HERLUFSHOLM CLOTHING

School timeSkolebeklædning

The shared attire at Herlufsholm School has deep roots in our history—going all the way back to the 1800s. The principles behind it are more relevant now than ever, as we place particular emphasis on well-being, learning, and sustainability.

The common guidelines aim to create a visible expression of community and shared values and, most importantly, to provide an equal foundation for the development of individual talents and personality.

The attire maintains a classic and simple look in dark or medium blue as well as dark or medium grey.

The attire must be solid-colored, without checks, stripes, or large logos. All clothing must be well-maintained, clean, and appropriately sized. We expect students to be generally attentive to their appearance and well-groomed. Clothing should be worn properly, and hair should be well-kept and in natural colors.

Ear piercings are allowed. Tattoos must not be visible in daily life.

The school’s clothing supplier is Mister in Næstved. Mister provides guidance on purchasing school attire and has established a basic package for both boarding and day students. If additional items are desired, Mister will assist with that. Mister requests that an appointment for fitting be made as early as possible.

It is important that all clothing brought to school is labeled with the student’s name. Name tags can be ordered from Mister, who will also sew the name into all clothing purchased at the store.

DRESS CODE FOR THE SCHOOL’S TRADITIONAL CELEBRATIONS

Overview and supplementation

It is possible to buy and sell used school clothing through our Facebook group ”Køb/salg Herlufsholm skoletøj,” where parents can find information and contact each other regarding the buying and selling of used school attire.

Midweekend

On Saturdays after school and on Sundays, students may vary their school attire with the supplementary options in their leisurewear; however, all students must wear the Herlovian shirt at the dining halls.

Travel weekend

When leaving the school, school and/or leisurewear should be worn. If students return to school in different clothing, they must change into school or leisurewear as soon as they arrive back at school.

Excursions

For excursions, study trips, theater visits, and other events, school, sports, or leisurewear should be worn, possibly with half-gala attire—subject to agreement with the teacher.

Laundry and bylt

The school’s Linen Room offers laundry services for all clothing items. Students drop off bundles with dirty clothes in the Laundry Room on Thursday mornings before breakfast and pick up their clean clothes from the Linen Room on Thursday mornings after breakfast.

All student dorms have washing machines and dryers, where students can do additional laundry, such as for sportswear. Students should use the washing machines and dryers according to the dorm’s instructions and at their own responsibility.

Dry Cleaning

Some of the Herlufsholm clothing cannot be washed but should be dry cleaned when necessary. The Linen Room facilitates the drop-off and pick-up of dry-cleaned clothing at a local dry cleaner, according to the ”Bundle, Linen Change, and Dry Cleaning” schedule for the current school year. The cost of dry cleaning is charged quarterly via the student’s account.

The dress code has been developed by the school’s standing clothing committee (students and management) as well as ad hoc clothing committees (day and boarding students across primary and secondary school, parents, boarding teachers, and management).
