, it’s now wrinkled. I suggest to make it even more fashionable and organize add cloth hangers (a pack of 24 cost $9.99 at Burlington Coat Factory), clothing dividers (you can find it on Amazon, eBay), and of course, the rack itself (run as low as $8.99 at Walmart). You can spruce it up by adding a furry rug to the bottom and a small ottoman for small items.

Are you ready to dominate your dorm room? Remember, a dorm room is tiny, but you make it yours and, of course, your roommates. All in all, once you find the perfect bedspread, base everything else around it! Add cute pillows, rugs, blankets, and something that reminds you of home more and more each day. I can guarantee you will be running to get back to your dorm room after class. Study hard while sitting pretty with your girls in your favorite shirt, don’t forget to snap a picture, click-click, and caption it #vibes.

THE WOMEN BEHIND THE BRAND AN INTERVIEW WITH HERRINGSTONE'S TRAILBLAZERS DEBBIE HERRINGTON AND CINDY STONE

Debbie Herrington and Cindy Stone, the two founding owners and CEOs of Herringstone's Boutique, paved the way for their entire family to start a fashion empire in Louisiana. Both of their last names combined Herrington and Stone created the household name of Herringstone's. These fashionable sisters are at the forefront of the industry as the buyers of the company. Cindy and Debbie, the Homecoming gurus, talks to us about their journey as the QUEENS of HS.

EIC: What made you choose the fashion industry?

EIC: What do you love the most about your job and company? Cindy: For me, it’s the growth of the business. We’ve been in business for 32 years, and we only had the Monroe area twenty-two of those years. When

We open two of our stores just months apart (Baton Rouge and Houma)! It was BUSY, fortunately, we had the opportunity to franchise the Houma location. We own it and do all the buying for the location, but we don’t have as much responsibility.

EIC: What is fashion for you?

EIC: When did you realize that Homecoming was prominent to the brand?

creative KENDALL

director The girl with a plan and Diet Coke in hand! Meet and learn about our Creative Director, Kendall Carraway! She's the visionary behind Herringstone's aesthetical visuals, photoshoots, and campaigns. Working closely with the owners and marketing team, she's someone you can count on to take an idea and bring it to life! Kendall directed the History of Herringstone's Homecoming Era series, Summer in the 70's photoshoot, and the newest RollingStones campaign. The passionate fashionista and creator will take us through her Herringstone's journey and what she loves the most about her job!

Fun Fact about Ken I have always said goofy things since I was a little person! Whether that be making up my own words or a saying. My mom used to call them “Kendallisms”

EIC: Why did you choose Creative Director as a career? …

EIC: What inspires you when you're planning and creating photoshoot designs?

KC: I have always had a creative side, which is why I pursued and earned a degree in Fashion Merchandising. After graduation, I worked at Anthropologie, where I got my feet wet with styling Instagram shoots for their company page. Working closely with the visual merchandiser paved the way for me to learn all the ends and outs of an aesthetically impactful shopping space. Over the next three years, I kept fine-tuning my creative skills. I learned a great deal being a part of URBN, and I am forever thankful for the mentors and resources they provided. When I interviewed for Herringstone’s, I had no idea what was about to unfold. Claire asked me to style an entire photoshoot during my first shift, which shifted my creative style into overdrive. I took the shoot one step further and brought my vision to life in the stores by mimicking the shoot through merchandising and displays. It was then I knew I was where I was meant to be. I fell in love, and I never turned back! Now I have so much freedom to express the company, clothing, and myself. I could not ask for anything better.

KC: My friends and coworkers are my biggest inspiration. Our team is so diverse in its style, and I channel them when creating a collection. So you will see a little bit of each of us throughout a collection: I’m very preppy, Haley Herrington is an edgy icon, and Cindy and Debbie is the definition of classy-inspired looks.

EIC: What do you love about being a Creative Director?

EIC: What is fashion for you, and who do you look up to?

KC: What I love the most are the people I work with and the ideas they bring to the table. From the top, Hanna and Claire push me every day to be the best version of myself. Sydney, our photographer, and I work closely to blend our ideas and find the best way to bring our vision to life. The models are gems and are always willing to try something new. The company as a whole has given me more than I could ever ask for. They are incredibly supportive and could not ask for a better creative team.

KC: Fashion, for me, is an expression of how you feel and embodies confidence. It changes daily for me. I want to walk out of the house feeling good about myself. But, realistically, there are days when I don’t feel my best, and it shows in my choice of clothing. Other days, I use fashion to boost my mood by selecting a great outfit that makes me feel great about myself. I have always looked up to my grandmother. She is very fashionable, and when she walks out of the door, she puts her best foot forward and kills the looks.

EIC: How do you stay updated with the trends in the fashion industry? KC: I spend A LOT of my free time on Pinterest and have boards on pretty much any subject you could think of. Fashion is constantly evolving, but the core is older pieces that's reinvented. I like to deep dive into more vintage-style collections and designs and find new ways to reinvigorate them.

EIC: What's your typical workday. KC: I never have a typical day, but it always starts with a coffee and checking my computer. So these two things are always with me.

I touch base with the stores in the morning on operations and visuals. Then I love planning photoshoots and HS ambassador content for the coming weeks and following up with a meeting with our fabulous marketing team on promotions and planning.

EIC: Define your style? KC: That is very difficult to answer. It is a beautiful combination of all my past lives. In middle school, I had the collar over the sweater and a bow in my hair. High school was simple dresses and hair always in a high pony. As a typical college student, my style was more laid back and effortless. When I worked at Anthropologie, it was a tailored style with statement pieces. As opposed to working at Free People, I embodied the beauty of basic pieces mixed with trendy. I have a little bit of it all, and it's irreplaceable. It is a true reflection of my past and influences.

EIC: Which current trends do you incorporate in your clothing selections from the fall collection? KC: Lots and lots of layering. I’m a believer in making one piece look different in 100 ways. So as I transition into fall, I pull pieces that you might already have in your closet to bring them back to life. Fashion moves fast, but your pieces don’t have to. Bringing life back to your wardrobe is a huge challenge for everyone. But for me, finding new ways to bring light back to the pieces you have loved for years by weaving into current trends is the best feeling.

EIC: If you had to choose, which is your favorite Homecoming collection? Why? KC: That is a hard one because I loved it all. But if I had to pinpoint one, it would be the Elizabethan Collection. The styles and colors are right up my alley. The light pastels are soft but also impactful. The setting drove the concept so well and was close to my heart. We used my grandmother’s wedding china for a classic feel, and then when HS model Brooklyn hopped on the table….the bit of edge did it for me.

Thanks for making my days brighter!

EIC: If you only buy one clothing item for the rest of your life, what would it be? KC: DENIM. I am such a sucker for denim. I have enough that you would never think I would need anymore. But denim can embody so much, from comfort to dressing it up.
