fter growing up in Morristown, Ron Ailey decided to return after working at Hughes Aircraft in Los Angeles, California, and Daniels Construction in Colorado. He returned to Morristown, married Connie, and started his own construction company. A few years later, he and Jerry Burke formed Burke-Ailey Construction Co., Inc. Burke-Ailey has now been in the commercial and industrial construction business for over 21 years. The Company has had the opportunity to build many churches, medical and industrial buildings and strives to achieve high quality construction. Burke-Ailey is grateful to the community of Morristown for entrusting it with many project opportunities over the years.

Bo, age 15

S

hortly after settling in Morristown, Connie decided to give up her flight attendant career with Northwest Airlines because of the difficulty involved in commuting to Memphis. She then became employed with the school system at Morristown East High School. She has been employed with the Hamblen County School system as a teacher for 16 years. Connie is excited about working in the Freshman Academy at Morristown East this upcoming school year. Ron is the son of the late Arthur and Dorothy Ailey. Arthur was a partner in Hasson-Bryan Hardware and worked there until his retirement. Dorothy worked as the Administrative Assistant to many superintendents of the Morristown School System and the Hamblen County School System until she retired. Connie is the daughter of Jim and Wanda Cupp. Jim retired from a 21-year career with the US Army and also from the US Post Office. They now reside in Morristown, having moved from Kingsport ten years ago. The Aileys have two sons: Matt, who just completed his junior year of college and is looking forward to his upcoming senior year; and Brent, who graduated from Morristown West High School in May. Brent is looking forward to attending college as a freshman this fall. Matt and Brent are busy this summer earning spending money for college. Matt is working in New York, and Brent is working in Morristown. Matt will graduate in June 2009 with a double major in Economics and Government, and Brent is planning to study Economics, as well.

Ron enjoys supporting the Morristown Community by serving on the Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Directors of Community National Bank. Ron and Connie enjoy the friendly nature and the pleasant atmosphere of Morristown and have been happy to see their children grow up here. They are members of First United Methodist Church. The Aileys enjoy the outdoors, cooking together, and traveling.

The Surgery Endoscopy Center at MHHS is one of many buildings Burke-Ailey has had the opportunity to build.

Murrell Burglar Alarms Celebrates 45 Years Murrell Burglar Alarms, Another Operation of Murrell Technologies, L.P., Is celebrating its 45th anniversary. Murrell Burglar Alarms was founded in August, 1963 as a one man operation which began as the brain child of Milton F. Murrell. After graduating from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, he began working for Deibold Alarm as a service tech in Atlanta, GA, serving the whole Southeastern Region. Homesick for Morristown, he moved back and began his own alarm company. By Sept. 9, he had sold and installed his first alarm system to CBS Radio & Television and Gray Seal Paint Company. As time passed, Murrell Electric Shop became Murrell Burglar Alarms, with Milton F. Murrell as sole proprietor. “I did everything from designing our logo to paying the bills,” Murrell said. Murrell Burglar Alarms is an independent, family owned and operated Company. Milton F. Murrell, son Milton M. (Mac) and daughter Suzette Murrell Kirk are active partners in the company. Mac’s daughter Lenzi Murrell Noe and her husband Josh make three generations of the Murrell’s working together and maintaining the principles upon which the firm was founded- honesty, integrity & personalized service. Aaron Beckett, Service Manager, has been with Murrell Alarms for 25 yrs. His favorite part of the job is seeing how far technology has come over the past four decades. Beckett’s years with the company and knowledge of both old and new equipment are very valuable to the company. He is also the qualifying agent for Murrell Alarms in TN & VA. To comply with state laws he must complete continuing education courses and testing for both states. He trains the other technicians with his expertise from these courses. Mr. Beckett works with building and fire code inspectors to ensure that systems are to code. “Laws change on an annual basis; I must stay updated on these changes.” Beckett said. He meets the needs of specific equipment installation applications for high risk clients, such as pharmacies and financial institutions, that have regulations mandated by insurance companies. Perry Helton works with Mr. Beckett in the service department of Murrell Alarms. Perry Helton first started as a part time installation helper during his summer break from college. In July of 1989, he joined the staff as a full time employee. As the business grew, he moved from senior installer

to service. His knowledge of alarm systems and his ability to work in sales, installations & service is a great asset to Murrell Alarms. Office Manager Sandra Hurley has been with the firm for almost 15 yrs. According to Ms. Hurley, Murrell Alarms puts the customer first. “At Murrell Alarms, we treat every customer the way we would want to be treated ourselves. Every effort is made to meet the customers needs as soon as possible. Our success depends on this principle. I know it works, because of our many repeat customers and new customers that choose us due to the recommendations of others pleased with our services." Phone lines are open 24hrs/day via the Security Central, Central Station & Answering Svc. Security Central and Murrell Alarms have been business associates for over 20 years. A retired plant manager from Shelby Williams, Bill Beckett brings years of management experience to the firm. The senior Mr. Beckett is in charge of all shipping and receiving at Murrell Alarms. He is also a management consultant to Milton M. Murrell. Jeff Anderson, Installation Manager, has been with Murrell since 1992. With a B. S. Degree in Applied Organizational Management, it is his job to coordinate all aspects of installations, from a small residential alarm to a large industrial firm. The demand for security no longer just includes burglar and fire detection. “The era of Big Brother is here. Surveillance and access control are large part of our installations. The technology in these fields are growing rapidly. I keep up with the changes and make sure that we are using the best equipment and technology available. New regulations for certain industries set forth by 9-11 and the Office of Home Land Security has played a large part in this growth.” All employees have completed required training as well as a complete background check by the TBI and the FBI. Each employee is registered and certified by the state of TN. Murrell Alarms is a member of the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Assoc. They have been members of the TN Burglar and Fire Alarm Assoc. since its inception in 1980. Milton F. Murrell and his son Milton M. (Mac) have held offices in these associations. They are also members of the VA Burglar and Fire Alarm Assoc. & the Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce.

Regardless of what the media, your family or the neighbors say, if your home is not selling you want to know why. Traditionally there are 5 factors that affect the selling of a home: 1.) Seller Motivation: are you really motivated to sell? If you are relocating you probably are, but if you are willing to sit on the house for a few months buyers will be willing to wait you out. 2.) Lending Rates and Financing: are interest rates favorable? Kiplinger.com states that mortgage rates are likely to close 2008 at 6%, which is a favorable mortgage rate. This rate may change a quarter of a point or two, but generally remain around 6% (according to experts currently studying trends). 3.) Location: as the saying goes, “location, location, location.” If your property is not located in a favorable place it will be difficult to sell in any market. 4.) Condition: have you painted the walls? Is the house clean? Are there any glaring damages that need to be repaired? If your property is not in good condition when you put it on the market, buyers will walk in the door and walk back out. You have to present your house in its best light on a daily basis. 5.) Pricing: in today’s market, this is the most important factor. With the market flush with homes, you HAVE TO PRICE CORRECTLY.

When buyers are looking for property the first factor they consider is the price. If your house is not priced correctly, buyers will walk to the next house. So, if you’re still saying to yourself: “I’ve done all those things!! I have a great house, it’s clean, shows great, is in a good location, and it’s priced as low as I can price it. What do I do now?” Believe me, I know how you feel. There are quite a few frustrated sellers on the market today. My first words of advice would be that if you do not have your home currently listed with a REALTOR, do so as soon as possible. Although it may seem like marketing and selling your own home is well within your skill set, a REALTOR can offer you access to the multiple listing service, more online access, knowledge of required forms, and many other options you may not have considered. Also, almost 90% of “for sale by owner” homes eventually end up being sold by REALTORS. If you have your home listed with a REALTOR, consider your pricing. Since the beginning of 2008 more and more homes are sitting on the market mainly due to inappropriate pricing. If you are a buyer, you may have noticed that you are looking at more vacant homes than you are owner occupied homes. Pricing has become very competitive and if you are not a motivated seller, buyers will not be sending you offers. Homes that are priced right and priced to sell will sell.

Please feel free to call or email me at any time if you are interested in buying, selling, or just to get an idea of today’s market. And best of luck!!

Economic/Education Summit Interrelationship of an Educated Citizenry & a Healthy Economy The Hamblen County P-16 Council and the Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce sponsored an Economic/Education Summit at The Country Club in Morristown on June 26, to build awareness of the link between economic success and quality education. Both organizations are involved in promoting local and regional prosperity through developing a skilled workforce. Approximately 100 economic, education, government, community media and youth leaders from Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, and Jefferson Counties convened for presentations on the relationship between economic development and education and Tennessee action steps. Dr. Matt Murray, Professor of Economics and Associate Director of the Center for Business at U.T. Knoxville, and author of Education Crossroads presented economic and education data. Jim Clinton, Executive

Director of Southern Policy Growth Board discussed the impact of education on economic development. Margaret Horn, co-chair of the “Tennessee Diploma Project” and Dr. Katie High, University of Tennessee Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Achievement outlined Tennessee’s education plan. . The “Tennessee Diploma Project” will be implemented in all Tennessee public high schools for the 2009-2010 school year. SKIN TIGHT

Helpful skin facts that you can use.

with Charles S. Fulk, M.D., FACP, FAAD

Just like the face, our hands may show signs of aging. The adverse effects of sun damage show up early. Solar lentigoes, commonly called “liver spots” are first on the scene followed by precancerous red and scaly actinic keratoses. Lastly, the hands lose volume allowing the veins and tendons to look large and unsightly. Lasers can easily remove the lentigoes and keratoses. With our new filling technique, the volume depletion can now be corrected. We use Radiesse which is a dermal filler composed of calcium

hydroxyl apetite. We currently use Radiesse to enhance cheeks and lift up nasolabial folds and “puppet” lines around the mouth. Radiesse is a natural substance that Is injected to plump up the skin to its previous, more youthful state. The procedure is quick and easy and very safe. The results can be dramatic.

Before

Call us at

423-587-4600 for a free consultation.

After

Let us design a skin rejuvenation program for you. Botox Cosmetic can greatly soften frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles. Juvederm and Sculptra can fill in those smoker’s lines and put volume back into the deflated, fallen face. The Smoothbeam laser shrinks enlarged oil glands and helps acne and acne scarring. The Versapulse & V-Beam lasers are great for blood vessels around the nose, cheeks and chin. The Gentlelase Plus laser is the “gold standard” for removing unwanted hair and pigment problems. The new Vitalize Peel can restore that facial luster. Finally, there is Ultrapulse laser resurfacing for severely photo damaged and aged skin.

MORRISTOWN HAMBLEN HEALTHCARE SYSTEM Morristown Regional Imaging Center Now Provides a Softer Mammogram

Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System is proud to announce the recent addition of MammoPad® to mammography services at the Morristown Regional Imaging Center (formerly Morristown Radiology). The Center now provides the FDA-cleared foam cushion, called MammoPad®. A new product that dramatically eases the discomfort many women feel when they get a mammogram. It creates a softer, warmer mammogram. MHHS is hopeful that a more comfortable mammogram will encourage more women to have the life-saving annual test. Morristown Regional Imaging Center is a certified Softer Mammogram Provider®, a distinction awarded only to an elite group of healthcare facilities. The center hopes to increase the number of area women who follow recommendations for regular screenings. “The discomfort many women feel during mammography compression is widely known to be a reason that some don't get regular screenings,” said Dr. Susan Huntsinger, Oncologist and member of the active medical staff of Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System. In addition to compression, the cold surfaces and hard edges of the mammography device make the experience uncomfortable for some patients. “The breast cushion answers these complaints by providing a soft warm cushion for the breast during mammography,” said Emily Blomenberg, MHHS Diagnostic Imaging Director. "And because women are more relaxed during the exam, it makes it even easier for our mammography technologists to get the best possible image." The single-use, adhesive-backed foam cushion attaches to the compression plates of the mammography device. It was developed by Stanford University breast surgeon Gale Lebovic, M.D., who understood mammography discomfort from both a physician and patient’s point of view.

The recyclable breast cushion is “invisible” to X-rays and does not interfere with the image quality of the mammogram. “We try to create the best possible experience for our patients,” said Mrs. Blomenberg. “We’re pleased to be able to offer our patients this important enhancement.” For more information, call The Morristown Regional Imaging Center at (423) 586-1742 or to make an appointment call the scheduling line at (423) 317-3133. The Center is located across the street from MHHS at 901 West Fourth North Street. The American Cancer Society reports women can greatly reduce their risk of death from breast cancer if they receive regular mammographic screens. For this reason, both the society and the American College of Radiology recommend that women 40 and older receive mammograms yearly. Yet despite the urgency of this message, nearly 40 percent of American women don't get regular recommended mammograms. Studies have shown mammography pain is a major reason some women do not return for annual screening. The new foam cushion could help reverse this trend. MammoPad has been clinically studied in both the U.S. and Sweden, where evaluations in more than 1,300 patients found approximately 70 percent experienced a significant reduction in pain when the cushion was used. “Early detection of breast cancer can make the crucial difference between life and death,” said Dr. Huntsinger. “Mammograms identify lumps that a woman’s self-exam wouldn’t find until an average of 1.7 years later. That is why regular mammograms are the only scientifically proven way to reduce breast cancer mortality. This breast cushion removes a major barrier to women receiving this important procedure.”

Dr. John Lumb East Tennessee Health CenterGeneral and Cosmetic Surgery Dr. John Lumb is no stranger to the Lakeway Area. He and his wife Marnie have made their home here since August, 1999. Dr. Lumb says the mountains and lakes of East Tennessee are what brought him here after visiting his brother who lived in Greeneville 10 years ago. Dr. Lumb grew up in Houston Texas and had the convenience of attending The University of Texas Medical School in his hometown. He spent a lot of time in a medical setting, as he had an older brother who suffered from kidney disease. After several surgeries and a kidney transplant, his brother passed. That’s when Dr. Lumb knew he would become a surgeon. He has compassion for others and wants to make a difference in their lives and health. His special interests are laparoscopic surgeries, cancer surgeries including breast, colon, thyroid, and of course cosmetics which are growing daily. Dr. Lumb offers breast augmentation, breast lift, liposuction, abdominoplasty (tummy tucks), laser hair removal, botox, juvederm, as well as numerous other general surgeries such as appendectomies, gallbladder removals, and hernia repairs to name a few. In his spare time (which is not very often in the life of a surgeon) he enjoys water skiing, tennis, spending time with his family and is an avid hockey fan. He and his wife Marnie who is an OR nurse at Lakeway Regional Hospital have five children that keep them extremely busy. Dr. Lumb has recently joined East Tennessee Health Center located at 701 McFarland St Morristown. Office hours are 8-5 Monday-Friday. All insurances are accepted.

Sydney Richardson, F.N.P.

Sydney being assessed by youngest brother Reed and Step Daughter Sydney

Growing up the oldest of seven children, Sydney developed a passion for care giving at an early age. Sydney always wanted to be in Health Care, so when she had the experience of seeing a Nurse Practitioner she quickly decided that is what she wanted to do. When the opportunity arose for her to attend Vanderbilt, there was absolutely no questioning it. She is a graduate of Brigham Young University and received her masters in nursing from Vanderbilt University in Nashville. Originally from Southwest Virginia, she naturally has a love for the mountains and lakes of East Tennessee. She and her husband Jeremy, along with their daughter Sydney, enjoy hiking, snow skiing, bike riding, waterskiing and are very active in their church. They have two labs they also consider their babies that take up much of their time. Sydney decided to join East Tennessee Health Center as she has family in the lakeway area and it provides a home where they can enjoy all their outdoor hobbies. Located at: 1907 W. Morris Blvd. Suite A-100. OďŹƒce Hours are 8-5 Monday-Friday. All insurances are accepted and no appointment is necessary.
