IDENTITY

SELF IDENTITY

Alternative DESIGNER

ED1556

A unique individual who ventures in the conceptual world seeking new and innovative ideas. Plato describes an idea as “an archetype of which a corresponding being in phenomenal reality is an imperfect replica.”

Fun Fact HEBAH in Arabic means: “A Gift from God”

1

HEBAH HEBAH Logo Design:

My Identity logo represents a personal design style; structured and elegant. Inspired by the two “H”s in my name combined with my love for architecture the logo conveys my love for design and creativity.

My Philosophy:

Research leads to strong concepts. Alternative design is born when concept meets excellent execution.

TYPOGRAPHY

TYPEFACE DESIGN

Golden Typeface

Inspiration: Roman Alphabet

Inspired by the Roman letters and the geometry used in creating them. I was able to study the geometry that created each Capital letter in the Roman Alphabet and implement

the golden ratio to each letter to create a lowercase alphabet. As a result Golden was born. Golden is a delicate serif that is excellent for making a statement on any design project.

TYPOGRAPHIC PORTRAIT

Typeface Portrait

Inspiration: Double Exposure

Inspired by Dan Mountford double exposure photography technique. This portrait was developed into two final posters using line art, image manipulation, and typography. Created from the places I’ve been, stories I’ve written, and novels I loved.

“OR” SYMBOL DESIGN

Ianvs (e-an-z)

Inspiration: Evolution of Type

The Latin language is full of vocabulary that could represent the word “Or”. The one that best fit the definition of “Or” and allowed the speaker to make a choice between multiple options was the Latin word for “An.” Tracing the Roman alphabet back to the Egyptian time period I was able to study the shape evolution of the two letters “A” and “N.” The most intriguing shapes I found were from the Phoenician time period.

SMOOTHIE KING RE-DESIGN

Caribbean Way

Inspiration: Transformation

The concept behind this piece was based on the idea of transformation. The feeling this drink stirred in the consumer was freshness and fulfilment. Those feelings were addressed in the design by making the fresh ingredients transform into the Caribbean Way Smoothie.

elq Didot was designed by Firmin Didot in 1784. The typeface is inspired by John Baskerville's experimentation with increasing stroke contrast and a more condensed armature. It is classified as a modern typeface.

er

Baskerville was deigned by John Baskerville in 1754. It is described as a transitional typeface, which falls between traditional and modern styles. The typeface wasn’t popular during Baskerville’s lifetime but after his death it found it’s way to the French where it slowly gained popularity. In 1917 it found it’s way to Harvard University Press where its journey to success finally began.

Unlike Baskerville, Didot has been successful for the past two hundred years. Its most successful use has been in the redesign of Harper’s Bazzar logo in 1991.

Many designers use Baskerville in the advertisement industry. This typeface portrays seriousness and authenticity. It is used in the entertainment industry in the logo of the movie American Gangster and the logo of Kate Spade New York.

The concept behind this booklet was inspired by the anatomy of letters and how they are dissected into pieces. Taking the dissection

Baskerville has a rounder counter and a lower contrast between thick and thin in the stroke. Didot has a spur and a short serif, while Baskerville has no spur and a longer serif. Finally Baskerville has a bracket between the stem and the serif. Didots stem goes straight into a serif.

G

Baskerville shrinks in size and it’s counter stretches and becomes more oval.

Literally then using colour blocking and layering to separate the sections, the layout was developed. The Colour palette was inspired by the fashion colours of fall 2013. After learning the difference between the anatomy of both, Baskerville and Didot became my favourite typefaces.

Baskerville’s best use is in print due to it’s legibility and refined design. It can stand on it’s own in a fully typographical design.

Didot’s italic is designed to be used at large sizes. The hairline serifs have also been designed to accomadate it’s commercial use. Didot was first ristricted to metal type.

Baskervilles design speaks elegance since it’s creator experimented in different inks and papers finally acheiving a darker ink and a brighter paper. The contrast of the two complemented the typeface beautifully.

Travel

Inspiration: Europe

I am fortunate to travel back and forth between North America and Europe. On my travels I try to explore and document as many inspirational elements as possible. My background in architectural studies has always been a factor in my love for design. I was fortunate to that my connect flight back to the U.S. had a seven hour stop in Paris. Since I had never been to Paris, I rented a taxi and briefly visited all the hot spots. Basilica of the Sacré Cœur was my favourite stop. 13

The goal was to highlight their Commercial and Public Building projects, Housing & Villa

Compounds, and Residential Cities to acquire new customers. After learning about the companies goals and doing some research I was Inspired by the projects and their plans, I was able to create a fourty-two page portfolio that exceeded both companies expectations. 17
