Summer of Love 2012 to feature dozens of free, live cultural and sporting events in retail heart of city centre.

In the campaign, devised by City Central BID in response to the ÂŁ20m upgrade and closure of Central Station, more than 20 businesses signed up to provide special offers during a jam-packed programme of free live cultural and sporting events in the retail heart of the city centre.

The Campaign was supported by Merseyrail, Merseytravel, Network Rail and Liverpool city council.

Highlights of the programme included the Summer of Love Bandstand in Williamson Square and a Grandstand in Clayton Square for people to watch the Olympics on the Big Screen.

Other highlights included the Queen Square Diamond Jubilee Live Art Competition, the Carnival weekender featuring Brouhaha and Brazilica, a Ping Pong table festival, Streetwise Soccer and a touring piano at Central Station as part of Liverpool One’s Tickle the Ivories project.

The Summer of Love was also being promoted with a huge on-line marketing campaign via Radio City, Juice FM, One Card, Visit Liverpool and Echo Arena Liverpool and City Central BID also commissioned city centre flags and a groundbreaking advert inside Moorfields Station to raise awareness.
