You Don’t Always Need a Huge Budget… •
To curb costs, you can always add custom touches (decorative hardware, cabinet organizers) later. Focus on the basics to save money now.
Don’t change the layout. Keep appliances, sinks, and lights where they are to keep labor cost down. Save details f or later. Consider options carefully. Many of the fun accessories can significantly increase the overall cost. You can always add them later. Distinguish between needs, wants, and wishes. A need is a musthave (functioning refrigerator). A want would be nice to include (upgrading to stainless steel refrigerator). A wish might not be necessary (commercial-grade appliances). Choose af f ordable alternatives. For example, achieve the look of expensive built-in appliances by using a counter-depth refrigerator instead. Mix and m atch countertops. Use expensive materials on small, eyecatching areas, such as an island, and a lower-priced material on the rest.

Ask Kara 1. How can I get the cabinetry look I dream of within a budget I can afford?
“There are hundreds of quality kitchen and bath products available today with great price points” Kara
Semi-custom cabinets are a fantastic option when on a budget. For example, with our new semi-custom line, Talora, we are able to build your cabinetry at various price points while at the same time offering a wide selection of door styles and finishes. Talora offers ways to keep costs down but the ability to upgrade certain features to help create similar looks as full custom lines.
Another benefit of a semicustom line is that the lead time from order to delivery is normally half of that of custom cabinetry which is very helpful in getting your project completed quickly. Talora has a great website (taloracabinets.com). I love their door building tool which lets you easily create your unique door style, wood species and color.

2. W hat are other ways I can save money when remodeling? The number one recommendation I would give is to be flexible and open minded. There are hundreds of quality kitchen and bath products available today with great price points. The compromise is that they may not be the exact designer brand found in magazines but they can still have a great look and quality. Flexibility in the design will save you money too. If you love a more expensive tile, I recommend using it sparingly and use a less expensive tile in most of the room. You will end up with an expensive look for less!
