SLOW CITY DESIGNED BY KIM SUNG HYUK & JUNG KYUNG HEE brief

In the past, people all have enough spaces to take some time for themselves in our city. However, suddenly city started to change, because of the growth of industry. As the city was growing, society was becoming fast, so was people. Because of these phenomenon, people lost their time for relaxation. Also a lot of empty spaces that sometimes people use for taking their time are getting smaller. Finally, people in this city don’t know how to manage their spare time, or what to do in empty spaces. However, in this situation, some people started to have their time to be slow. In this movement, people make their garden or farm, cook with organic ingredients growth by themselves, move somewhere by bicycle or take some time to be slow. Now these movement is really strong and spread to a lot of cities, so people make organization for this movement. Furthermore a lot of cities in the world registered their city as a slow city to support this activities. However, Seoul which is one of the fastest city in the world doesn’t have any spaces for these kind of activities. Strictly, we have 4 slow cities in Korea, but it’s all in a country which is far from Seoul. Therefore people who live in Seoul can’t have enough time to go there and enjoy their time. With this situation, we thought if we have some spaces for supporting these kind of activities in Seoul, it will be better and useful for people who want to be slow. Also we believe demand for these kind of activities will be more increase in the future than the present.

WE LIKE OUR CONCEPT AND IF WE HAVE THIS SLOW CITY, IT WILL BE BETTER IN THE FUTURE WE BELIEVE. HOWEVER UNTIL MIDTERM WE DIDN’T HAVE SPECIFIC NEXT PROPOSAL, THEREFORE WE NEED TO IMPROVE OUR IDEA IN DETAIL. AND ALSO WE WANT TO KEEP OUR CONCEPT TO THE END.

BECAUSE WE WANT TO KEEP OUR CONCEPT, WE NEED TO WORK OUR BUILDINGS WITH MOUNTAIN. HOWEVER WE DON’T WANT TO DESTROY THE MOUNTAIN AND CONTEXT ALSO, THEREFORE WE NEED TO DESIGN VERY SOPHISTICATELY.

Brain storming Getting out of the fast world Mixed-use building As industries grow, a lot of cities in the world became fast. Seoul is the one of the fastest cities but some people start to be slow in their life. Therefore we tried to make slow spaces for those people.

people can enjoy their slow time in this mixed-use building with slow programs.

Mapping

Seoul city

Slow city mapping Urban context This mapping explains about accesses to our site. Yellow is for people who come to this site by walk. Blue is a main road for car. And also people can come to this site by subway and suttle bus in Nam mountain.

Organization Diagram

Organization Chart How organizaed mixed used To make effect maximize in our project, we tried to organize programs from fast to slow feeling. Therefore, fwe deďŹ ne fast program and slow program ďŹ rst.

Conecpt model

Topic of the model 1 Cocept model #1

We started to think about void spaces. we thought that void spaces are going to be important in our project, because through the void spaces we can control what people see and what people feel. Therefore, to make these kind of aspects effectively we tried to put programs like these pictures.

Conecpt model Topic of the model 2 Cocept model #2 After we thought about void spaces, we tried to focuse more detail on the atmosphere in our project. Because if we also can control what people feel, the effect of slow city will be better. Forexample, in this picture, people can see the restaurant which is cooking using organic ingredients from this slow city. Also when people walk besides spa, they can feel moisture of spa.

DIAGRAM ABOUT

CONNECTION

FROM CITY TO MOUNTAIN In our slow city project, fast means Seoul city and slow is representative of Nam mountain. This diagram shows how these two different things change in our project with atmosphere.

DIAGRAM ABOUT

SEQUENCE

FROM FAST TO SLOW We tried to organize some programs with time use. Forexample, pink is for typical retails. Because people just take short time to buy readymade goods, pink is fast program. Also in green shower, people can have time whenever they want. Therefore green is representative of slow.

Initial Section FEEL THE ATMOSPHERE OF PROGRAM Not only just use the program also people can feel the atmosphere of the program in this slow city. This kind of experience will make people more active to be slow and enjoy slow.

Initial Plan EXPERIENCE TO BE SLOW Because we organized programs from fast to slow depending on the using time, people can enjoy their slow time in a slow movement of this mixed-use building.

Initial

Axonometric ATMOSPHERE CHANGING BY PROGRAMS

on the 1st floor that fast and slow programs mixed together, people just start to be slow. However, on the 2nd floor, people are slower because people feel changing atmosphere.

Mass model RELATIONSHIP WITH MOUNTAIN In our project, the most green program which is the last space of our organization is the mountain. people can enjoy their slow time in a nature spaces.
