• Was originally a industrial gateway in Vancouver • After WW2 most factories were abandoned • Since 1970s the industrial heritage has been renewed • Ron Basford started to build a cultural centre by 1980

• Today Granville Island is home of many theatre and art companies • Location of one of the biggest public markets in Vancouver. • Hosts festivals, artists, vendors and musicians • Has parks and shops for children • Recieves 10 million of visits every year, considered a major tourism destination • Access by foot, bike, car, bus and seabus

Information Center Facts: 1• There are only 2 booths for the whole island 2• More than 300 questions are asked everyday by couples and families. 3• Most of the information about the island are given in mini-books or hand outs (waste problem) 4• Atendee admits lack of proper signage and that most are shop signs 5• A lot of questions are also asked for shop owners by the public
