The United States military marked a historic milestone on September 1st, 2010 as it made transition from Operation Iraqi Freedom to Operation New Dawn. This transition signified a formal end to U.S. military combat operations and reaffirmed the U.S. military’s commitment to the Iraqi Security Forces, government and to the people of Iraq. Staff Sergeant Caldwell, John and his unit played a great role in making history as they served in Key Leadership Engagement Security positions during Operation New Dawn. The photo displays great pride as Staff Sergeant Caldwell was awarded by a Lieutenant General for his outstanding service during two deployments to Iraq in 2003 and 2011. The award was presented at The Babylon Conference Center, Forward Operating Base Union III, Baghdad Iraq.

MLO along with other area law enforcement agencies arrived at Bush Intercontinental Airport on May 17th, 2013 to welcome some 300 wounded warriors arriving for "Warrior Weekend" in the Houston area. It was with honor and great pleasure to welcome the Heroes home and share job opportunities offered by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. HCSO also participated as an escort of the wounded veterans assuring their safety as they reached their final destination.

SERVING OUR MILITARY EMPLOYEES AND THEIR FAMILIES

MLO conducted a Diaper Mission, during the month of May and June to collect bags of diapers and baby wipes in efforts to assist the Shelby family with the birth of their first child. SGT McGowen, Jeffery with the HCSO Motor Assistance Program joined us with a new car seat and important instructions that will help keep their child safe.

“A THANK YOU NOTE”

We wanted to thank everyone for the generous donations of diapers and wet wipes. In addition, a special thank you to Sergeant Jeffery McGowen (Motor Assistance Program) who spent the time and effort in teaching “Daddy” how to install car seats in both of our vehicles. This was an invaluable lesson that was greatly appreciated by both of us. Finally, thank you to the Military Liaison Office, namely Captain John Martin and Officer Ruth Recio-Jefferson, who took the time to drop off the donations and visit with us. Few words can describe how much this event meant to us. John Spencer Shelby was born June 17, 2013 at 11:32 a.m. The big boy weighed in at 9lbs 14oz and was 21 inches long. Everyone is well and “Daddy” is busy and as proud as can be. Senior Airman of the Air National Guard HCSO Detention Officer Shelby, Edward & Family
