Reading: Zeara Polo, A. 2010. Between Ideas and Matters.
According to Zeara-Polo, the diagram does not play a representational role in the design process but provides an organisational and can have a performative quality depending on how it is deployed. Explain how Diagram is different from Signs and Symbols? (100 words Maximum)
Diagram is between the concept and reality, which is focused more to the gerneration of new realities and can be used to explore architectural and urban conditions, compare with signs and symbols which almost represent the concept. Besides, diagram could be used to examine the behaviour of a system under situations. As for sign, the style and content could be uncorrelated.
Reference of the ImageA: BIANCHINI, RICCARDO. 2018. “Chicago - The Burnham Pavilion By Zaha Hadid Architects. Inexhibit. Accessed March 10 2018. https://www.inexhibit.com/case-studies/chicago-the-burnham-pavilion-by-zaha-hadid/. The two elevations are shown in ImageA.
In imageB and imageC, it could be seen that the tracing lines were used to model. I traced the lines in top view and i rotated the elevations to be vertical. Then i can use the lines from elevations and move them to the lines which were matched with the line on the plan. The elevation could give the height of this modelling and the plan could give the distance between each line. After moving and shearing of the line, i lofted the line one by one, which could be seen from the imageD.
Reading: Hertzberger H. 2005. The in-between and The Habitable Space Between Things, from Lessons for Students in Architecture. Herzberger discuss how design should not be extreme in its functionality. Use your precedent study to explain how the pavilion allows for an appropriation of use. (100 words Maximum)
In the text, it is talking about the threshold of building could provide the transition and connection between areas. The spatial condition for the meeting and conversation between areas of different orders. For example, De overloop, a sheltered area at the front door, which is a place where you say hello or goodbye to the visitors. As for my precedent study’s pavillion which is zaha hadid burnham pavilion, it has two entries. There is a base over the structure of this building, which connects the interior space and the outside.
Zaha Hadid Burnham Pavilion ‘s Isometric (SW)
I chose this isometric, because this view can show one of the entries and the interior form. I have learned that circulation is the movement or action of people in the situation. How can they move in this building? As for the threshold, i have learned that the threshold could be the connection between two spaces or more spaces. It could be an area to have a conversation or rest. The key concept of this precedent study might be the circulation and threshold. Specifically, how do people move in this building and how can the different spaces be connected are the main issues for me to consider. So, in my work, the dark grey colour shows the space of circulation and the threshold could be seen between the gate and center, or just the center, which depends on where you stand.

outside. So that means there are two thresholds’s areas here. One is shown by the dark grey colour and another threshold space is shown by the light grey colour.
The Tracing of the elevation and the plan.
Using the tracing line to build the model. I used the line from the east and the north elevation drawing. I moved them to the plan. After this, i sheared the lines and make them match the line from the plan.
The image of tracing lines.
Then, i used the tracing lines and the ’loft’ command to model.
I used the ’extrudecrv’ command to extend the surface. Then, for the entries, i used the ‘Trim’ com-

I moved the interior stuffs and the base into the exterior modelling.
Using the ‘make2d’ command to save the isometric view in illustrator and adjusting the line.
