WelcometoourfirstHerefordshireYoungMusicianCompetition,kindlysupportedbytheDeanand ChapterofHerefordCathedral.ThecompetitionwilltakeplaceinCollegeHall,HerefordCathedral CloistersonSaturday18thJanuary2025startingat9.30am.
Eachcompetitorisinvitedtoplaya12minuteprogrammeinfrontofanaudienceinCollegeHall. PianistswillplayonaYahamagrandpiano.
Therewillbethreecashprizesformusiciansawarded1st,2nd and3rd place.Inaddition,these musiciansmaybeofferedrecitalsandconcertopportunitiesinthesubsequentyear.
Thecompetitionisexpectedtolastformostofthedaywiththeadjudicationattheend.Competitors areencouragedtobringparentsandfriendstolistenandtosupporteachotherbyhearingother playersperform. Allparticipantswillberequiredtobepresentforthefinaladjudication.Timingsfor thedaywillbeprovidedtwoweekspriortothecompetition.Stagepresentationanddressare importanttoconsider.Thewinnerswillberequiredtoposeforpublicityphotosafterthe adjudication.
The closing date for entries is Friday 6 December 2024. A completed application form should be submittedbyemailtoa.turtle@herefordcs.comwithalldetailsrequestedinthispack.Pleasenote entrieswillnotbeacceptedwithoutpaymentoftheentrancefeeof£30.

Eligibility
Only musicians who satisfy the following criteria are eligible to apply. The candidate must be:
• ResidentorreceivingfulltimeeducationormusictuitioninHerefordshireduringtheperiodSeptember 2024–January2025.
• Agedbetween11and18yearsduringtheabovedates.
• Notengagedinafull-timeoccupationaseitheraperformerorteacherofmusic
• CandidatesmusthavegainedGrade7oranypostGrade7qualificationorequivalentmatchingstandard, asapprovedbytheorganisers(pleaseenquireifyouarenotsure).
• Candidatesare not permittedtoenteronmorethanoneinstrument.Only one entrypercandidate.
• DisabledcandidatesareadvisedthattheCollegeHall is very accessible.
Candidates may be instrumentalists or singers. The following instruments will be accepted for entry:
Keyboard: Piano.
Strings: Violin, Viola, ‘Cello, Double Bass, Guitar (excluding electric guitar), Harp
Woodwind: Recorder, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone
Brass: French Horn, Trumpet, Cornet, Flugelhorn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba
Percussion: Please provide your own equipment.
A Yahama grand piano is available for pianists.
Programme
Candidates are invited to perform two or more contrasting pieces of their own choice, on one instrument, lasting a maximumof 12 minutes Own compositions and improvisations are not permitted A copy of each item(photocopies are fine) must be provided for the adjudicators on the day.
Accompanists
Participants are advised to book their accompanist at an early date and are responsible for all expenses incurred by their accompanists
Prizes
Three cash prizes of £200, £150 and £100 will be awarded. There will also be public performance opportunities for the winners during the course of the following year within Herefordshire.
Entry fee
There is a non- refundable entry fee of £30 for the competition. Please pay by bank transfer 309414 account number 00198901. Ref HYM and your surname.

Acceptance of all applications will be sent via email when all entries are in. Please note that late entries, or entries without payment will not be accepted. Only one entry will be accepted per candidate.
