LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR March is an inspiring time of year for both our staff and our partnering restaurants. Over the last four years of this campaign, we have seen an increasing amount of community members that are choosing to invest their dollars in a sustainable future for these precious islands. Localicious Hawaiʻi does just that by funding the Veggie U Hawaiʻi program. As one of our organization’s biggest educational offerings, Veggie U works directly with public and charter school teachers to introduce our keiki to where food comes from and the important role farmers play in our community. This program has made tremendous impacts on classrooms statewide, teaching students how a vegetable goes from seed to crop and introducing them to locally grown and raised products.

Localicious Hawaiʻi has also made great strides in recognizing restaurants across the state that choose to source local. Thanks to their yearlong stewardship, we are seeing the “buy local, eat local” trend transform into an incredible statewide movement. On behalf of our entire team at the Hawaiʻi Agricultural Foundation, mahalo nui loa for your continued support.

Denise Yamaguchi, Executive Director 1

31 DAYS. 6 ISLANDS. 173 RESTAURANTS. ABOUT LOCALICIOUS Localicious Hawai‘i aims to raise public awareness of restaurants that are active supporters of the state’s agricultural industry. Throughout the month of March, eateries statewide designate one or more menu items that incorporate locally grown, caught or raised products as “Localicious dishes.” For every dish sold, one dollar is donated to HAF’s Veggie U program, which gives fourth-grade teachers the tools they need to engage their students in interactive ag- and science-focused activities. Since the program’s launch in 2014, approximately 60 public schools and 170 classrooms statewide have received garden kits and structured curricula.
