TACTILE WATCH Tactime is an analogue watch that can either be read or touched to tell the time. After researching watches designed for the blind and partially sighted which often use a traditional watch face with an internal speaker, I aimed to create a watch that was inclusive in design. Using two seprately rotating plates with hour and minute hands, the user can feel the coordinating nodules to read the time to a good level of accuracy.

CHIRO BAT HOUSE The British Bat population is in decline, which is not helped by the stigma attached to them. However, bats are hugely benficial as biodiversity insicators, pest controllers of insects and their droppings are the most effective natural fertilizer known. The aim was to learn more about these animals and create an artificial habitat that catered to their needs, encouraging awareness and harnessing their ‘guano’ to be used as a fresh fertilizer.

7

Design process; research with bat groups and professional feedback of ideas through to development prototype testing. 9

Bats huddle together near the top to stay warm

Use the grips to climb up the wall of the house

Bats land on the bottom section

Guano is collected in the pods below

Guano pods can be removed from the house when full and left to brew in water. 13

The ‘tea’ can then be used as a fertilizer for plants. 14

LIONI POINTE SHOE LIONI is a new generation of pointe shoe, designed to be supportive and durable for demanding rehearsals and classes. Traditional pointe shoes are still made using crude materials such as paper and paste, which easily degrade leaving little support for dancer’s feet. LIONI has a custom fit PTE combined box and shank and UltrasuedeŽ upper to allow freedom of movement whilst giving essential support and more durability than traditional shoe.

Initial sketches focusing on the shape and fit of the upper and choice of materials to give better support to the arch of the foot. 17

The combined shank and box are made frominjection moulded TPE which will not break down unlike a traditional shoe. 19

HAND HELD BLENDER I conducted a ‘product autopsy’ on a hand held blender and drew the components in Rhino, rendering with VRay. Rebranded to fit in with Swatch products

FUTURE RETAIL Research focused design project during my three month internship within the UX Team at NCR Corporation. Focus was to gain insight into current shopping habits of 18-24 year olds and generate potential future shopping experiences, using applicable technologies, based on their habits. I carried out extensive primary research with focus groups, retailers, online surveys and through observation. Final outcomes were presented to the heads of research and design and taken forward to use as insight for future product ideas.

WORKSHOP SERIES Self initiated project focusing on designing and making practical objects using plywood that is considered industry ‘scrap’. ‘1 + 2’ are both furniture pieces, comprising of interlocking plywood legs and sheet plywood bodies, they are designed to be both practical and simple in design. 1 is a small container for smaller items such as jewellery. The mirrored copper lid slides on and off and can be stored at the back of the compartment to be used as a mirror. 2 is an open shelving unit, comprised of four seperate compartments.
