GeneralInformation General Welcome to Kandersteg International Scout Centre, the World Scout Centre of WOSM. Founded in 1923, KISC is the realisation of Lord Baden-Powell’s dream of a Permanent MiniJamboree.

feelthemagic Come and be part of the Magic that is Kandersteg, the Permanent Mini-Jamboree Situated at 1,200 metres, some 65 km south of Bern, Kandersteg International Scout Centre is easily reached by road and rail. It provides an excellent base for exploring the Swiss Alps, for sightseeing excursions and for meeting lots of other Scouts and Guides from all over the world. Facilities include both indoor and outdoor accommodation for up to 1,500 people. KISC offers a wide variety of activities based on the three main Programme themes of International Friendship, Eco and High Adventure. These allow our guests to experience new activities with Scouts from other countries in a truly alpine and international environment. Around 12,000 Scouts and Guides visit the Centre each year from about 40 countries, creating a unique international atmosphere.

Our Staff come from all over the world and we use English as our working language. Correspondence is done through English, but while here you can beneďŹ t from the many languages available on Staff.

Accommodation & KISC Life Kandersteg International Scout Centre offers a variety of accommodation possibilities to fit all preferences.

Indoors The Chalet provides accommodation for 207 people in 32 rooms, with between 3 and 22 beds. The Old Chalet comprises mostly dorms, whilst the New Chalet is of a higher standard, with three single beds in each room. The Chalet provides several common rooms, central heating, modern sanitary facilities, souvenir shop, internet café, public telephone, coffee bar and a laundry. Kander-Lodge has 18 twin bedrooms with every two rooms sharing a bathroom, one room en-suite and a six-bed room – a total of 44 beds. Facilities include a kitchen and social area and a large meeting room, which makes it perfect for conferences and seminars.

1923 The Tower accommodates 57 people and is an ideal group building. It has showers, toilet facilities, a fully equipped kitchen, as well as a large day room with an open fire place and balcony which can easily be used as a dining hall or rearranged to host festive meals. The Sunneblick is a classic Swiss Chalet and provides ten bedrooms for up to 47 people on two floors. The building - with its kitchen, dining room, storage area, showers, toilets, washing rooms and a large outdoor area including a campfire circle - is perfect to host big groups.

Outdoors The Campsite accomodates up to 1,200 campers on more than 50 individual campsites. While still on your own site, you camp close to other international groups, giving you plenty of opportunities to interact and plan activities together. Wood for campfires and cooking, along with other campsite equipment is available from our Campsite Office. All sites have running water nearby and there are toilets and hot showers close at hand, which all groups help to look after. The Ueschinenhütte or Upper Hut is located at 1,890 m in the Ueschinen Valley and offers space for 30 people as well as a kitchen. It is the base for our climbing programme and can be booked by guests going on hikes. KISC can also arrange bookings in other alpine huts.

Activities The Programme we offer is based on our three themes of International Friendship, Eco and High Adventure. The available activities depend on which season you are staying with us. In Summer we offer a selection of weekly activities which include an International Campfire, Pioneering Competition, Light Trail, International Evening and much more. Furthermore various other activities such as Trails, Orienteering, Nature Workshops, Hiking, Rock Climbing, Crafts, Mountain Biking, Paragliding, River Rafting and Day Trips are available for booking. By participating in our activities Scouts can work towards the Centre’s International Friendship, Eco and High Adventure Awards. These awards are designed to bring together Scouts and Guides of all ages and nationalities while experiencing the alpine environment and realising the dream of International Friendship Lord Baden-Powell had in mind when he founded the Centre. Winter is a magical time in Kandersteg. We offer many snow activities such as sledding, snowshoeing, Igloo-building but also skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, and much more.

As a pre-packaged option it is possible to book Winter Weeks. These packages include accommodation, full board, ski passes and transport to local ski resorts, as well as KISC Ski and Activity Guides. Year Round No matter what time of the year you visit Kandersteg there are always activities available. The possibilities vary on when you visit and current weather conditions, so contact us for more information. Catering You can choose from several catering options when staying at KISC – from full board to only breakfast to packed lunch options. Additionally we can support you with self catering by providing kitchens, campsite cooking equipment and assist with food orders.

Booking and Conditions

Travelling to Kandersteg

Current prices for accommodation, catering and programme activities can be found on our website

Kandersteg is easily reachable by car or train, and international airports are only a few hours away. The Centre offers different ways of organising transfers, whether coming by train or plane. Please contact us for more information.

After receiving your booking request, we will make a provisional booking depending on availability. In order to confirm your booking, you will be asked to pay a booking fee which will be added to your final bill. Then you will receive further information about how to book Catering and Programme activities for your group. In case of cancellation or arriving with fewer participants, you will be charged an administrative fee.

Being a Scout Centre we give preference to Scouts and Guides to stay at KISC, especially in very busy weeks. But also non-Scouts and Guides should be able to experience this magical place and are very welcome. Ask us for availability! NonScout groups of over 30 people will also benefit from the Scout discount.
