The city’s Commercial District BID has hosted a book exchange on St George’s Day in which people receive a red rose – a tradition of ‘’St Jordi’’ who is also the patron saint of Catalonia.
The rose for book exchange has taken place on Derby Square and Castle Street on Tuesday, 23 rd April from 11am to 2pm.
Liverpudlians were encouraged to take a leaf out of Barcelona’s books as part of the city’s new literary festival, “In Other Words”.
The first 200 people received a free red rose courtesy of Fishlocks Florist , returning to their offices and homes with a book and a rose, just like the Catalan tradition
Over £210 was raised on the day and over 400 books donated to both Scope and The Reader Organisation.
