Heathfield welcomes new colleagues

Our Open Day and Evening are on Tuesday 27th September. You will be able to visit the school in action and in the evening to talk with teachers. During September year 6 parents may visit Heathfield for a tour of the school with student guides at any time. If you would like to arrange a visit, please phone Kirsty Hackett. Most of our partner primary and junior schools are happy to release pupils to come on a visit with parents.

Thousands of people around the world have had the honour of carrying the Olympic Flame in past Games. For the 2012 Olympics 8,000 inspirational people from around the UK will carry the Olympic Flame as it journeys across the UK. Nominated by someone they know, it will be their moment to shine, inspiring millions of people watching in their community, in the UK and worldwide. Heathfield High School staff and students put forward six nominated students in June who we believed should get their moment to shine. These students are Amber Wainwright, Bradie Perkins, Gemma Broomfield, Liam Tillin, Chloe Sparrow and Libbie Leach. There has now been created a shortlist of 28,000 potential Torchbearers from all nominations that came through the London 2012 'Moment to shine' campaign. All six of the nominated students from Heathfield have been put through to this shortlist. The next step is that the nominees who accept their nomination by 16 September 2011 will be put forward
to one of 12 judging panels around the UK. The stories will remain anonymous as the panels select the 2,012 most inspiring people to be one of the 8,000 Torchbearers needed in total for the Olympic Torch Relay. The nominees will have around a one in 14 chance of being a Torchbearer. Successful nominees will be contacted with a conditional offer In December 2011, with Torchbearer places confirmed in February 2012. The Olympic Flame will arrive from Greece on 18 May 2012. Details of where it will arrive in the UK are still being finalised. The Torch Relay will begin at Land’s End on 19 May 2012. It will travel over 8,000 miles in 70 days. The final Torchbearer will carry the Flame into the Olympic Stadium during the Opening Ceremony on 27 July 2012. The cauldron will be lit, and Games of the XXX Olympiad will be officially open. We wish all the nominated students the best of luck and hope to see at least one and hopefully all of them carrying the flame next year.
