From the Head of School Dear Parents, We are excited about our coming school year and have already begun planning for the students that will enter our hallways in August. It is our honor to partner with you as we raise the next generation of Christian leaders.

Last year, we experienced a year full of blessing. We had our very first national merit finalist, our Boys’ Basketball team won the State Championship, and we celebrated the baptism of 6 students while they served in Haiti and the Dominican Republic on a mission trip during our Arise Week. And those are just a few highlights of all of the ways God has been at work on the campus of Hartfield Academy.

We also launched a large capital campaign, in the spring, called Undeniably Different. And due to the hard work or our volunteers and the contributions from our families, staff, leadership team, and our Board, we will begin to see the first phase of the renovation and expansion plans begin this summer. We are thrilled by the ways God continues to provide for these campus improvements and look forward to seeing our students enjoy these new spaces.

We are starting a new tradition this year, where each new school year we will choose a biblical theme to focus on. This year, we have chosen the theme "Establishing a Firm Foundation” taken from I Corinthians 3:11 which says "For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” Each year it is a joy to see how God grows and matures us as a school when we take time to seek Him. We are expectant for the things God will do in our school this year.

DROP OFF & PICK UP INFORMATION ELEMENTARY Elementary students may be dropped off at 7:15 am. Students should be walked to the door by a parent and may go to the cafeteria at either campus where they will be supervised by teachers until they are dismissed to their classrooms at 7:35 am. Starting at 7:35 am, students should only be dropped off at the designated carpool stop for their safety. At the East Campus, carpool runs from 7:35 am-7:50 am on both the K3/K4 and K5-2nd grade sides and will follow the carpool routine map. At the West Campus, carpool runs from 7:35 am-8:00 am where 3rd-5th grade students should be dropped off in the inner lane next to the school.

Each new family will be issued 2 carpool numbers, which will be used in dismissing students. K3/K4 half day carpool at the East Campus will run from 11:30 am- 11:45 am. Afternoon K3-2nd grade carpool at East campus will run from 2:20-2:35 pm. Afternoon 3rd-5th grade carpool at the West Campus will run from 2:40 pm- 2:55 pm.

Students remaining after 2:35 pm (K3-2nd) or 2:55 pm (3rd-5th) will be taken to the front office. Parents must come and check their student out before they can leave.

MIDDLE AND HIGH Hartfield is open to students at 7:15 am. Parents may not drop off students prior to 7:15 am. Middle and High School students arriving before 7:50 am are to go to the gym and remain until the first bell. Middle and High school students are released at 7:50 am to go to their lockers and report to their 1st period class.

Students are considered tardy at 8:01 am.

Middle & High school students can be picked up after the last bell rings at 3:05 pm. Students will be in the courtyard area and are responsible for making a connection with their parents. Carpool numbers will not be assigned to the parents of middle & high school students.

Middle & High school students remaining at school without supervision after 3:45 p.m. will be sent to the media center and a late fee of $25 will be charged.

This is not intended to be an after school program.

STUDENT PARKING All students who drive to school and park on campus must fill out the Student Parking Application each year. Please fill out and turn in to Mrs. Dean in the High School Office.

MEDICATION POLICY COMMUNICABLE DISEASES Students will not be accepted at school if they have any signs of illness, including fever, severe cold, vomiting, diarrhea, pink eye, etc. Students must be free from fever or vomiting for 24 hours without medicine before returning to school (48 hours if diagnosed with the flu). Should students get sick at school, parents will be notified immediately. In the case of head-lice, Hartfield strictly enforces a “no-nit” policy.

PRESCRIPTION/NON-PRESCRIPTION DRUGS Students may not take medication without the knowledge of the Principal or Head of School. All medication must be kept in the office. Students should never give other students medication (prescription or non-prescription).

Our staff is not medically trained. Students are not permitted to self-administer medication or treatment (with the exception of a breathing inhaler). If students have continuing medication or other medical needs, then parents should make arrangements for students to receive such medication or treatment outside of regular school hours. Parents may request that necessary medication or treatment be administered by a licensed physician, nurse, custodial parent or legal guardian at reasonable times during regular school hours at your own expense. Alternatively, if students require medication during school hours and parents are unable to arrange medical personnel, a custodial parent, or a legal guardian to administer the medication, they may request that the Hartfield office/administration administer medication by completing a Medication Administration Request and Consent Form.

Medication will not be dispensed without a completed Medication Administration Request and Consent Form. The only exceptions to the above policy are the use of epi pens in a life threatening situation and the use of medically prescribed asthma inhalers. Parents must sign a statement authorizing Hartfield personnel to administer the epi pen to their student and should supply the epi pen to Hartfield. All students are required to have a medical release agreement signed by the parent or legal guardian.

IMMUNIZATIONS All students are required to have on file, by the time school starts, a Mississippi Certificate of Compliance (Form 121) indicating that all immunizations are up to date. In addition, as of April 2012, the State Department of Health requires all 7th graders to have a Certificate of Compliance (Form 121) indicating a current TDAP vaccination on file by the time school starts. Form 121 is available from your physician.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT MOMS IN PRAYER Hartfield Moms are making a difference in the lives of their children and in our school by joining together monthly to pray. Every mom at Hartfield Academy is invited to join in this monthly meeting focused on praying for the salvation of the children at Hartfield, the school’s teachers and staff, specifically for families in hard places, and to offer encouragement and positive support. Campus Life SPIRITUAL LIFE

AWAKENING Awakening is our weekly gathering where our desire is to see God move and stir a spiritual awakening within our school. The name Awakening comes from Ephesians 5:14 which says, “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine in you.” We believe that God desires to awaken each of us to have a spiritual hunger and thirst for Him. Our weekly gathering is how we have created the environment for that very thing to happen.

Awakening can look different from week to week, but our normal structure is to have worship twice a month and hear a dynamic speaker teach us the truth of God’s word every week.

ARISE WEEK Arise Week is our mission’ emphasis week for our students. One of our core values at Hartfield is sevice. Arise Week takes place the days before Spring Break and every 9th-12th grade student serves either at a local ministry or travels internationally. A few of the places where Hartfield students have served in the past include: We Will Go Ministries, Camp Down Range, Mission First, and Eagle’s Nest international in Guatemala.

ACQUIRE GROUPS Acquire Breakout Groups are our discipleship focused large groups that meet once a month. We splt our male and female students during this time and each our lead in a time of teaching and equipping.

ACADEMIC QUIZ BOWL Our Quiz bowl team participates in competitions where two teams compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge including history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, sports, and popular culture.

CHICK-FIL-A LEADER ACADEMY Chick-fil-A Leader Academy is a national high school leadership program focused on impact through action. The world needs more leaders who impact their local communities, and we believe high school students are the answer! In partnership with Chick-fil-A, ADDO created Chick-fil-A Leader Academy to bring a fresh approach to leadership and empower young people to truly make a difference. ADDO (Latin for “inspire”) is an organization focused on service and leadership development. ADDO Founders Kevin Scott and Garrett Gravesen have spoken to and developed leaders on six continents from more than 100 countries. Chick-fil-A Leader Academy’s mission is to inspire students, transform schools and impact communities!

CHESS CLUB The purpose of this club is to study and play the game of chess and understand the history and culture of this game.

COOKING CLUB Hartfield offers a Cooking Club for both Middle School and High School. This club meets monthly to enjoy a love and instill an appreciation for the art of cooking.

FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHELETES FCA is a student-run Christian faith-based organization. Students and coaches meet to study God’s word and to impact the world for Jesus Christ through testimony, outreach programs, and community service.

HUNTING & FISHING The purpose of this club is to promote lifetime activities outdoors, such as hunting, fishing, camping, and other outdoor pursuits. Information includes hunter education, processing and cooking wild game, and outdoor safety.

INTERACT CLUB The interact club is a group of high school students that partner with the local Flowood Rotary Club. Each month, a local speaker visits to share about their career. The students also participate in a monthly service project.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY he purpose of this organization is to promote educational excellence. Students who meet eligibility requirements excel in the areas of academics, service, leadership, and character.

MEDICAL SCIENCE CLUB The purpose of this club is to provide students with insight into the various fields of medicine and the number of careers which are available in this area.

Various speakers will give students information about degree requirements, job duties and responsibilities, and general information concerning medical jobs.

MOCK TRIAL Mock Trial gives 9-12th grade students an inside perspective of the legal system.

Students play the roles of attorneys and witnesses to gain a greater understanding of the judicial system, competing against other high school teams. Members learn to improve communication skills, especially public speaking and advocacy.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT Student Government is a group of students, nominated by their peers, who represent their class and student body.

-Class Officers: Each class (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior) will have class officers: President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.

-Student Body Officers: The Student Body Representatives will have the same structure (President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary) and will represent the entire student body. Students in the junior and senior class will be able to run for a student body position.

CAREER AND COUNSELING

Hartfield Academy’s Counseling Department is committed to helping all of our students develop socially and academically, School counseling programs are collaborative efforts benefiting students, parents, teachers, administrators and the overall community. School counseling programs should be an integral part of students' daily educational environment, and school counselors should be partners in student achievement DIRECT STUDENT SERVICES Direct services are in-person interactions between school counselors and students and include the following: School Counseling Core Curriculum- This curriculum consists of structured lessons designed to help students attain the desired competencies and to provide all students with the knowledge, attitudes and skills appropriate for their developmental level. The school counseling core curriculum is delivered throughout the school’s overall curriculum and is systematically presented by school counselors in collaboration with other professional educators in 6th-12th classroom and group activities.

Individual Student Planning- School counselors coordinate ongoing systemic activities designed to assist students in establishing personal goals and developing future plans.

Responsive Services- Responsive services are activities designed to meet students’ immediate needs and concerns. Responsive services may include counseling in individual or small-group settings or crisis response.

Indirect Student Service- Indirect services are provided on behalf of students as a result of the school counselors’ interactions with others including referrals for additional assistance, consultation and collaboration with parents, teachers, other educators and community organizations.

SPECIAL EVENTS MEET YOUR TEACHER (K3-5TH)/ STUDENT OPEN HOUSE (6TH-12TH) Come meet your teacher, see your classroom, and prepare your child for heading back to school! This come and go event is a great way to get back into the swing of things and get all of the information you need to start the year off strong.

NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION (3rd-12th) This is an important event for new families. Orientation is a great time to learn, ask questions, and make sure you are ready for the start of school!

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT Have you ever wondered what your child’s day at school looks like? Back to School is a great opportunity for parents to see what their child does each day, talk with their teacher(s), and see what their child has and will be working on this school year.

MEET THE HAWKS We love our Hawks! Meet the Hawks is an exciting, pep rally where our student body, parents, and family join together to be introduced to all of our student athletes. It is a fun event you won’t want to miss!

HOMECOMING Join in on celebrating Hartfield during Homecoming Week! Students will have the chance to dress up, enjoy special snacks, attend a Friday night football game, and a Homecoming dance.

HART & SOUL AUCTION HOST, Hartfield’s Parent Association, puts together a silent auction each year as a fundraiser for the school. This special event makes a wonderful evening out for our patrons and allows the school to embark on special projects that enhance our school and the opportunities available to students.

HARTFIELD FAMILY CHRISTMAS This event is a special family event for all of our patrons. K3-5th grade performs Christmas songs, and we even want you to join in singing!

FATHER DAUGHTER DANCE Hosted by the Junior class, the Father Daughter dance, is a great time for fathers and daughters to spend time together.

After School & Summer Care HAWKS NEST Our after school program at Hartfield, Hawks Nest, provides a nurturing environment for your child with on-location care for all students enrolled in K3 Full Day through 8th Grade.

East Campus Hawks Nest (K3-2nd Grade) Children will be greeted each day from their classroom at 2:20. Your child will be provided with an after school snack, then supervised free play until checkout through the front office. Please Note: Our East Campus Hawks Nest does have limited spaces available.

West Campus Hawks Nest (3rd-8th Grade) Children are divided into age groups and have an assigned leader for each group.

Each day your child will be provided with an after school snack, a teacher-led homework study hall, followed by supervised free play until checkout through the front office.

Late Pick Up After care hours end at 6:00 p.m. each day for all students. After 6:00 p.m., a late fee will be assessed. The fee will be $15 for every 15 minutes the parent is late. All late fees will be billed through FACTS account and payable within 15 days. This is for emergencies and/or special circumstances beyond your control. Please do not take advantage of this service.

SUMMER NEST Summer Nest is Hartfield’s summer care program designed for Hartfield Academy students who have completed K3-5th grade for the 2016-2017 school year and are currently enrolled for the 2017-2018 school year.

Daily Activities Each day students in Summer Nest will participate in: Bible Time Music Art Projects Movies Story Time Theme Days Quiet Time Activities Free Play 1st-5th grade students will need to bring reading material for the reading time each day.

Food Parents will need to send a lunch and drink each day for their student. Snacks will be provided twice daily.

Uniforms Students are not required to wear school uniforms to Summer Nest.

Payment Schedule There is a $50 registration fee to enroll in Hawks Nest. This fee will be billed to you through FACTS and payable within 15 days of receipt of invoice.

The monthly rate is based on a 10-month billing cycle through FACTS, beginning August 1st-May 1st. There is no price decrease for months with holidays or for absences from school.

Athletics Dear Hawks, Hartfield offers students a wide range of sports activities that include: swimming, cheer, dance, golf, basketball, volleyball, football, tennis, softball, baseball, archery, cross country, track, and soccer. We believe that each sport is very important to the students and to the parents of the students that participate.

Because of this, we are committed to helping every sports team compete at the highest level, to reach their full potential, and to have fun.

Sports can be a powerful learning tool for students as they engage in training, competition, and teamwork.

With God’s help, we believe that our coaching staff can maximize this experience to help each student athlete in opportunities of leadership, perseverance through adversity, skill development, conditioning, and mental and physical disciplines. It is our goal to point each student toward a deeper personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It is this relationship that we hope to model and depend on as we lead our sports programs towards excellence and winning.

We are happy that you have chosen Hartfield! We hope that, if your child chooses to participle in sports, they will have a great experience that enhances their learning and opportunity to grow. Development Dear Friends, So much has happened at Hartfield in the past year! Last summer, the Board of Trustees approved Phase 1 of a Master Plan to expand and renovate the west campus of Hartfield. This spring, we launched Undeniably Different, Hartfield’s inaugural capital campaign to help fund the priorities of Phase 1. Your response to Undeniably Different has been astounding! To date, Hartfield patrons have generously pledged [insert amount] to the capital campaign… Thank You! Because of your prayerful, sacrificial pledge to our school, we will open the doors to our new high school building, theater and practice gym in August 2018.

We believe Hartfield Academy offers an educational experience that is undeniably different. On the playing field, our athletes learn about character and commitment, perseverance and team work. And daily, whether in the hallways or throughout the community, our teachers and administrators build up our students with biblical instruction, encouragement and prayer.
