The Epitome of Hermandad: Alpha Zeta Chapter Celebrates 10 Years August 18, 2012 -Los Angeles, California The Alpha Zeta chapter of Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Incorporada (SIA), hosted their first big anniversary banquet celebrating 10 years at California State University, Dominguez Hills. The celebration took place at Tamayo Restaurant in Los Angeles, California August 18th, 2012 from 6pm to 12am. The guest speaker of honor was Ariel “Pikaki” Bantunbacal. The event was organized by Alpha Zeta undergraduates. The purpose of the event was to honor the three women who helped bring SIA to California. In 2002, Yanira “Considerada” Bernal- Solis, Jayne “Melao” Roman and Patty “Talisman “Ayon founded the legacy. The awards given out were: Award of Appreciation to Office of Student Life, Christal J Neal, Rosa Chairez, and Ariel Batungbacal; Most Supportive Fraternity and Sorority Gamma Zeta Alpha National Fraternity Inc. and Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc.; Alumna of the Year- Evelyn Diaz; Most Improved GPA- Pauline Velazquez; Rosa Award- Iriana Garcia; Undergraduate Hermana of the Year- Mayra Garcia; Presidential Award- Laura Crespo; Recognition of New Members- Laura Crespo, Jackie Villanueva, Pauline Velazquez, and Iriana Garcia; LegaSIA Award- Evelyn Diaz; Founder Awards- Yanira Bernal- Solis, Jayne Roman, and Patty Ayon; Chapter Award was given to all current Undergrads in the Alpha Zeta Chapter. A recognition award was given to Alpha Zeta's Chapter Advisor, Rosa Chairez. Chapter founder, Jayne “Melao” Roman, stated that “ Celebrating 10 years on the west coast is truly a blessing! Being able to reflect and see the newest members in full action was remarkable. As a founder, I would have never imagined being blessed 10 years later with more than 40+ chapter sisters!”

(SIA): SIA was founded in New York on September 29, 1990 by thirteen Latina women with the purpose of creating an organization that would help their communities, unite women, promote the Latino culture and uphold a set of distinct goals.
