Servpro celebrates 10 years of service to three counties

Servpro of Franklin, Vance and Granville Counties is celebrating their 10th year in business. Keith and Melissa Paul opened the business in October 2000 after two weeks of intense training at Servpro Corporate, in Gallatin, TN. Melissa’s background is in the medical field as a physical therapist in a variety of settings. She grew up in many states including Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Indiana and Oklahoma. Keith and Melissa started Servpro of Franklin, Vance and Granville Counties out of their home, with three kids under the age of 4. Now their kids are working in the business in the summer and during school breaks. Servpro of Franklin, Vance and Granville Counties is a franchise system with over 1600 locations across the country. The company provides fire and water damage restoration, sewage/ biohazard clean-up, carpet and upholstery cleaning, air duct cleaning, mold remediation and emergency services. According to company CEO Joe Carr, these high-performance solar panels may be the most efficient in the world for converting sunlight to electricity. “We will build what is really the high-tech portion of the system here,” Carr said. “It is what I call the ‘secret sauce’ of our success. That will always be done in Vance County.” Carr also pointed out several advantages beyond the financial incentives that singled out Vance County as the ideal location for

the company to build its pilot manufacturing plant. Those advantages included proximity to I-85 and the company’s home base in Durham, workforce training opportunities with VanceGranville Community College, an available workforce and Triangle North’s offering of room for growth. “I think Semprius coming to Vance County will cause us to see an economic churn of jobs,” said Bill Edwards, Henderson-Vance County Chamber of Commerce president. “The jobs at Semprius will require skilled training. Kennametal wins its 24th gold safety award

Volunteers brave the heat to check ID’s for the Chamber’s first 2011 Meet Me in the Street.

Castaways launch 2011 “Meet Me in the Street” series The Castaways launched the 2011 “Meet Me in the Street” free concert series on May 26. The reputable band, known throughout the South for its over 50 years in the beach music industry, added extra heat to downtown with their mix of rock n’ roll, soul and beach music. The band proved to be a hit with the diverse crowd of more than 1000 in attendance. “The band brought a fresh sound and great entertainment to this popular venue,” said Bill Edwards, Chamber President. Harris Incorporated of Henderson along with Budweiser is the presenting sponsor of the concert series again this year. The second concert was held on July 14 with The Konnection Band and the third and final concert for the season is on Sept. 1 with The Holiday Band. Community Workforce Solutions, Chester’s and Pizza Hut served up hot

dogs, chicken and pizza for the hungry mob while Coca-Cola and Harris Incorporated took care of their thirsts. Wine and T-shirts were also available for attendees to purchase. Local sponsors for the events include: Gold sponsors - BB&T, Maria Parham Medical Center and Toyota of Henderson; Silver sponsors - AA Self Storage, AAA Gas and Appliance Co., EarlyFalsom Properties, Inc., NCOL, P & G Pet Care, Philips Optimum, Progress Energy and Satterwhite Point Marina; Media sponsors - The Daily Dispatch, Home in Henderson, US 98.3 and WIZS (AM 1450); and Contributing sponsors - For Your Occasion Party Rentals, Franklin Brothers Nursery & Greenhouses, Inc., KARTS, Rural Health Group at Henderson, P & G Pet Care, Mike Brooks Productions, Community Workforce Solutions, Quick Print, Bobbitt Signs and US Cellular.

ry addressed the crowd of approximately 70, mostly industrial business owners and employees, before handing out the awards. Commissioner Berry touted the importance of knowing our co-workers in order to support and watch out for them if they might be having a “bad day” because of physical or personal issues. “This could go far in preventing a potential accident” said Berry. Local employers and

their employees were recognized with awards for maintaining exceptionally safe working conditions for an extended period of time during 2010. The Kennametal Henderson Plant won a Gold Award for the 24th consecutive year. To qualify for a gold award, the accident rate (rate of days away from work and job transfer or restriction) must be at least 50% below the industry average.
