Aquinas College Asbestos Management Procedure PURPOSE The purpose of this procedure is to provide information to any person who may be engaging in activities that could result in disturbance of asbestos containing material within the College. This procedure applies to all staff and contractors conducting work with or in proximity to asbestos material as outlined in the Aquinas College Asbestos Register & Management Plan (ARMP). Note: All work activities that could result in disturbance of asbestos containing material within the College is to be carried out in accordance with the:

Before commencing any work activity on-site all contractors are required to sign-in to register their attendance at reception, in the main Administration building.
PROCEDURE 1. Where a worker (staff or contractor) is undertaking work in a location, or in close proximity to an area, where asbestos containing material is known or suspected to be they are required to review the Aquinas College Asbestos Register & Management Plan (ARMP) 2. They are to given a copy of the Asbestos Management Plan’s emergency response diagram (page 17) 3. Each worker (staff or contractor) is to complete the ‘Acknowledgement Form' to indicate they have read and understand information contained in the ARMP 4. If the work activity does not interfere with or disturb any asbestos containing material, normal work guidelines should be followed 5. If the work activity will, or has the potential to, interfere with or disturb asbestos containing material, the following procedures apply: a) The Workplace Controller is consulted about the planned work b) All non-essential people should vacate the area until the area until the required work and clean-up activities have been completed c) A job safety analysis or asbestos removal plan is completed and provided to the workplace controller or safety officer d) All workers within the designated area are to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment

to emergency response guidelines Where asbestos is to be removed, a licensed asbestos removalist must undertake the removal of any asbestos containing material The designated area should be isolated and appropriate signage displayed to prevent unauthorised people for entering the area while the work activity is being undertaken All asbestos containing material must be suitably enclosed or sealed as per the NOHSC 2002 (2005) Code of Practice for the Safe Removal of Asbestos All asbestos containing material must be removed from the College in a suitable container or vehicle, as per the NOHSC 2002 (2005) Code of Practice for the Safe Removal of Asbestos No removed asbestos containing material is to remain onsite at the end of the work activities The licensed asbestos removalist shall advise the Workplace Controller or the designated person when the work activities relating to the removal of asbestos containing material has been completed The licensed asbestos removalist shall arrange for written confirmation to be provided to the College of the removal of asbestos, including: Specifying what asbestos containing material was removed Specifying whether any asbestos containing material remains The date it was removed The date the material was disposed The location of disposal A copy of the disposal receipt, if available The Workplace Controller or designated person shall undertake an inspection of the area prior to allowing normal work activities to resume in that location
