What Are The Major Types of Engineering Entrance Exams in India? Engineering is a very popular career choice in India that most of the students aspire to pursue. According to an estimate, India produces about 1.5 million engineers every year. The competition for admission into good engineering colleges in India is tough. If you check the list of B. Tech Colleges in Raipur or Delhi or any other city in India, you will notice that the total number of applicants outnumber the total seats available by a big difference. There are many competitive exams in the country for admission into engineering programs in various colleges and universities. The various types of engineering entrance exams in India can be divided into three broad categories, namely: national level, state level, and university level exams. The same are discussed below: National Level Exams The national level exams are conducted for admission into national level engineering institutions such as the IITs and NITs. Since they are the most prestigious engineering institutions of the country, the competition for admission into them is also very hard. There is fight for every fraction of a mark that the candidates get in these exams. The most popular national level exams for admission into B. Tech courses in India are JEE Main and JEE Advanced. These exams are taken by the Central Board of Secondary Education. State Level Exams State level exams are conducted by the various state education boards for admission into the state owned engineering colleges. You can go through the list of engineering colleges in Chhattisgarh, UP, Delhi, Rajasthan, or any other city and sit for a state level exam to get admission there. The competition in these exams is not as severe as in the national level examinations. Thus, your chances of clearing them somewhat increase. Some state level entrance tests for B. Tech are UPSEE, DCE CEE, CG PET, and Rajasthan PET. University Level Exams The university level exams are usually conducted by private universities and colleges for admission into the B. Tech programs offered in their campuses. Some universities also consider the score of national and state level exams, while there are many that conduct their own exam. The competition in these exams is far relaxed than the national level exams. This means that if you prepared well and sat for the national level and scored decently, but didn’t manage to find a place in the merit list, your chances are fairly bright in the university level due to mild competition. Having said that, don’t consider these exams a piece of cake, otherwise you would be disillusioned by the result. Some popular examples for the university level B. Tech entrance tests are BITSAT, VITEEE, Amity JEE, and PGEE, among others. So, now you have got an idea what kind of exams you have to give for admission into various B. Tech colleges. To get through any of these exams, you need to be very clear on the basics and have good time management skills. Always remember that perseverance is the key to success. Best of luck!
