Patient History


Patient is a 57 year old male with type II diabetes mellitus with peripheral neuropathy, a chronic left Charcot foot deformity, and a heavy tobacco history. The patient presented with an 8 week old left plantar foot ulcer that had been treated with local wound care and offloading in a CAM walker. On initial presentation, wound extended down to plantar fascia.

Date: 9/17/09 Initial Visit Wound Size: 2.5 x 2 x 1 cm

Wound Treatment & Outcome The wound was treated with debridements, total contact casting, and 4 applications of Dermagraft. The patient stopped smoking after his 2nd visit to the wound care center.

He completed a three year residency at Mercy Medical Center and the University of Maryland School of Medicine, each in Baltimore. This included a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
