PROJECT PROFILE An interior and exterior renovation of a 9,000 square foot residence situated on the Big Wood River in Ketchum, Idaho. The extensive project included new selection of integral plaster, wood floors and forged hardware to work with the existing expansive stone walls and reclaimed beams. A new state of the art kitchen was added as part of the new construction to the existing residence to create an entertaining but functional space for a young family.
DESIGN The project was a true collaboration between the client, architect, designer and contractor to transform the dated adobe styled residence into a beautifully appointed mountain retreat. The design concept rested on the strong foundation of the existing plaster and stone walls, wood beams and 10 foot wood paned windows. Natural fibers, textures and materials were brought together to connect the landscape to the surroundings within the residence and to the furnishings. The balance between comfort, style and design created a residence that would allow for daily family living as well as provide a sophisticated space for large events.
GREAT ROOM / PALATTE OF MATERIALS The great room is the focal point of the residence and the central gathering area. Large stone walls are the backdrop to beamed ceilings, full height windows and doors and a large fireplace. The room allows for multiple gathering options as well as a 14 person dining table. The lush velvets, sublime silks and trusted leathers coupled with softly hued plaster walls and treated oak floors are reminiscent of the large gathering rooms of old lodges and family estates.
The smaller more intimate sitting room provides a place to retreat from the day’s activities. Building upon the materials throughout the Main House, the room is filled with traditional materials; linen window coverings, hair-on-hide leather high back chairs and wool covered sofas.
KITCHEN / LAUNDRY
The kitchen, pantry and laundry areas were part of the addition to the existing residence. The new space created a state of the art kitchen with a material palette based on the natural materials of the existing house. Materials included HanStone quartz counter tops, custom white oak cabinets, stainless steel fixtures and tiled walls.
