Book in with three authors Ross Watkins

One Photo is a picture book about love, loss and legacy – with a heartwarming ending. Told from the perspective of a boy whose father is suddenly acting strangely, the story explores the impact early onset Alzheimer’s can have on family, as well as creating a legacy through photography. One Photo, written by Ross Watkins and illustrated by Liz Anelli, aims to create a way for children and parents to talk about the confusion often surrounding Alzheimer’s, but also to celebrate the tenderness and small surprises of such difficult times. Ross will share his influences in writing One Photo at Rosetta Books on September 21, at 5.30pm for 6pm start. $10 entry, includes wine and nibbles.

Les Parisiennes by Anne Sebba What did it feel like to be a woman living in Paris from 1939 to 1949? These were years of fear, power, aggression, courage, deprivation and secrets until, finally, renewal and retribution. Even in the darkest moments of Occupation, glamour was ever present. French women wore lipstick. Why? Sabba’s fascinating cast includes both native Parisian women and those living in Paris temporarily: American women and Nazi wives, spies, mothers, mistresses, and fashion and jewellery designers. Some, like the heiress Béatrice Camondo or novelist Irène Némirovsky, converted to Catholicism; others like lesbian racing driver Violette Morris embraced the Nazi philosophy; only a handful, like Coco Chanel, retreated to the Ritz with a German lover. In enthralling detail Sebba explores the aftershock of the Second World War. Although politics lies at its heart, Les Parisiennes is the first in-depth account of the everyday lives of women and young girls in this most feminine of cities.

To the Bright Edge of the World

Here Comes the Postman

by Ewoyn Ivey

by Marianne Dubuc

Part intrepid adventure, part deeply affecting romance, this firstclass novel is, at its heart, a love letter to the 'vast and cold beauty' of the last frontier, Alaska. In the winter of 1885, Lieutenant Colonel Allen Forrester sets out with his men on an expedition into the newly acquired territory of Alaska. Their objective: to travel up the ferocious Wolverine River, mapping the interior and gathering information on the region’s potentially dangerous native tribes. With a young and newly pregnant wife at home, Forrester is anxious to complete the journey with all possible speed and return to her. But once the crew passes beyond the edge of the known world, there’s no telling what awaits them. A stunning and intriguing novel combining the epic adventurous sweep of Alaska with minutely beautifully observed details - the reader finishes it wiser and richer.

“Here Comes the Postman” is latest work from awardwinning author and illustrator, Marianne Dubuc. Have you ever taken a peek inside a rabbit’s toilet or entered the house of a crocodile? Join Mr Postmouse on his daily rounds and visit the extraordinary homes of Mr Bear, Senor Snake, Madam Dung Fly, The Penguins and many other animals.
