“As he looked at the woman’s pretty face, from out of

nowhere, the name Tess Wakefield entered his mind. No, it was impossible. Miss Wakefield’s last letter had just arrived. She couldn’t have made the trip so quickly. He focused on the mass of unruly hair, the small cupidshaped mouth, pouty even now as she lay limp as a rag doll. He studied the patrician features that were characteristically Rutherford: high cheekbones, wide-set eyes, straight nose, and a chin of iron determination.”

My Dearest Naomi Jerry Eicher’s many devoted fans will be enthralled by this endearing novel in letters based on Jerry’s letters to and from his future wife, Tina. When Eugene Mast leaves his Amish community in Worthington, Indiana, to teach in faraway Kalona, Iowa, he also must leave the love of his life, Naomi Miller. For the next nine months of the school term, Eugene and Naomi keep their romance alive through love letters from his heart to hers and from hers back to his. Eugene writes of his concern that in his absence Naomi may find the attractions of another suitor to her liking. In fact, it is unlike any other Bible you have ever read. In The Daily Bible, you will read the Scriptures in chronological order, just as the events they portray happened in history. Instead of reading portions of the Old Testament and New Testament at random, in The Daily Bible you will see the events unfold before you like an epic novel.” —Southern Gospetality News

None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled. “I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them byb the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified. JESUS PRAYS FOR BELIEVERS. “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. Betrayal and Arrest _______________________________

A

t the end of this parting discourse, there is little time remaining for solitude or reflection. The time of betrayal is near. Very soon now Judas will lead the officers of the chief priests to Jesus and betray him in the presence of the other apostles. So the stage is now set, and the arrest is soon to take place. As the hour of betrayal fast approaches, the record begins now with Jesus leading his disciples to an olive grove known as Gethsemane, on the Mount of Olives, just east of Jerusalem. As they arrive in the quiet garden, Jesus’ heart is clearly heavy with the prospect of the events soon to take place. Taking Peter, James, and John beyond the others, Jesus goes still further to a quiet place alone, where he agonizes in prayer with the Father. And his aloneness during this critical time is all the more reinforced when three times Jesus returns to the disciples only to find them asleep.

Jn When he had finished praying, Jesus left with TO GETHSEMANE. his disciples and crossed the Kidron Valley. On the other side there was a garden, and he and his disciples went into it. Mk They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply a

JESUS PRAYS IN AGONY. He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.a When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow.

Mt. 26:40-42 Mk. 14:37-39 Lk. 22:46

JESUS PRAYS A SECOND TIME. Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter. “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”

Mt. 26:43-46 Mk. 14:40-42

JESUS PRAYS A THIRD TIME. When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing. Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”

Jn Now Judas, who betrayed him, knew the JUDAS BETRAYS JESUS. place, because Jesus had often met there with his disciples. So Judas came to the garden, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and the Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons. Mk Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him and lead him away under guard.” Lk He approached Jesus to kiss him, but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” Mk Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Rabbi!” and kissed him.

Jn. 18:4-9

DISCIPLES’ SAFETY INSURED. Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to him, went out and asked them, “Who is it you want?” “Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “I am he,” Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.) When Jesus said, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground. Again he asked them, “Who is it you want?” “Jesus of Nazareth,” they said. Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. If you are looking for me, then let these men go.” This happened so that the words he had spoken would be fulfilled: “I have not lost one of those you gave me.”b

Lk When Jesus’ followers saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, should we strike with our swords?” Jn Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. God’s Unlikely Path to Success When many Christian readers think of the heroes of the Bible, they think about how “good” they were. They forget that: Rahab was a harlot. Jonah was a rebel. Moses was a murderer. Sarah was a doubter. Peter was an apostate. Esther was a diva. Samson was a player. Jacob was a deceiver. And yet these eight men and women are among the Bible’s greatest heroes. Dr. Tony Evans uses these prominent Bible characters to illustrate the truth that God delights in using imperfect people who have failed, sinned, or just plain blew it. These are men and women whose actions were not consistent with God’s character—and yet God met them and used them in the midst of their mess. Readers will be encouraged about their own walk with God as they come to understand that He has them, too, on a path to success.

31 Days to a Happy Husband What does a man need most from his wife? Arlene Pellicane, author of 31 Days to a Younger You, asked numerous husbands that question. Based on their answers, Pellicane identified five keys that will give wives a new appreciation and understanding of how to love and care for their mates. Pellicane found that husbands need to: be honored in their home, be attracted to their wife, have a fulfilling sex life, have a peaceful haven, and have fun with their wife. Along with identifying a husband’s needs, Pellicane provides practical instruction to motivate and equip wives to show their husbands the care and affection they long for. Every day a wife is either building her husband up or tearing him down. This book offers wives a 31-day, no holding back, life-changing building program for their marriages.

Helping Others Overcome Addictions Does Christianity have an answer for addiction? As longtime pastor Mike Quarles’s alcoholism worsened over eight years, churches and Christians referred him to treatment, 12-Step programs, therapy…nothing worked. Steve McVey, also a pastor, repeatedly dished out the same advice Mike received, with similarly poor results. God led them back to basic, addiction-breaking truths of His Word. The authors explain these for readers who want to help someone or who struggle themselves. Material on codependency is included, as is information on implementing recovery/support groups for those leaving addiction and starting to live in God’s glorious freedom. Steve McVey is the president of Grace Walk Ministries, a discipleship-training ministry based in the southeastern U.S. He has authored the bestselling Grace Walk (over 250,000 sold), Walking in the Will of God, and 52 Lies Heard in Church Every Sunday. The End Times in Chronological Order Bible prophecy expert Ron Rhodes offers an easy-to-understand yet detailed chronology and explanation of end-times events. The chapters are arranged around the major end-times themes: the rapture, the tribulation, the millennial kingdom, and the eternal state. Each chapter begins with a list of the specific events it covers, making this an extremely user-friendly chronological guide to end-times biblical prophecy. But Sallie looked perfectly serious.

Still Standing In some ways, every day is Monday. Mondays are the make-or-break days that lead to character development, achievement, and fulfillment. The Bible is replete with stories of people who faced their Mondays and provides principles to help us face our own. Still Standing looks at some of the greatest “weekday warriors” in history—men and women who not only engaged in the battle, but won it. Biblical examples include Joseph, Daniel, and Job, who illustrate how to respond when we get what we don’t deserve, to stand for what’s right when no one else does or will, and how to put unexplained problems and setbacks in proper perspective.

Exploring the Evidence for Creation In response to the growing number of Christians who attempt to wed evolutionary theories with the biblical account of creation, Henry Morris III ably demonstrates the two worldviews are entirely incompatible. Morris merges years of meticulous research alongside the latest findings of science to present powerful evidence that upholds the biblical account of the earth’s beginnings. In Exploring the Evidence for Creation, he answers crucial questions such as “Can we observe evolution happening today?” and “Can we believe in a Creator and still be true to science?” Readers will marvel as they discover the many ways that scientific research points, with stunning clarity, to a Creator and Designer whose glory is very much on display in the cosmos.

Dr. Henry Morris III holds a D.Min. degree from Luther Rice Seminary and MBA from Pepperdine University. A former college professor, business executive, and senior pastor, he is a popular speaker and has authored seven books. He is an executive vice president with Institute for Creation Research in Dallas, Texas.

Leading the Way Through Daniel Daniel lived as an exile in a hostile country, yet when he committed himself in faith to serve his limitless God, he achieved the impossible. How did Daniel maintain his bold witness for God in spite of bullying and intimidation? How did he prepare himself for the tests and temptations of life? Like Daniel, believers today live in a culture that is hostile to biblical values. It takes great courage and faith to live as followers of Christ in a post-Christian world characterized by moral depravity, injustice, idolatry, and more. Michael Youssef will enable readers to take the truths of the book of Daniel and apply them to the pressures, trials, and temptations they face in today’s culture.

101 Answers to Questions About the Book of Revelation Who are the 144,000 in Revelation 7:1-8? Are the trumpet judgments literal or symbolic (Revelation 8; 11)? What is the mark of the beast (Revelation 13:18)? Readers who have questions about the book of Revelation usually don’t want to wade through pages of commentary to find their answers. Prophecy expert Mark Hitchcock offers a helpful solution in this concise Q&A format. Questions are grouped in broad categories that focus on interpretation, background information, Jesus Christ, and the letters to the churches. A final category, “The Consummation,” is further divided into subparts that address the tribulation, the second coming, the millennium, and more.
