But those therapies are exactly what these special kids need, as Luis Unda discovered. Unda’s son, Fernando, experienced seizures and a speech delay early on. He was later diagnosed with autism at age 12. Fernando exhibited difficult behaviors, and the staff at Achievement Academy helped Luis and his wife Griselle to understand how to best handle them. Fernando, now 23, is living in a group home and participating in a life skills and job skills program. Luis, past board president for Achievement Academy, and Griselle, who works in an administrative role at the school, credit the early intervention Fernando received as being crucial to his current success.
